Chapter 33 - Rising In Proficiency

Chapter 33 - Rising In Proficiency

For a split second, time froze. A rush of memories flew through Lem’s mind at an incredible speed.

He completely forgot where he was.

In vivid detail, he experienced the entirety of the twenty-four day simulation as it had occurred from the perspective of his simulated self.

He felt the rush and uncontrollable elation that compelled him to eat the mushrooms.

He experienced the horror of nearly exploding while trying desperately to stop the spiritual energy inside him from increasing any further.

When he came across the harvest tree, shivers of fear ran down his spine, as he realized how close he had come to being killed.

When he was trapped in the illusions of the evil flower, his mind was wrapped in layers of confusion.

When he could not escape the flower, he was beset with hopelessness.

He fell victim to the slow degradation of his mind and body due to the evil power within him.

And in the great battle that followed, all he thought about was the continuous practice of the [Nine Bull Fist], even as his mind was becoming warped beyond comprehension.

A moment of elation came.

He felt certain that all the intricacies of martial arts were laid bare before him.

Each punch seemed more powerful than the last, as if he was shaking the very heavens.

He realized that his attacks were not harming the evil flower.

He died in confusion.

A moment later, time resumed, and Lem returned to his former presence of mind, with the experiences having been reduced to detached memories. The memories then slowly faded into insights about life and martial arts, leaving none of the emotional content behind.

Lem shivered involuntarily.

He felt grateful to the system for immediately modifying the experiences so that they could no longer have an impact on his mental state.

The biggest reward of the simulation was what he had expected. His understanding of the [Nine Bull Fist] had improved enormously.

If before he was trying to replicate a complicated motion, now he understood how the motion gave rise to an otherworldly force.

Lem felt as though he was far from mastering that force, but he could at least exert a shadow of its potential.

He checked the simulation screen.

Lem saw that his recorded mastery of the [Nine Bull Fist] had improved, as he had expected.

Acting on impulse, he delivered an attack into the air. The intricacies of the motion were fluid and natural, directed towards the point of impact, where his fist vibrated with the emergent force.

Smack!

There was an unexpectedly loud sound, making him feel a jolt of nervousness.

What was he doing?

Why was it so loud?

In his memories, he had never made such loud noises simply from attacking the air.

A moment later, he felt like ridiculing himself.

The reason he had not made such noises when he was battling the flower was because his body had been much more depleted by that time.

At the moment, he had the energy of two courses of spiritual mushrooms rushing through his body, so it was expected that the technique would produce a different effect.

As he became anxious due to his blunder, Lem quickly moved through the forest in a northern direction, heedless of the branches and vines that snagged him while he ran.

A few minutes later, he felt as though he had traveled a safe distance and he stopped, monitoring his surroundings while he removed twigs and leaves from his clothing.

He checked the simulation screen nervously.
