77. A Helping Hand

—Dray’s PoV—

‘Why don’t you look at that.’ I thought as I flew toward the commotion.

What was this Daniel doing here in the Cargen Forest? Was he here to train as well? That didn’t really make sense considering how far this place was from the academy.

‘A majestic tentacle slug.’ These monsters were quite rare, so the carcass should fetch for a lot.

As I watched the battle with my heightened vision, I saw him getting blown away and smashing headfirst into a rock. To me, he seemed to be in quite the pinch, but I guess I was wrong since he got up perfectly fine the next moment.

At his current level, I doubt he would be able to defeat a Mythical majestic tentacle slug.

I gave a cursory glance at the other two people. They weren’t too noteworthy, so I ignored them.

I started speeding up and as I did that, a loud noise came from behind that almost shattered my eardrums.

Grabbing onto my right foot and flailing about in the air was my “disciple,” the soon to be Hero Sam.

‘Hearing Curse.’ All the noise warped into nothingness as I lost my sense of hearing.

Although it was annoying to deafen my ears every time, it was what it was. I’m sure he’ll get used to it, eventually.

With how well I trained his body, he should be able to hold on to my leg for a very long time, that is unless he wanted to die. Even if I shook my leg and dropped him off here, I was certain that he would survive with how tough his bones are now. He made quite some progress during the few months, even though he was utilizing the extra time within my soul plane.

‘Soul Examine.’

For the most part, he was already on par with the seniors of the academy, maybe even some weaker teachers. But when compared to me... I guess he still had some aspects to improve on.

‘Hmm, should I start training him in soul arts as well?’

Although not many people knew soul arts, it was still a useful thing to know since it strengthened the soul to be impervious to spiritual attacks, which also included the usage of spiritual attacks against intangible enemies like ghosts.

Looking at Sam’s gaping mouth and closed eyes, I figured there was no use in rushing the development of the soul, so I should teach it to him at a later time.

By now, I’m sure someone would be aware of us flying about in the air with Sam screaming so loud. However loud he was, as long as my eardrums were protected, I couldn’t care. Magic was truly an amazing thing when confronted with unexpected situations.

Since the majestic tentacle slug was their prey, it would be rude to just appear out of nowhere and snatch it from them. Though, they did seem to be having a hard time...

Against a slug like that, the most effective spells would be those of the Earth element.

I cast two spells at once, first a level 7 Earth Prison, then a level 8 Earth Implosion.

The slug found itself stuck inside a thick brown cage at first, and in the next moment, the cage broke down as well as the ground beneath its slimy “foot.” Crushed by the debris, the slug was now rendered immobile.

As I watched its hopeless squirming, I sped up a bit faster and left the scene.

‘Daniel, you owe me one.’ I noted in my head.

After a couple minutes of flying, I was sure we were there. This should be at the deeper parts of the Cargen Forest. I recall burying it somewhere around here.

Just thinking about my storage ring reminded me of the long and grueling process.

I had a blacksmith smelt pure mythril over my treasured storage ring and formed it into a circle shape. I had then brought it to one of the world’s most renowned painters and got him to paint the mythril ball and make it look like a rock. Once that was done, I personally engraved multiple level 9 grand formations layered on top of each other just to establish a newly formed dimension. As well as creating a dimension, I also cut off a part of my soul to create a fragmented will to carry out my order.

To be completely honest, I didn’t know why I did all of that but I guess the fear of dying in the hands of the Demon God got to me so I wanted to at least create some sort of inheritance for the future generations to come.

As I hovered down slowly, Sam seemed to stop screaming, so I lifted the Hearing Curse by circulating mana into my ears.
