Chapter 16: Cyclops and Titans

Chapter 16: Cyclops and Titans

Although we had to go slower than before (the griffins couldn't fly as fast due to the extra weight, and the soldiers weren't used to flying, although their increased stats helped them manage), after about two hours of flight, we saw from afar three women fighting against four cyclopes. We could tell they were all huge because the trees around them only reached their waists.

"Ale, the cyclopes seem to be zombies. They have grayish skin and gray eyes." "Good eyesight, another advantage of this way. Soldiers, we'll advance to support the giants." "Agreed."

We started flying quickly, and after five minutes at full speed, which felt eternal, we could see the situation more clearly. There were a lot of buses full of people, many of them overturned. It seemed there had been a fifth zombie cyclops that had been defeated. But the giantesses looked very injured.

A being can only have one race. Offspring will have similar but inferior powers.

The titan is a gigantic being. They appear the same as their original form but grow x meters, where x is the level of the titan.

For each level in this race, you gain 8 points in three stats: strength, speed, and dexterity.

Both the original and legendary forms obtain the following abilities:

One of the women was fighting two cyclopes while the other two handled one each. The one fighting two seemed the most injured.

"Ale, support the one fighting alone!"

I fired white fireballs at one of the cyclopes. Although it appeared they had no class and were undead, the first one managed to withstand six fireballs. The other noticed I had killed its companion and looked at me with its eye glowing intensely. It didn't do anything to me, so I kept firing fireballs at it. Angrily, the cyclops threw a bus at me, which I barely dodged. The giantess took the opportunity to land a blow that distracted it, and I managed to finish it off by launching more white flames.

Ale was having more trouble. He had managed to kill one of the cyclopes, but the remaining one was larger, had a horn on its forehead, and a red coating we identified as mana aura. It was a skill many martial classes had that increased toughness, and the white flames didn't affect it.

Fortunately, we were three titans and two phoenixes. Ale and I healed them with our white flames (the red ones barely seemed to affect the large cyclops) while the giantesses surrounded it and struck. They seemed very experienced in martial arts, looking impressive while fighting (and not just because they were naked—I suppose there's no clothing in their size). After what felt like hours but was only a few minutes, its mana aura depleted, and Ale and I managed to defeat it with the white flames.

After finishing the battle, the titans reverted to their human forms. The cores they dropped were the same size as the others we had seen, and one of the giantesses collected them. We quickly started healing the titans with the white flames, and a high-ranking soldier came with blankets and water.

"Thank you very much for saving us. Ladies, I didn't know there were elite-level individuals like you in the convoy." "Yes, we preferred to keep a low profile, thinking drawing attention could put us in danger. We have a legendary race and don't know if we would be feared or hunted for it." "Why would we hunt such capable fighters?" Ale said excitedly, "Why don't you switch back to titan form? You fought incredibly well." "How do you know we are titans and not giants or something else?"

I quickly intervened with a lie.

"We believe the meteorites with races fell in areas associated with legends. For example, in India, they fell on nagas, while in southern Greece, lamias appeared. Titans are huge beings famous in Greek mythology, which is why Ale guessed that. And I suppose you're not in the giant form to avoid attracting other monsters." "Yes, and that's a good assumption. By the way, we are indeed titans."

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

While I thought Ale had said it because both he and I could see others' races thanks to Ale's class, a new red message appeared.

Remember that races cannot be changed, but an unawakened human can acquire a legendary race if they absorb a core from a being that was legendary. This is because legendary meteorites are the only ones that cannot be recharged. Good luck in the games, try to reach the next stage.

A shiver ran down my spine. First, there were still a couple of hours before the time the meteorites had fallen, so it didn't seem like there was always a message at the same time. But the worst part was that it fit too well with our conversation. We knew people worldwide received the message simultaneously because the Internet still worked. Were the messages activated when we asked about certain conditions? Did they only work for people with legendary classes?

As soon as the message arrived, the high-ranking officers received calls while the rest continued organizing the survivors. One of the giantesses, the one who had been fighting the two cyclopes simultaneously, spoke worriedly.

"I don't like this message. It means people will hunt the legendary races. Many will try to take our races, arguing that we are not strong or loyal enough. By the way, my name is Anna, and I'm from Italy." "I'm Lisa." "And I'm Ven. Lisa and I are from Italy and had come to visit Anna. We were in a museum in Athens when the meteorites fell. And you?"

"I'm Ale, the brother of the leader of the city of Fen." "And I'm Juan. We're Spaniards and were in Thessaloniki when the meteorites fell. As Ale said, the phoenixes have formed a settlement with nymphs, arachnes, sirens, harpies, sphinxes, griffins, and fauns. In that settlement, you can be assured of your protection, as most already have races, and although it's not as numerous as the human faction, it is very well defended. Also, being a new settlement, there's much less politics and high-ranking officials. We'll leave you to think about it while we heal the rest. By the way, we have more abilities besides the white flame that can ensure your survival."

During a break from healing the wounded, Ale whispered to me, "What do you think of the titans?" "She'll reach level 2 soon, you can copy her race and we'll gain a lot. Plus, they're strong fighters." "And they're very beautiful. Especially Anna, with her short red hair and defiant look. Lisa is gorgeous, like a painting model, while Ven looks like she was sculpted. Do you think I have a chance?" "No." "Huh? What kind of support is that?" "A realistic one."

When we finished healing the wounded and the survivors were organized, we left. We didn't have much energy left from healing the survivors, but we had enough to reach the human settlement thanks to the support of the griffins and soldiers, though the latter tried not to use their firearms too much because they attracted more zombies. Although the noise from the buses wasn't something I would call quiet.

Upon arriving at the settlement, the human leader greeted us.

"Welcome, my name is Hector, and I'm the leader of this settlement. You, ladies, must be our benefactors. You will be rewarded and treated like queens here."
