Chapter 29: Cat's Objective Versus Subjective

Chapter 29: Cat's Objective Versus Subjective

For a moment Alice felt a cold wind travel the entire length of her spin (although she didn’t even find herself with the ability to shiver) as she was left with her focus completely on the empty space. A space where that unusual “human” had just left. Her senses told her that it was a human but when she opened her eyes a human was the right thing she would have called him if asked for his race name.

For some reason she judged that he was human but looking back at what she was actually seeing within her senses… It was more like looking at a moving corpse. He just didn’t have that icky qi that undead both needed and generated by adding more to their ranks or consuming the living.

Although there were plenty of powerful undead - created by the chaotic fighting that constantly littered the surface of the planet - there were certainly none like him. They all still had the undead qi that signified them as undead. That begged the question on why he felt so similar… Even if her feelings told her one thing her mind understood it couldn’t be.

Fortunately her confusion waned with experiencing a new feeling.

Alice was pissed.

Never had she been so filled with rage, no, she had never been treated so much like a second thought by anyone since her egg came into being. Yet a slightly unique human actually treated her like an idiot then used such disgraceful methods to literally put her into the ground? At this point her anger wasn’t just due to arrogance but quite understandable…

“THAT BASTARD!”

The dragonnes angrily slammed her foot onto the ground while the nearby waters grew choppier at a quickly increasing pace. Not only had he continuously disregarded her but then he ran away like a coward while also making it seem like he was letting her off. She didn’t know how to react.

So she reacted the same way every child who didn’t know how to express their emotions did; the all powerful goddess screamed incoherently while throwing her weight around at random.

Only problem was, unlike the weakness that children often had, Alice had enough power to reduce a continent into dust with ease. Something that Photon obviously realised. He also wasn’t too fond of the protective destruction catching up with those mortals that he had just worked hard to save.

Photon was tired and his arms ached from receiving the powerful blows of Navy yet he still rushed ahead as he saw the dragoness randomly punching at the surrounding remains of Mt.Shanta. Just as she whipped out her sword to swing behind, he received it, taking the blow upon his shield with unfaltering determination. Blinded by rage; Alice didn’t even stop there as she just reeled her sword in order to continue wildly slashing with no form or thought.

However it was now Photon who found himself to be unsuited - just like how Navy was not well equipped to deal with himself - to fight up against the Mother-to-be. It didn’t matter how high his defence was when his opponent could easily beat him in a war of attrition. Plus he already was well aware of the insane abilities this girl possessed.

There was no way for him to counter her.

“Where is that sister of mine when you need her!”

If he wasn’t a big cuddly boy it was likely that this was about the point where he’d begin to swear up a storm. Unfortunately he didn't even have that form of stress relief at the moment. Unable to risk creating a distance between him & the goddess in case her wild attacks ended up flying toward some innocent.

Although it wasn’t as if Cheshire didn’t want to jump in… Rather she met someone who she couldn’t just treat carelessly despite her plans.

Travelling back a few minutes and you’d see the troublemaking kitten… Just a few peaks away from the openfield where the trio were exchanging blows. Beside her was of course her loyal owl as well as her nervous little seriema who all looked down at the most threatening three they had seen.

“Do they know?”

“How could they know; he’s not exactly a figure that can be understood without being told directly… It is what he has judged chehehe~.”

Seeing that Navy had taken his retreat Cheshire thought it was about time to get down to business - she quite looked forward to teaching the little hatchling all about controlling her emotions. Maybe she wouldn’t have found herself kissing those earthworms if she took the chance to observe the situation before charging in with all the confidence of a raging bull. Usually not problematic, she often found herself with the power to back up her pride, yet Navy was not someone you ran up towards expecting to win.

Not even Cheshire herself.

“Welp time to-”

[Death Beam]

Seconds away from having her brains blown out; Cheshire pulled her head backwards causing her to lose only a few strands of hair as a concentrated beam of greenish-gold energy flashed by her face. It just barely missed and the cat knew that it wasn’t intentional either. If anything the power behind that beam was overkill in order to ensure she’d die… It was also a move she knew all too well thanks to Alice.

“Ohohoho~ so you could dodge that~.”

The tone of voice is far more sultry than “Mother”’s kind demeanour (or facade) which fit perfectly with their completely ruthless move. Turning her head to look at them Cheshire saw the familiar bronze humanoid serpent but their simplistic coat was cracked all over. Bellow silver shined.

“You look like shit Dealmaker~.”

Her gaze falling onto the raised finger that just sent the prior lazer toward her - she couldn’t help wondering how often that finger had been used. In comparison her avian companions didn’t take as kindly toward the sudden attack from the serpent. Athena summoned a stave which hummed with dominion over space while the smaller figure got prepared to stab a lizard if she needed to.

“What are you doing, snake?”

That owl was honestly confused as this was not the same heroic figure she remembered. When they last met the supposed “uncle” they were an idealist who wanted to use their divinity over medicine & convents to build a brighter world for the suppressed weak. Their power, logically speaking, seemed perfect to keep the strong in line… Yet now those kind serpentine eyes gleamed with something the owl recognised.

