It took over 4 days of talking for the Holy Crux Emperor Hiroyuki to convince the other members of the Crusade to engage in a ‘dishonorable’ night attack. The way he was able to get them to move was twofold, he first made the declaration that the moon reflected the light of the holy sun like a mirror, thus making moonlight as holy as sunlight. He then told them that the stars were just suns that were so far away that they could not be seen by the light of their sun and therefore we just the ‘little siblings’ of their sun that tried to illuminate the world at night with the little of their holy light that could reach the world. When he finally convinced them of these things, he sealed the deal by offering full pardons from the Almighty if they in fact did do something improper and the night battle was against the wishes of the Almighty, which it wasn’t because the Almighty told him to do it.
“These gullible idiots…” Hiroyuki thought. He was one of the hardcore believers in his homeland’s purity and supremacy over all others in terms of culture, technology and glory. He viewed these ‘western inspired nations’ as backwards and crude, following antiquated and idiotic ideals and sensibilities that were only holding them back.
“They so much like the gaijin, in that regard. If only there was a nation more akin to my glorious and supreme homeland that I could go to instead. My talents and powers are wasted on these imbecilic nobles and priests. Oh, well. As long as I pretend to tow the party line and don’t mess with the dominion of the Church I can do whatever I want and get away with it. In a way it is just like home…” (Hiroyuki)
When night had fallen, the armies of the Crusading nations formed up and moved out across the no-mans-land. They slowly inched closer and closer to the walls until they were merely a few tens of meters from them.
“This going too well. Just like these primitives to not post a reasonable night’s watch. They truly didn’t expect us to act like this…” Hiroyuki said aloud to the other leaders as they watched a projection of the night attack through a special spell that had been cast earlier.
Then, when the ladders were being prepared and lifted up towards the walls, the top of the walls lit up with a mix of glowing cyclopean eyes and glowing visors.
All hell broke loose.
The thunder of machine gun fire and artillery tore through the night like a storm while the lights of explosions and tracers illuminated the battlefield with erratic splotches of light. The spell that showed the projections was linked to the sight of the crusaders, and thus began to constantly jump from one perspective to the next as man after man was ripped apart by gunfire and explosions. Still, the crusaders couldn’t simply retreat now. They had gotten this far and going back at this point would be borderline treason and/or suicide.

They did not know if the fire coming from the wall was accurate enough to strike them as they ran in the night, but most of them didn’t want to risk it. And so, they climbed the ladders up the wall into a hail of death despite the body parts that flew past or onto them. With the number of ladders and soldiers that had been sent, it was inevitable that some of them would make it to the top. What greeted them when they reached the top of the wall, however, was not what they expected and certainly not what Hiroyuki expected.
The projection showed a golem with a single red photoreceptor that was a mix of black and crimson. It was built like it spared no expense for armor but was dancing around the top of the wall with a speed at least three times greater than the others who looked similar. It locked its eye on the poor soldier who was seeing this on behalf of the leaders who had stood up in their seats. Hiroyuki was the most speechless of them all.
“What the actual fuck is that?! And so kami-damned many of them too! What the actual flying kami-damn fuck?!” Is what he almost screamed but managed not to.
He decided to ‘assume direct control’ and remotely operate the soldier in question using one of his many abilities. Hiroyuki activated {Generalissimo’s Overwriting Command} and began to remotely operate the poor man, who now had at most a few hours to live due to the taxing and parasitic nature of the spell.
“I am the Emperor of the Holy Crux Empire, Hiroyuki Miyamoto! State your name and why you and your kind are here, foul and soulless automaton!”
A calm and proud voice came from the black and crimson Dom.
“You must be controlling that man from the camp, but I will give you the honor of knowing who slew your puppets. I am Char Aznable, the Red Comet and as for the lot of us, well, we have come here to laugh at you. If you think that a few measly soldiers and a stronger, remotely operated one will be enough to defeat us, you are sorely mistaken.”
It was then that a brilliant flash of light that came from the chest of the Dom blinded Hiroyuki’s puppet and shortly thereafter the connection was severed. Hiroyuki was forcefully ejected from his puppet, which made him experience something he had never felt before, even in his homeland. Pain; and not just any pain, the physical and psychological pain of being killed without being able to retaliate. As he fell into his seat he noticed that he felt a sharp pain in a cylindrical shape through his face and head.
He then realized he had a gushing nosebleed that was trickling down his face. Finally, the realization that even his power-boosted puppet, who would be easily a match for one of the Theocracy’s finest troops had been effectively curb-stomped in a single strike, two if you counted the bright flash as well. While his maids rushed to clean his face, he sat wide-eyed in disbelief, not even noticing that the perspective of the projection continued to rapidly and erratically shift from one part of the wall assault to the next until it finally settled onto the sight of one the handful of sane people who had bailed on the assault when they still had a chance. The view from the fleeing soldier turned to look behind him, only to see a Ground Gundam closing in at high speed and finally severing the transmission.
