Chapter 33: Cat & the Mother of Monsters

There is a common saying that everyone was born for a reason.

It was quite the confounding opinion to hold when one is born into suffering however it can also serve as a form of support. An answer that’ll help explain away the horrors they experience. Something was certainly nice by imagining there was some grand divine plan that would leave everyone happy at the end.

As long as the poor stopped complaining about the rich, the oppressed stop fighting against their owners and the persecuted gave up everything they’ve known to accept whatever they’re told is true. Even if that truth is that they can only repent through being burned at the stake for actions they never committed because some old man was upset he couldn’t have his way. But that was all part of the plan so it was fine.

The newly birthed Infinite Mother - as a powerful ruling goddess to be - did indeed have a plan to help all the mortals across the realms. It was also one that required them to go through some suffering yet would help everyone live a better (more united) life. Although no plan can truly affect everyone in the same way as everyone else since there will always be those who benefit or gain detriment due to the actions of the generations that came before.

That wasn’t her problem, though. It was natural that societies have differing classes that can rarely be overcome with hard work but perhaps could with luck. Humans had a similar system to the beast kingdom so she expected them to return to that once they were free. It didn’t matter to her.

So she thought as she looked down on the mountain range with her signature kind smile.

She would create entire new races in order to cause chaos across the realms. Chaos was something that the little Alice quite liked, it felt very close to as if the only friend she could always rely on, so bringing it to everyone was making her feel a teeny bit giddy. All the potential was something that made her own infinite tremble in expectation for what could possibly be.

Crossing her arms behind her back, cloak billowing in the scarce air currents that were being directed up to the mountain peak, the kanji for kami was proudly displayed upon her back. Written in simple black brush strokes for the entire world to admire. She wasn’t on the tallest mountain in the world (quite far from it in fact) but being stood above the various shorter peaks made her feel like she was above all.

There was only one question she had for this middling mortal world.

“... Where do I start?”

The Mother of Life didn’t exactly have the opportunity to share her vital knowledge with her still immature successor - leaving the True God bewildered to even begin when generating new life. There were a few other natural born gods of life yet those still alive were likely already subjugated into servants of the united primordial gods or treated as “fertility goddess’” by this time. She couldn’t exactly approach the harems of her greatest enemies which meant she’d need to learn by herself.

“It can’t be too hard if others outside of Gaia managed to do it ohohoho~!”

Unconsciously not hiding her contempt for other divine beings.

Bringing her arms out in front of herself, those sleeves billowing as she began to unleash her power out to engulf more than just the mountains, seeking to worm her way into reality itself. A certain little black cat came up behind her with her head cutely tilted. Ears twitching as she obviously couldn’t help watching excitedly for the phenomenon few could ever witness personally.

“What are you do~in~?”

She looks like she’s about to part the sea.

That would actually be pretty easy for her.

Well so would destroying this entire planet so we’re setting our quips a little low in terms of power.

Well… This is the first planet of genesis, right?

||| Yup! |||

Probably tougher nut to crack than your average planet

“Casting an illusion on reality itself that I plan to boost with my infinite.”

Hearing that made Cheshire’s smile somewhat fade as the disappointment in her eyes could be understood by anyone.

“So… You’re not really making life?”

Mother simply just laughed at the words of the cat; it was refreshing for the little black kitten to be the one who said something stupid. Being who she was, this led to the often suppressed feeling of superiority growing to the point that her smile seemed a little more genuine. Clearly she was someone who heavily enjoyed the sound of her own voice.

Thought it was supposed to be “opposites attract”.

Nyahaha~!

“I decide which illusion is reality and which is fantasy.”

“...”

“...”

“...”

“...”

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“... Okay run that way by me again but this time pretend your ego isn’t the only thing bigger than your divinity pretty please~.”

Although the goddess’ brow visually trembled at the spurn from the small cat; Mother maintained her calm visage as she simply released a familiar “ohohoho” to seemingly wash away any ire she held. More accurately it did nothing to enfeeble her confidence. Instead she opened her eyes to let her power truly flow out, making Cheshire take a step back and guard her eyes from the pressure that the goddess didn’t even mean to release.

Such power was only a byproduct of her mere existence yet the cat - who had stood up to entities aeons older than this salamander - could feel her blood churn under the weight. She knew that this “little” girl had the potential to become the strongest entity to ever exist yet she was only starting that journey. Despite that, she still held such magnificent power.

Putting Azure dragon to shame.

But there was another thought straight after.

There was nobody else suitable to replace him (even if she knew the possible trouble of double dipping when it comes to responsibility) but Cheshire also wasn’t a fool. If those rats united to overcome him then they could do the same for Alice. That is why there was a need to remove at least enough power that the little dictator could grow beyond their means.

“What I do is quite simple but to make sure you understand… I’ll begin from the very beginning - specifically with the requirements for casting an illusion actually is. No matter how strong you are there needs to be a medium to cast the illusion. The most common choice is to use various rare materials like blood of strong beasts yet me & uncle figured out how to use sound.”

Cheshire obviously knew all this as she had already done plenty of research into that uncle; she did make note that Alice was lying to her face though. It wasn’t merely illusions she was talking about but formations in of themselves. An archaic art that followed strict laws hence fell under the serpent’s divinity while working well with Alice’s own infinite.

Formations could be used to accomplish just about anything but were restricted in the effort, resources & time taken to set them up.

As such they were often defensive thus a favourite for the black tortoises’ who had essentially never got involved with the outside world. The cat wasn’t even aware if Leviathan could get them to move despite them living in his grand deep territory. If even the ruler of the oceans couldn’t get them to move…

Either way the lizard duo had done something that made formations far more dangerous.

“Well I’ve done something even greater by using my own aura as the medium; since my infinite has the potential to be anything it quickly becomes the most efficient resource. Although each resource involved can carry special effects on the illusion, from making them last longer or slowly sap strength, with my infinite having quite the simple effect… Let me decide reality~.”

The smile on her face became far more menacing as roars that the noble young lady from the beast empire didn’t even recognise. Looking out revealed there to now be movement in the mountain range yet they were creatures she had never seen before. From bipedal creatures with menacingly huge clawed arms that see to be adorned in rock… To tiny ugly green people that she could tell stank.

Most important was the weird aura to naturally irritated from their presence - what was concerning was that it naturally marked where they lived as more of these strange entities were birthed from it.

And it expanded while even getting denser.

Allowing for more & stronger monsters to come into existence.

“I suppose it wasn’t just ego nyehehe…”

“Now to name them~!”

“Eh~ why go through all the effort to name something that will just get a name once they are out and causing untold destruction in the realms~?”

It seemed pointless to take the effort to name something that could totally just be left to their own devices; no reason not to use whatever name the mortals come up with. Cheshire wasn’t exactly one to put in more effort than she needed to when she wasn’t going to gain anything from it. Everything had a place which included her effort… That place was far away from something as boring as coming up with names.

She was a cat of science not literature!

Alice just let out a surprisingly innocent giggle as she looked down on all the monsters as they explored the whole new concept presented to them. One of existence. Being able to see this, with her very own eyes for once, seemed to spark a previously unknown joy into the true goddess.

“Naming gives control to one's life; without a name so many things seem impossible and that may be one reason why uncle Atlas… Judgement has given names special powers. For a god no matter how strong we are, no matter how strong we are, we lose a major part of our control which no amount of training can ever compensate for.

So I name them in hopes they become something great just like… A mother to their child.”
