CHAPTER 3 - EXPLOITING PAST TIES
Bunny is strolling leisurely strolling around the Citadel of Serabourg. This was also the place where Lance was knighted and Loki was destroyed, so she knew her way around. With her new body, she was tempted to become a dancer, but the experience with Loki told her to not make hasty decisions.
The first place she needed visit was the Bard guild. In Serabourg, information is centered around Darwyn the Composer. Darwyn had the gift to create songs which boost fame; When making a song for an adventurer who killed a bobcat, he would attach lyrics which contain lines like 'ferocious great feline of orange and black'.
Every adventurer wanted fame, that led to all noticeable events happening around the citadel, making their way to Darwyn. Since adventurers cluster there, the natives with troubles also requested Darwyn to help. Darwyn was the single most important NPC for normal questing in Citadel of Serabourg.
However, the reason Bunny wanted to meet Darwyn was different. Uncommon among bards, Darwyn didn't like strangers and acted rather cold towards them, however, when he accepted someone as a friend, he would be friendly and helpful. Lance was a good friend of Darwyn, added to Darwyn's personality, Bunny wanted to know if she could capitalize on Lance's influence.
“Greetings, Mr. Darwyn.” Bunny started
“Yes? Do I know you?” Darwyn replied raising one eye.
“Oh, this is our first meeting, but I have heard much about you from my brother Lance”
“Lance?” Darwyn started to closely examine Bunny's features.
“Ah! Knight Lance, you two do look similar” Darwyn finally replied “So, how may I help you?”
“Ummm... I am just visiting because my brother told me to pay you a visit when I am in Serabourg. He told me specifically to visit Mr. Darwyn because you are his benefactor and helped him in the past”
“Your brother is too polite, I was the one receiving help. I sometimes gather request from local natives and forward them to him, and he usually solve the request without wanting anything in return.”
“Yes, I have heard many stories from my brother, like the time where he killed a rampaging bear in the forest that is disrupting the woodcutters”
“Ah... that was one of them, he didn't even contact the guild and just went to slay the beast after I mention it. He is the most honorable person I have known”
In truth, Lance was farming honor points. When getting a quest from Darwyn to visit the forestry guild as a chain quest, he coxed Darwyn into giving him the details, then performing the quest without visiting the guild. The act was considered selfless to the NPCs. Although the monetary gain is lowered, Fame and Honor points were raised lots.
Bunny ended up chatting much about Lance with Darwyn,
“By the way, Bunny, do you play the harp too?” Darwyn asked.
“Ummm.... My brother only taught me two songs” Bunny replied nervously
“Hahaha... he ONLY knows two songs.” Darwyn guffawed.
Handing her a nice looking Harp, Bunny was forced to play. Without in-game skills to help her, it didn't turn out very well. However, it was good enough for Darwyn. After pointing out some aspects on using the instrument to Bunny.
*Ding
You have learned to use a Harp
You have learned the songs 'Courage' and 'Serenity'
New stat: Charisma
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“Keep the harp, its the least I can do to help you” Darwyn said
“Thank you” Bunny replied happily
A commotion suddenly started among the novice bard in the building.
“Did master Darwyn just give something away?”
“I had never seen Master Darwyn give anything away this whole month I spent here”
“That harp isn't cheap, it cost at least 20gold”
“Who is that girl? Is she some high-class wandering bard?”
“Isn't she still wearing her newbie outfit?”
Using the commotion as an excuse, Bunny bade farewell and disappear into the city. Understanding that she can use 'her Brother' to build up familiarity fast with the NPCs, she could go out of her way to accumulate skills not easily obtainable.
In RR, there are 4 ways to obtain skills:
1. Repeated actions.
By doing an action multiple times, a player will soon gain the skills.
Example: Hitting a scarecrow thousands of times with a sword would yield 'Sword Mastery'
-
2. Learning from objects, skill-books or simply quest rewards.
Self-explanatory
-
3. Learning it from a guild NPC or another Player.
If a person satisfied the requirements, he/she could visit any guild house or sufficiently skilled player to learn the skill.
Example: Anyone can visit any Tailor guild to learn 'Tailoring', as long as they fulfilled the basic requirement of having 'Handicraft skill' at Beginner Lv3 AND had the ability to sew a button.
-
4. Learning from a skilled NPC who likes you.
This is similar to the above, but there will be no stats or skills requirements.
Example: If a great chef taught someone cooking, the prerequisite of 'Handicraft skills' will be nulled
Author's Notes: Pt.4 is My guesswork on how Seoyong learned cooking without 'handicraft skills'
It is also reflected by how Weed learn 'Medical botany' simply asking for it, unlike blacksmith or fishing
Using the 4th method, Bunny readies herself to plunder knowledge from the unsuspecting
Playing Harp, Sing, Dance, Blacksmith, Tailor, Jewel, Cook,
Enchant, Artifice, Alchemy, Botany, Farm, Herd, Fish, Mine, Deforest
Garden, Build, Sculpt, Paint, Identify, Repair, Bandage, Offense mastery, Magic
As players without class could only get 10 skills, planning was required... decisions... decisions...
