I returned to my senses and examined the guy in front of me. He was already chanting something. The moment I saw him chant, I knew it would be an easy fight since chanting usually meant a new spell they had just learned. By chanting, it would allow them to better visualize the magic circle so they could cast it better. Although it was helpful for memorizing the magic circle, it still takes time to chant and even a couple seconds wasted on the battlefield can mean death.
He raised both his hands with palms facing toward me. A grey magic circle with two circles appeared in between his palms. The color of a magic circle represented the element type. Until one has completely mastered a spell, the magic circle will always appear for all to see. This was yet another flaw for spell casters. With the basic knowledge of magic circles, fighters had enough time to prepare for the spell.
Based on the color grey and two circles, it was clearly a level 2 Wind type spell. I wasn't able to hear his chant clearly but I knew it was a Wind Blade. For every level, there is only one spell for each element; there were some exceptions though.
That was more than enough information for me to conclude he would be a walk in the park for me. But this was only the beginning of the fight for me. What I had to do was make my victory look like a fluke. Even though I wanted to defy the curse, I still could not risk my Merit Points.
You could call me a hypocrite but I couldn't care less.
Anyway, I had already formulated a plan and was only waiting for the right moment.

I could feel the mana pouring out of my hands and transforming into a completely new substance. After a couple seconds, I could tell half of my body's mana was depleted for a single level 2 spell. Just imagining the mana cost of the higher level spells scared me. As more mana was channeled into the magic circle, its transparency had disappeared and the color had become noticeably thicker.
That was the cue.
I stopped myself from channeling too much mana and imagined a horizontal blade slicing the air.
As if working in tandem with my thoughts, a grey crescent was formed in front of the magic circle.
The crescent that was stationary suddenly blasted toward Daniel. Seeing the panicked expression on his face, I knew he was screwed.
As the crescent flew closer and closer to him, his complexion grew.
When the crescent blade was just before his chest, he tried to move in reaction but I knew it was too late.
But then...
What happened next could only be a miracle granted by Argos.

On the bleachers, a student gasped loudly as if he were watching a show.
Another student shouted, "Woah, was he actually a hidden genius that was posing as a sheep?"
"What do you mean hidden genius? He clearly slipped on the floor by accident. The only genius attribute would be his luck." Chimed another student.
That's right! Right before the Wind Blade had hit him, he had tripped and fallen backwards; thus dodging the blade by a mere centimetre.
Daniel who was sprawled on the floor got himself off the ground.
He looked around clueless of his current predicament and said shyly, "I— I actually survived..."
A look of disbelief was on his face.
A bunch of students followed up.
"As expected of a student of the Magic Knight Academy! Although his talent is low, his luck is godly." Said a girl with hearts in her eyes.
"What bullsh*t are you spouting. Clearly, the only thing in your mind is his appearance. You've been seduced by him!" Said the guy sitting next to her.
I looked at him and closely examined his features. I hadn't examined his overall appearance before because I was too engrossed in winning.
Deep black eyes like that of the abyss. Matching his beautiful pair of eyes was his short flowing hair; it was also black. Along with the smooth white skin that was as majestic as the brightest stars. With a slim yet toned body. One could tell he never skipped neck day by glancing at his neckline.
'Snap out of it Scott Hans! You are a 100% straight male!' I gave myself a subtle slap to the face to wake myself up. If I continued looking, not even Argos would know if I was straight or not.
As I was distracted by his dazzling appearance, he had already made his way to me and threw a punch straight to my face.
The only thing I could do was watch. My body could not react in time. My physique realm was only at the tempered body realm and I had never dabbled in anything related to martial arts so I could only watch as the fist inched closer and closer.
I closed my eyes in anticipation, but the punch never came.
Opening my eyes to look at what happened, Daniel was on the floor looking as if he had tripped again.
"Haha! Like they say, good luck and bad luck come together." Said someone.
'This was my chance.'
Taking advantage of the fact that he was on the ground defenseless, I started casting another Wind Blade.
"O' great Magic God. Bless this humble one with the power of the wind. With the wind as my blade, and my blade as the— Oof!"
'This scoundrel! He was still trying to win?'
As that fleeting thought crossed my mind, I had already started to feel a bit dizzy. It would only be a matter of time before I would black o...

I checked up on Scott and he seemed to be out cold.
I looked at the audience and no one seemed to cheer for me...
Well I guess this is to be expected when the battle was so anticlimactic.
While I was on the ground pretending to have tripped yet again, I jumped straight up and headbutted him in the chin.
It was a strange fight, wouldn't you agree?
But what had to be done, had to be done.

"What just happened?"
"Did I see that clearly?"
"Was that calculated or another miracle?" All the students watching the duel were confused.
"This..." Even the professor was unsure of what to say.
The professor cast a type of healing spell on Scott and brought him back to the bleachers to rest.
As a professor, he had the duty to evaluate the fight.
He announced loudly so that every could hear him, "The winner is Daniel. The next pair is..."
I walked back to my seat and Rachel looked extremely displeased. I had enough experience from watching movies in my previous life to know not to confront a girl in that state.
"Why did you do that?" She whispered to me as I took my seat next to her.
"What do you mean?" I whispered back.
She pouted cutely in response and turned to look somewhere else.
