“Say…”
The goddess herself didn’t seem to care much for the little girl's creepy nature (at least to those who didn’t know the truth of the Infinite Mother) as she presented a simple, kind smile to the girl.
She even lifted a finger up to poke the girl's forehead while giving off that usual “ohohoho~” laugh as if she were merely giving a light punishment to a funny but evidently rude little girl.
Although there was one person who saw more than what was under the facade of the perfect goddess of the seven virtues.
“Alice, don’t.”
Sadly there was no Alice to answer as Mother tilted her head to the side while squatting down - all in order to match her own eyes with Vivi’s.
Eyes that should remain closed for the safety of the little girl opened enough to let the truly sinister nature of the goddess seep into reality. A familiar ball of energy formed on the tip of her finger. At the same time the world itself seemed to grow dimmer under the power that was represented in the [Death Beam].
“How about I help you meet your older sister~?”
It was clear to everyone what would come next, that line being nothing short of a threat which even those who didn’t know the story understood from context alone, but there was something even worse.
At present nobody was nearly close enough to intercept the attack while the weight of the infinite fell upon their shoulders making such a timely intervention more unlikely. A wave of horror came from her own allies.
“DON’T DO IT!”
The often calm cat practically screamed; usually things were under her control and there were few things she couldn’t predict. However, what she didn’t expect was the depths of hatred within the little girl that was mere moments away from death.
Yet her actions shocked even the oni who usually spent their time ignoring the girl as a weakling not worthy of their attention.
Vivi calmly reached up with her little hand to hold the finger in place as she smiled towards the goddess as if the pressure was nothing to her.
“Do it bitch.”
No one could expect any words from a child in this situation nevertheless going ahead to goad the god into blowing her little head from her shoulders.
Even Mother herself couldn’t help raise her brow as she hesitated at that moment. Not due to fearing the consequences for purging a filthy oni from the world but due to the lack of fear that the girl showed.
This moment was enough for a sword to suddenly sail through the sky to almost remove the divine limb that was holding the attack; however Mother swiftly pivoted with all the grace of a ballroom dance.
Mother turned to look toward the offender (expecting to see the blonde hair girl having sent the attack since she obviously recognised the hilt) but what she saw instead was the green eyed oni meeting her gaze. A sight that only made her more annoyed even if she didn’t show it.
“What is with you filthy oni and meeting my eyes today~?”
Mind you… She didn’t care if another oni volunteered to be the first among the dead so shifted her finger to point toward the now angry blonde - clearly her sword being thrown by one sister to save the other was not part of her plan.
The green eyed one was too close to Shuten Doji while the sickly girl was as easy as merely wishing her dead so the goldilocks was clearly the best idea.
Plus it seemed that arrogant “perfect oni” held her family quite endearing so it should teach her a vital lesson in respect.
Sadly the blonde oni wasn’t as pathetically weak as the one with a foot already in the grave - even without a sword in her hand she managed to recreate it out of golden intent. Cleaving the death beam in half with such ease that Mother couldn’t help raise another brow.
Still, it wasn’t as if Mother could run out of energy so that single death beam became a [Death Barrage].
Rapidly thrusting her finger forward to cause beam after beam to fly towards the sword wielding girl yet she was somehow able to counter each beam no matter where the beam would have landed.
Ever since coming to the surface, other than with a certain little black cat then “that human”, Mother had never come up against someone she couldn’t just overpower with brute force.
It was something that confused her on a fundamental level. She certainly couldn’t understand how someone could stand up against her since she was starting to believe that the three headed primordial god just got lucky due to her not exactly being herself due to anger.
She wasn’t worried, however.
That oni eventually got sick of only defending as she suddenly charged forward only to unleash a crescent beam of energy towards her. At first it seemed like Mother couldn’t respond to the speed of the attack since she didn’t even react despite it coming directly towards her.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Initially the attack appeared to slice through her body which caused a smirk to appear on the golden haired oni.
