Chapter 11: Mother, Give me Your Shares!
Though she very much wanted to just go see Monia, Risa needed to get more steps ahead of her brother. Her father, Eric Granda, wasn’t one that is likely to give up his shares, so Risa went to visit her mother first.
And unbeknownst to Risa, Eric was secretly helping out Charter. The man never mentioned it, as he always sees everyone as just tools. This isn’t that surprising, though. Eric and Grace, Risa’s mother, live apart from each other. They’re actually legally divorced.
Through the divorce, he was able to take a huge amount of shares. But this easy and endless stream of revenue wasn’t enough for Eric. And Charter has promised to give him at least 50% of the shares once he takes it all over. Though, in the novel, Charter did not fulfill this promise, and Eric was left with nothing in return for helping out his own son.
Grace: “Risa? How rare of you to visit me… Is there something wrong?” She asked with a warm tone.
Risa: “There is nothing wrong, Mother. I just came here to show you our latest financial report.” She replied, taking some documents out of her bag.
Grace: “That so?…” She said, taking hold of the papers that her daughter handed to her.
After arriving at her mother’s estate, a maid saw her inside, where her mother was already resting. She was sitting on the couch, just drinking some tea. “With her in such a good mood, perhaps she will give me the shares with ease?” Risa thought with a hopeful tone.
Risa was actually nervous about meeting her mother, though. Just one of the many reasons why her parents separated… was due to him cheating on Grace. He even had a child with a Japanese woman, which is why their daughter has such an uncommon name for an American.

This was something kept secret from most of the world, including Risa herself. To date, only the ever loyal personal maid of Grace, Eric, and Grace herself, know of this. Of course, that wasn’t the reason given for the divorce. Regardless, Grace still treats Risa as her real daughter.
Risa: “How do they look, Mother?” She asked with a smile.
Grace: “These finances… are very impressive, Risa.” She praised. “This is more of profit increase than the highest that I made while I was CEO… I was correct to let Risa take over the family business!” She said with a happy tone in her mind.
Risa: “Yeah, even I was impressed by how good this quarter ended up being. That being said…” She said, not finishing her words.
Grace: “You didn’t just come here to win my praise, right? What do you need, dear daughter of mine?” She asked with a small laugh.
Risa: “Though I shouldn’t really be worried, Charter has started to make waves… To ensure my position, I would like your shares, Mom.” She finally expressed her reason for coming here.
Grace: “…I do not wish for my current way of life to be interrupted, Risa.” She replied with a stern tone.
Risa: “It won’t be at all, Mom. I will own your shares, but the dividends made from them will still be given to you. I won’t profit from this… I just need those shares to secure my position.” She explained.
Grace: “…” “Is this a good idea? Risa is a good businesswoman… but would she lie to her own mother? How funny that my biological son is the most likely to screw me over, while my not even blood-related daughter… I just believe without much evidence.” She thought with a wistful tone.
Risa: “…”
Grace: “Fine, I agree. Risa… I am putting my trust in you with this. Please don’t make me regret doing it.” She said with a serious tone.
Risa: “Thank you, Mother. And I assure you that I will keep my word.” She replied with a smile and in a happy tone.
The rest of that day was spent setting up the shares to be given to Risa. Or rather, some of the higher up maids did all the setup. The mother and daughter duo just happily chatted away about life. Risa, despite not knowing her much, already told Grace that she would be marrying Monia sometime soon. If Monia knew about this… she would surely be giddy to no end.
