Chapter 91

#ImperialEunuch

“Also, don’t tell me crap about your camaraderie! She might have fought alongside you, but that doesn’t excuse her disgusting behaviour! I will only tell you once, fix the situation tomorrow morning, don’t you go out there in this night, giving her weird ideas or something! Tomorrow morning, I want you to give me a full plan of what you will do with her!

You might be my dear uncle, but if you fail to do so, don’t underestimate my wrath! How stupid can you be, you both feel so bad about the situation, but one flees while the other can’t get his shit together! I am greatly disappointed about your failure to handle it WEEKS after mentor left this place! If you even think of starting something, expect retaliation!”

Ji Li’s words hit the heart of Tian Xuan, he knew he made mistakes, but the last words of accusations also made him angry, and he was about to refute “Ji Li, I- “

He was instantly interrupted “I don’t wish to hear about your anger, revise a proper plan today, don’t even think of doing anything! Tomorrow, you will tell me about your ideas, and if I find them faulty, then I will take it over. This is the only chance I give you towards fixing the problem, I never intervened in the matters between you and mentor, but don’t think I am not able to do so.”

Ji Li tried to calm himself down for a second before he left without saying another word. Outside, he had many things to inspect and do. He only told the soldiers that they should not let out Tian Xuan, even if he asked for it. When they looked like they wouldn’t follow his command, he spread his killing intent and told them that they should just be obedient.

He was too mad. Having just arrived at the military, he expected to do many interesting things and refresh his mind of the political situations he barely avoided. But now he was back here, barely ten minutes, and already stumbled upon something unpleasant.

Looking around, it seemed that everything was still functioning operational, so went to the high walls. The way to climb them was a steep staircase. He instantly frowned and asked a nearby soldier “Are all stairs in every outpost this steep? This outpost followed a template, right?”

The soldier came to him. He heard the earlier commotion where Tian Xuan greeted Ji Li and his group very jubilantly, so he cupped his fists before explained “That’s right, esteemed eunuch! All outposts are building the same, they would only change with time and suggestions from the local commander, in which case, it is Lieutenant Xuan.”

Ji Li shook his head “This template is a basic and needs to be worked upon to properly show it’s might. Steep stairs are built when there is not much space, and the template tries to efficiently above all, so it is understandable to use them.

But look around us, there is so much space! This fortress could easily fit another few hundred people, so why would you keep everything as is?” Frowning, Ji Li understood that Tian Xuan wasn’t experienced in this stuff and he was newly promoted so he didn’t exactly knew his stuff very well, but Hua Jing should know enough about architecture, it is one of the basic classes given during eunuch training. Hua Jing would never forget that, so it meant he was truly too disturbed by what happened around here. Maybe it was good for him to leave and calm his head.

Ji Li looked at the soldier and told him “Call the logistics captain. You have one of those, right?”

The soldier nodded and went ahead. A few minutes later, he came and cupped his hands. As he was about to introduce himself, Ji Li stopped him and said “The stairs are too steep. In this environment, retreat and changing the wards around the walls will be too dangerous. Especially at night, who knows how many would fall down and hurt themselves? They might not die since everyone is strong, but the chaos it would ensure during battle is beyond measure!”

The captain seemed like he was enlightened but he wasn’t sure whether he could just do it. He looked at the stone house of Tian Xuan, before he was able to go there, he was stopped by Ji Li who told him “The Lieutenant is busy currently, go back and bring the workers, make it fast. We don’t know when the next large wave arrives, so stop hesitating and get to work!”

Ji Li then jumped up, over all the stairs and landed atop the walls. He only needed a single jump to get over the ten-meter-high wall, of course he used some weeds to push him up from below, as well as some wood essence to strengthen his body, but that didn’t matter, he arrived at the top and looked around. The wall was two meters thick, enough for three men to stand behind each other with still some minimal movement possible. That was good, it seemed the outpost sacrificed some space inside the fort to enable large walls, this would be enough in most situations. He looked around and found Shixuan moving all about the fortress wall, inscribing runes and formations into it.

Searching around, he soon found the captain that was apparently surpervising all the soldiers. He signalled for him to come forward, and when he did, he told him “Get all the guards off the walls. We are currently drawing a formation and need as much space as possible, so it would be better if no one approached it. Don’t worry, if anyone attacks, then I will be more than enough to stall them till you all arrived. The formation will safe many lives, so hurry up.”

The captain followed the command, and soon, the walls were bare. Ji Li went up to Shixuan, carefully avoiding any rune, as he said “You included my plants into the formation, right? While it is not really a plant, I will be using puffballs. You still remember what they are from my lessons?”

Shixuan froze for a second and thought, before he confirmed “They are mushrooms with large heads that release an explosive number of spores in milliseconds, right?”

Ji Li nodded in approval “Yes, they are. I will use my talent to freeze them nearly, then quickly unfreeze the main plant as I tell it to spread the spores. They will have my essence in them, and upon landing, they will grow fast and continue spreading the spores far and wide. I can only include enough essence for the second wave to also spread spores. They can only excrete their spores very fast, from then on, they fly on their own, so around each spore will be two Cobra Lilies around them, these well produce a tornado around the fungi while also inflicting the spores with their digestive fluids, making the puffballs which are known to quickly absorb nutrients, even better at doing so. They also have a numbing effect, so it will be a strong attack on the lower enemies and in quantities, also against higher enemies.

Make sure to plan this into your formation. I will only be using them, the three plants make it so that the spores shoot for a maximum of fifty metres, the second wave would barely have any support and only spread the radius of the explosion, while the first wave will have minimal radius but heightened range, balancing each other out.

This will be the first wave of attack from us, recharging the fungi takes long too, if I don’t use large amounts of essence. Hmm... okay, since the enemies come from west, then make sure to leave space for ten groups, while each other side should have two.”

Then Ji Li went outside, looking for Qianyu. He soon found him in the back of a fighting unit, observing and overseeing them, while using his talent to refresh them. Ji Li went to him and waited till he saw that he wasn’t busy anymore and said, “I will be using Cobra Lillies, you know what they do, right?” ‘Gotta test both since I asked Shixuan already.’

Qianyu answered directly, after all, they were Cobra Lillies “Yes! They are carnivorous plants that normally bait their prey, but their body circles around itself at the top, making it look a bit.

This makes them look like they are… ehmm what did you call them again… right! Windsocks, they look like that, just that they are spiralled and downwards normally if you don’t change it individually, so with their body, when strong wind comes upon them, it normally spins around the body and forms into a tornado. This is why they have a natural affinity for wind!”

Nodding once again in approval, Ji Li said “That’s right, you did your study good. So, what if special wind is intentionally propelled towards them, what do you think will happen?”

Qianyu thinks for a second before saying “Well, tornados will be formed and spread around them. With enough extra wind, the tornados might spread the effect of the special wind… wait, brother, do you mean to say that I could use my Talent towards the Cobra Lillies, using them as a helping construct to spread my wind?”