“Remember this as the day where I, Vibrant, slayed a god like a farmer does vermin.”
Though that smile quickly faded away as reality around the falling body of the goddess began to crack like fractured glass. Confusion obviously overcame the oni as she saw the body become unrecognisable under the refraction created from the broken surface of reality. Eventually that space exploded…
Revealing the True God’s actual position.
“You didn’t think I was actually lowering myself to fight you, did you~?”
Mother was just calmly squatting behind Vibrant with her elbows resting on her knees - supporting her chin with both palms as she calmly smiled at the oni in front of her. In response she quickly jumped away while swinging her energy sword behind her. A foolish attempt as Mother merely repeated the same scene.
“Hahaha seems like the kids are getting along~!”
The leader of the oni didn’t seem to care much about the possible murder of his children which caused the gruff Violent girl to snort angrily at him. However, that just made him more intrigued. He didn’t even seem to care what happened to Vivi who almost had her brains blown out by the sociopathic goddess.
It was actually Cheshire who found herself looking out for the girl…
Or, rather, looking down at her as she tugged on the cat’s sleeves. Just the fact that she was able to move about freely without worry about a stray energy beam impacting her was shocking - her piercing eyes seemed to almost sparkle when she looked up at the little black cat.
That was a look that Cheshire simply wasn’t used to; some people were disgusted at her while others felt admiration at how far she came. Those were not the kind of emotions that the little oni girl was looking at her with. In fact it felt more like something she had never expected; a look of pure envy.
“How did you get so strong?”
This was a simple question that bewildered the cat, it seemed today was a very unusual day for her as there was usually little she couldn't predict, as nobody asked her that. At least not without an underlying disgust at her for “cheating” or something akin to that.
Afterall, how could a “weakling” like her come into power on the same level or above their own?
Meanwhile this oni - likely the one race who’d look down on her more than dragons already do - was looking at her in a way that showed no disgust. Not only noticing her strength but even desiring it for herself with a similar glimmer in her eyes that the cat knew too well. It was one she saw often in the mirror after all.
The look of a weakling trying to claw out every bit of power that they can.
“Suffering chehehe~.”
So she answered with the utmost honesty, causing that sickly little oni to tilt her head to the side as if trying to get a better look at the “suffering” that the cat told her about. It was a sight that helped renew the iconic smile that Cheshire had let slip due to the actions of her disciple against this very child. Something she may need to discuss later.
“Pain?”
“Sort of… You see there are two ways people react to suffering; either they buckle under it and let the world continue to disrespect them or it becomes an opportunity to become something greater! A gateway into innovations that previously could not be imagined by even the greatest of minds. Do you know what distinguishes me from other people with a similar level of mental acumen~?”
Vivi took the question obviously seriously (the sight of her cutely tapping her chin in thought caused the hearts of the bird & lion to silently melt as they watched) as she ran to every possible solution.
She had already come up with the most obvious one however Vivi quickly found herself thinking about the different variants of the answers. Rarely did a problem only have one solution so she found it quite interesting to come up with every possible solution.
Soon a sickly sweet smile came across her face as she began to finally realise that there still existed other people in the world around her.
Answering with a set of mental images that nobody desired to know due to the sadistic glimmer she held.
“Suffering~.”
“Indeed~ it is due to my life experiences that I am able to realise things that the older Dealmaker or Azure couldn’t due to living on easy mode with the powers and respect they’ve owned since birth~.”
“So pain brings innovation and innovation brings power with power bringing strength!”
A purple flame flashed in the girl's eyes as she moved her slender fist in front of her eyes; looking out to the pair who were fighting.
Her hand parted as she seemed to be cutely reaching out as if wanting to be on the battlefield that her sisters were on. That hand even reached further to hold both her father & the other sister who seemed to be the strongest of them all.
Yet, as her hand clenched closed to capture all those people, there was naught but a look of satisfaction tinged with a desire… A gluttonous desire.
