Chapter 43 - Selecting The Reward

Chapter 43 - Selecting The Reward

Lem was overwhelmed by the results of the simulation.

No matter how he looked at it, he could not help but feel pleased, but he was happiest with the clue he got about Lang Town.

Ultimately, he had always known that the only way to escape the grasp of the evil lay with cultivation.

If he just continued to increase the energy in his body, as he had been, the evil power within him would only continue to grow stronger, raising his need for energy.

It was a vicious cycle that could only end with his death, as at some point, his body would reach a limit to the amount of energy it could safely hold, unlike the evil power.

Even just from the results of consuming the mushrooms, Lem had wondered whether he was already close to that limit.

Now, after eating the seed, he felt like he was closer than ever to reaching it.

The only information Lem knew about cultivation came from Lang Town. It was the local power where the villagers went to sell their products.

Because of his illness, he had only heard about it from others.

He knew there were three martial schools within it: Mountain Paths School, Lang Martial School, and The Sword Of Many Paths. All three certainly had cultivation methods, as this was the minimum requirement of a martial school.

If the guard was to be trusted, they guarded these methods tightly, but he did not believe that they could not be traded for.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

He couldn’t believe this!

At the time that he was driven out of Willow Tree Village, he did not even entertain thoughts of going to the town, so, unfortunately, he currently didn’t even know what direction it was.

Now, at least he could use the harvesters in future simulations to find the town.

However, just because Lem was more happy because of the clues about Lang Town did not mean that he looked past the spiritual seed.

It was clear that it had the potential to grow into a spiritual plant, although he was not sure he would be able to handle the consequences of consuming its mature form as he could barely handle its seed form.

On the other hand, it clearly had immediate benefits for the improvement of his body and mind, and when it finished serving that function, it could still be used to trade with others afterward.

It was impossible to say that he wasn’t tempted to select it directly as a reward. It was clear that the tyrant sloth that had been guarding it had its own plans for it, and Lem would definitely feel the sting if the seed was missing in future simulations.

Still, his caution outweighed such fears. He did not want a bigger fox to come sniffing after him, as it may not be so friendly as the little one.

Of the three options, Lem had decided to select the first.

He knew from the intuitive understanding that had been transmitted to him that the cultivation option was selected from the moment before he was attacked by the dust cat, when the energy was already beginning to settle down within him.

Of course, he still would have to practice the [Nine Bull Fist] to further calm the pent up energy, but the duration would be far less than in the simulation, lowering the corresponding risk.

He also knew that he could focus on speed rather than power, and it should have a similar effect.

The selection had its own risks attached, but there were risks associated with merely existing in the forest.

Unfortunately, the simulation recovery also could not begin until an option was selected, so he was forced to proceed without any safety measures, apart from the path he had already simulated.

Option 1, Lem thought with intent, as he secured his spear on his back.