Hunger.

“Ara~ let me return a question… What did you do to them~?”

The little black just cutely tilted her head, those ears twitching, as she lifted her hands up in a shrug.

Her cane balanced perfectly in one of her palms.

“Now what could you be refer-”

“I see you wish to play these games, very well, I can play~!”

Those birds didn’t hesitate to jump into action - recognising a threat when they heard one - with expectation that this fight wouldn’t take too long. Sadly they misunderstood one thing… What it meant to have a level of intelligence which rivalled that of their own master.

Dealmaker realigned her finger to the casting owl, quickly sending a beam toward her, although the smaller bird quickly aligned her blade in an attempt to deflect the attack. Finding that the attack didn’t steal any of her momentum she brandished the knife to cut through the tall figure who just looked down on her mockingly. The reason became clear as her knife’s blade… No longer existed; having been pierced right through without being able to stop the beam for a second.

A long leg shot up to fly into Seriema’s chin, sending her up into the air, only for Dealmaker’s tail to fly out to coil around the little bird's neck. Adjusting her to take the powerful arcane bullet that flew from an Athena who could barely raise her injured arm thanks to the air of her other hand. That magical attack caused the magic circuits/meridians to fill with hectic energy that caused her to spasm.

The snake cared little about the crimson sparks nor coughing up blood despite their knowledge of medicine easily matching that of Cheshire. Using their tail to carelessly throw the little bird to the side with all the passion one would have when throwing the trash to the curb. Continuing to slowly walk forward.

Athena obviously wasn’t happy about this outcome so planned to continue yet it was Cheshire who raised her little paw to stop her.

“You two aren’t prepared to fight this slippery serpent in their hybrid form.”

“Oh~ and you are~?”

“Well I certainly stand a better chance against our shared enemies than a naive noodle like you chehehe~!”

“Then clearly you need to learn a little bit more about gods in order to know how far away your “cultivation” is from the real thing ohohoho~!”

“Chehehe~!”

“Ohohoho~!”

“Chehehe~!”

“Ohohoho~!”

One a midget feline and one a tall serpent; both staring at each other while laughing their own unique laughs.

At the same time both stopped laughing in favour of launching their own attack on the other; the serpent prefering to launch a sudden kick which met with the abyss-covered claws of Cheshire. Those claws of hers were gluttoness in their ability to eat away even Alice’s “shield” but the green aura that adorned the long legs of the snake still burned brightly. Cheshire was surprised for a moment however she quickly backed away as Dealmaker hopped up and sent their other leg in an attempt to take the cat's head.

Proving at last that she was superior to Alice still.

Dealmaker didn’t give up easily as they almost seemed to appear right in front of Cheshire after their last attack failed, sending their foot down in an axe kick, but Cheshire wasn’t an easy opponent. Sidestepping the kick with minimal motion while sending her cane to jab into the snake's gut. Clearly she lacked the range that her opponent boasted however she was anything if not a thinker.

Sadly she wasn’t the only one as - like a viper - Dealmaker was already back to her prior position with a sultry smile that showed off their extended fangs. Once again lifting their hands yet this time no beam came out as they flicked their wrists to bring a set of knives. Knives that promptly flew towards the cat.

Those knives almost appeared to make an inescapable net as they curved around at different actions and aimed for different places despite the seemingly simplistic movements of the god. Cheshire also held no expectations that she should simply “trade some damage” like she had against prior divines. She knew that she couldn’t treat this cunning foe like any of her other opponents.

Proven by the fact she recognised that snake-like movement… As being an adaptation of her own footwork that specialised on short bursts of incredible speed; if adapted to be more fitting for her foe.

Still she showed no fear, instead that iconic smile of hers flickered to life under her mask, as once again she made very similar motions that the little goddess below would no doubt recognise. Painting a symbol of balance in front of herself. Catching the blades that flew toward her only to throw them back to her opponent who just returned her smile with one of their own.

Lazily clicking their finger to cause a sound wave that effortlessly repelled the weapon and caused Cheshire’s insides to quake. Black blood leaked from under the mask under the worried scream of her little pet owl… She didn’t share the worry as she let out a laugh as she vanished from her place.

“Makes me wonder what you saw that made you lose your mind and develop… Greed~!”

Before her opponent managed to turn to look toward Cheshire (who appeared behind them) five black lines appeared across their cheek for moments before they vanished in a flicker of their energy. A frown appeared for a second only to be replaced with that snake-like grin… Rather fitting for a snake.

“I was wondering how you managed to force so many mortals to use my power to enslave themselves yet I must admit that you certainly have your tricks… Should I show you one of mine~?”

“And people call me crazy~!”

Obviously not being responsible for what the mad god was accusing her of - still the god was in denial so had their divine aura explode out to swallow the pair into a world of their own creation.

Standing with one foot directly in front of the other, leaning forward slightly, with their palms facing forward while resting at their waist. A divine light exuded from behind them to engulf the world in their glory along with a familiar clanging of metal that the cat recognised. That smile grew even wider.

“Welcome to my divine domain…[Aspect of the Forge of Stars - The Palace of Law]~!”
