Qianyu thought about it and jumped as he said happily “Thank you, brother! But I thought you didn’t want to give us too much help, what changed that?”
Shaking his head, Ji Li answered “This isn’t helping your control over your talent, nor helping it grow. I am only showing you how to combine our abilities. If you have an idea the next time, like a way I could use my talent in a better combination with yours, you will naturally tell me. The same is for you and Shixuan. Do not hesitate to combine your talents, especially you guys, since you have awakened together. Remember that doing so doesn’t only strengthen your cultivational speed, it strengthens your bond as a whole, such combinations of talents would be stronger for you guys. Unfortunately, I don’t know many combinations of Earth and Wind, so you two will have to think about it on your own.”

Ji Li did his own preparations and he looked at the way the soldiers fought. There would be several stray groups in the morning and midday, none in the evening, and at night there were stronger groups that would try to disturb the outpost from resting while attacking those on the walls. Of course, that didn’t work, since Ji Li placed some temporary Shooting Stars and Windflowers, the formation would take a few more days to finish.
The fact that the formation would finish so fast was already a surprise to many of the soldiers when they heard it. In all honesty, the whole outpost was a formation, but only the bare minimum was built upon it. It is like a blank sheet for formations, already tuned for everything and only awaiting minimal configurations for a new formation.

In front of the main stone house, at night, Tian Xuan came out. He was about to stride away, when the guards stopped him. They said slowly and awkwardly “Lieutenant… Eunuch Li had told us that you should not leave this house…” In all honesty, they couldn’t stop him in any way, but he just sighed and went back in.
The soldiers were surprised it went so well and let out a sigh of relief too. They thought about it and it seemed that their lieutenant probably did something wrong and was punished by his wiv… husband’s mentee in his stead.

The next morning, Ji Li told his brothers to prepare breakfast for them, Lu Wei was already assigned to another tent and Lila was with Shixuan today, she would help him keep an eye out while he was too focused on the formation.
Ji Li went to the stone house and asked the soldiers “Did he try to go out last night?”
The soldiers looked awkwardly, but that was enough for Ji Li, so he didn’t bother them and entered. Looking at Xuan inside who waited patiently for him, it was obvious he didn’t sleep. Not that that was necessary, the stronger one got, the less they would have to sleep, breathe, eat, and so on. Essence would compensate for many of those things.

When Xuan saw Ji Li, he smiled wryly, and one could see that he was somewhat ashamed. He probably heard Ji Li asking the soldiers outside. “Don’t bother them, I told them to keep watch. I am actually surprised they did so well and even told you to stay in your house. It seems that the soldiers of your outpost are a good bunch.”
Tian Xuan shook his head, as he looked at Li, he pressed his lips together in thought for a second and then said “I will send her back to the regional quarters, she will either go back to the headquarters or be assigned another position in this region. I will also tell her that all her fantasies will be over once and for all, and that she should stop harassing me.”
Nodding, Ji Li replied “This should be good. Of course, that is if she would listen to you. It’s good that breakfast is served. All your captains eat together, right? Let’s go, this would be the right time to do so, quick and clean!”
Tian Xuan hesitated “I think we should do it priv- “
“Privately? Why so? Didn’t she intend to involve the whole outpost in her disgusting behaviour? Did you want to go to her tent in the night, tell her nicely that she has no right to remain, so she would start crying and then hug you, you would comfort… don’t look at me like that, I know how you are. If she broke down crying in the middle of the night, you would just let her hug you with the excuse ‘oh, all the others are sleeping, I shouldn’t wake them up’. Tian Xuan, I know you are very strongheaded normally, but the military softened you.”
This was a weird statement. How would the military soften someone. Well, politically, that was very possible. That is not to say there were no politics in the military, but these were things that happened much higher up. While in the capital, politics would be taught to you the moment you were born, and you’d have to start by choosing which baby to befriend.
Tian Xuan looked awkwardly. He didn’t think this would be the way things would go, but it was true ‘It seems Li is right, I really neglected things too much because of Jing’er’s presence. She wasn’t the only woman among the captains, no, males and females were equally split. Yet she was the only one not being able to see things properly.
As she stood up, she suddenly felt a vine sling around her legs, pulling her down and not allowing her to move. The vines grew colder and colder, then stopped when Xuan called out Ji Li.
The woman somehow took that as a cue to look very pained and wanted to thank Xuan, when the vines around her tightened again. This time, there was only a sigh and no help. ‘I really underestimated her. One moment she is trying to run away, but when I say something, she acts like three generations of her family just died, looking lovingly at the only chance for her to live. What a wicked woman, Li was right, I should’ve finished this much sooner.’
Tian Xuan looked at the woman and said “You will be transferred to the regional quarters, from there on, you will be reassigned to another station. Go pack your belongings, you will be going with the soldiers that transport the provisions. They finished yesterday and are ready to head out today, it shouldn’t be an issue if you join and help them a bit on the way.”
The woman instantly called out “B-But Tian Xuan! I don’t- “

Tian Xuan instantly knew that this woman was done for, he couldn’t even help her anymore. This was one of the Taboo’s towards Ji Li, anyone that called him a kid would suffer greatly for this. Even if they were higher ups, he would coldly ignore them and refuse to speak with them. This brought much confusion, and some people came to dislike him because of that, but he never cared and told them that since they didn’t see him as a full functioning being, then there was no need to discuss things with them.
