Although she got everyone excited for what epic adventurer they were going to go on next… Things ended up not being nearly as exciting as they thought it would be.
Currently the little black cat & true god were standing atop one of the newly formed mountain tops as the people below busied themselves with their various tasks. The big beast himbo himself was cheerfully laughing as he easily carried about various things for the residents of the little mountain town. Everywhere he went you could feel the hope in the people.
Other places weren’t as fortunate.
“We have… Collected all of their people from the tunnels; at least what is left of them.”
The leader of the birds of prey graced the pair with her appearance as she phased into space using some spatial magic that none of them saw as very complex but anyone else wouldn’t understand. That usually merry cat graced her owl-companion with a nod. Not wishing to break the silence more than needed.
There were certainly a lot of people who were embracing one another in heartfelt reunions that could bring a tear to even the coldest of people. But not everyone can be so lucky else it wouldn’t be luck. Many children were left standing bewildered at the lifeless remains of their parents which had been collected.
Even more children were left with less or nothing at all; many parents were also left inconsolable over the loss of those they only wished to see reach a modicum of their potential. A potential that was cruelly cut short due to the greed of a massive power that they could do nothing to resist. Cheshire couldn’t help smiling gently when she saw the pained expressions since pain was something she understood.
To her pain was an old companion that was always reliable in how omnipresent it was in all facets of her surprisingly longer than expected life. There were likely a few forms of pain that she hadn’t personally come across but there were certainly many more that she had gone through. From loss to loss was the way her early life went and this coming war proved to only require an even greater cost - still she knew that life went on as the souls entered the cycle.
She would just need to make sure that, when they reincarnate, the realms they end up in end up being far better than before.
Mother was the opposite.
Looking down on all those people… She felt that their grieving was kind of a waste of time that would be better used growing into stronger people. It wasn’t just physical pain that she didn’t understand; through her life she had never felt pain for another nor did she experience it herself.
This wasn’t just due to her being a precious little princess hidden under the seas - though it certainly led to her not comprehending her lack of understanding - as it wasn’t as if no issues ever happened. There were undersea quakes that caused damage and there were even deep sea eruptions. She wasn’t completely sheltered from death yet she just didn’t get sadness as she saw it as a completely pointless emotion.
Why bother when it just wastes time that is better used for something else; their soul returned to the cycle so it would be more efficient to focus on not letting the same mistake recur again. Then again she always thought mortals were a little slow on the uptake. That is why, as the second Mother, she’d take it upon herself to take advantage of their silly feelings to help them improve themselves if she can’t get rid of those silly reactions.
Only time she’s ever cried was due to anger not sorrow.
“This is so silly ohohoho~.”
Cheshire peered as the not so little dragoness through the corner of her eyes. She wasn’t very shocked but she did raise a brow as if a tiny bit surprised that she would let her inner thoughts escape. Chalking that up to her inexperience - in other words - a weakness that would promptly disappear with the passing of time.
She always had a feeling that this goddess was a little aloof when it came to worldly matters. It was also important to note a very important differentiation - it was not that she couldn’t feel nor express her own emotions even if they were a little limited due to her condition. A mistake an idiot may make.
This was because she was not what people commonly referred to as a psychopath.
In other words… I’m not sure if she even saw her parents as parents; the person she always brags about is neither her mother or father. Instead it’s her precious uncle who lets her learn so much. Subconsciously she has actually ranked her relationships from a perspective of how they have benefitted her. Although it’s dumb to classify her as evil just because she doesn’t experience relationships in the same way as others, plus there is no real telling how she feels, her mind is just too different. Either Way it’s safe to say that she does have feelings of responsibility with how highly she places her role as Mother while also the way she reacted to the prior Mother’s death being a telling sign. The first thing she did when she was awake was lash out in anger while most children would be completely lost. Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site. Then again, it’s hard to say if she was really angry over the death of the big mommy herself or the fact that those assholes actually made her feel pain. That was probably the first time she had even felt any sort of physical based pain. Not even her parents realised she actually had scales that were just on a higher state of existence so chances were very high that she never received enough damage to actually pain her. She only focused on what she lost from the death of the prior Mother; lamenting what she failed to learn from her predecessor rather than the loss of the woman herself. If she can feel love is not something I can say for sure. But I am sure that she feels no empathy for the “precious mortals” she killed in her rampage for the sake of revenge. I purposefully put her on a route that would take her to view the direct consequences of her actions yet she didn’t even blink before proceeding to torment more people. Then there is the fact that I sent her to defeat someone who she directly had an effect on, hoping to see how she’d react, while also having the same enemy… Yet she mercilessly cut that girl down without so much as batting her eye. Safe to say that empathic rule is the last thing this Mother’s rule will bring. Because… We may just have a sociopathic goddess.> Instead of fear or concern the cat looked at “Mother” with intrigue. Being sociopathic wasn’t exactly the end all as some may present it as; it merely meant they were a little different in their thought process. The world had already been ruled by someone who believed in equality then by someone who only saw themselves and the people they cared about. Perhaps a sociopath was the exact kind of person that they needed in order to set them on the right track again? “Chehehe~.” “Hm~ is something funny?” That all powerful deity cutely tilted her head to look down on the cat who she gradually began to see more traces of him in. “Oh~ it’s nothing; I just got lost in my thoughts~!” Mother just nodded as she was aware the cat in front of her was lacking a few gears to have a fully functioning system. “I think it’s best to move them into the mountain range as it’ll make them harder to track; got any way to help protect them like, maybe, some kind of guardian beast~?” Of course, she didn’t actually need any suggestions, Cheshire was well aware that she wouldn’t always be around plus leading the mortal realm wasn’t even her job in the first place. Thus she decided to see what the future leader would be like. A little test to make sure she isn’t just putting in another useless bigot. “Oh~ well I did have this thought of creating a new race of creatures that is far more diverse than anything that has ever been seen before. Both based on what came prior but also a set of entities that will be able to endlessly evolve into newer & greater forms. With them constantly acting as a presence the mortals will have no choice except to grow in order to combat them~!” Happily clapping her hands together with a childish smile on her face (one filled with joy). Like she was a child happily showing off her school project to anyone that was willing to listen to her. Cheshire felt relief of the excitement the girl expressed over the continued potential for growth that humans had. Continuing on to talk about her thoughts on how she couldn’t rest on her laurels by presenting only one group of enemies while also being careful about not overwhelming them. “In this case they can act as a natural deterrent for anyone wanting to attack those cow-kin while also letting them grow through constant conflict with them. Over generations they will learn how to deal with powerful foes as they refine themselves to be greater hunters as they fight over resources. It won’t be immediate yet it’ll be far more effective at helping them than a simple barrier. People are naturally attracted to barriers as they may mistake it for a place with a lot of precious treasure and those kinds of greedy people… May see those mortals as a prize.” The little black cat could only nod her head toward the logic; it would be foolish to completely baby mortals as that would make them reliant. “Then go ahead and experiment a little; we have plenty of time~!” “Okay~!”
