64. Good Lad

Looking up from the window sill, I could see the bright moon in the cloudless skies. The footsteps started to slow down as I thought up a way to get on top of the roof.

I reached my hand out the window and moved it along the walls, trying to find ledges to take hold of. The walls were made of bricks but the small gaps in between each individual brick were not wide enough for me to take advantage of.

Since I couldn't emulate what I saw in those spy movies, I figured that I should try something a bit different.

I thought of the hoodie that was in my inventory and it immediately equipped itself onto me.

I leapt out of the window as far as I could and turned my body to look at the rooftops.

I didn't even need to consciously think about it but my wings spread open in reaction to my leap of faith. I was able to feel the two pairs of wings ripping through the fabric of the hoodie.

Although the hoodie was ripped, I wasn't too worried since I knew it would be fine. When I was experimenting with the wings, it turned out that as long as I wore the hoodie, it would revert back to its previous state upon retraction of the four wings. As for other clothes, they seemed to stay ripped so I concluded that it was either a secret repairing function of the hoodie or that it had something to do with the system.

As I slowly flew up, I was able to make out the faint silhouette of a person.

Placing my hands on the roof, I retracted my wings and got my body up.

I kept my body low and covertly walked toward the silhouette.

I took out the Seventh Star Sword from my inventory as I got closer. The person was at the corner of the roof and he seemed to be installing some sort of device there.

When I finally got close enough without making a single sound, the person suddenly turned around and gave a solid punch to my face. With how close I was, I was unable to dodge it so I propped my blade up and blocked the punch with the cross guard.

Surprisingly, the sword made a loud clang which should not have happened when clashing with human flesh. If anything, the person's fist should have broken upon hitting it.

Seeing that he punched the solid metal of the cross guard with no hesitation and that he was able to notice me despite my quiet approach, he was definitely a force to be reckoned with. Now that I was close enough, I could see that he was dressed in a black suit, similar to the butlers. He also had a rag atop his head which covered the entirety of his face.

'How can he see when there were no eye holes?' Before I could start questioning him, he threw yet another punch.

I again blocked it with the cross guard and proceeded to counter attack by cutting his arm off.

While I had expected a clean cut, it made a resounding clank again when I slashed the sword at his shoulder. This didn't make any sense. The clang it made upon impact was similar to the sound from hitting metal on metal.

While I was blown back by the impact, he threw another punch at me straight to the chest.

I knew I had to somehow tank this hit. I was in no position to dodge or block the attack. From the previous exchange, I knew that there was something up with this guy's body.

'I should've stuck with the spear.' I thought as his single punch blasted me a couple metres away. Confronting a brute like this in close combat like this was laughable.

A landed on my back with a loud thump. Just what was up with that sh*t? Was he on steroids? The impact of the punch made me remember the thing that got me killed in my past life. He hit like a f*cking truck.

I coughed out a handful of fresh blood onto my hands. F*ck, I felt like dying. But I couldn't just black out here.

[Life Force: 10/110]

Holy sh*t he almost killed me with a single punch.

'Healing Potion.'

[Healing: Life Force +100]

He turned back to setting up the device the moment I took the punch straight to the chest. It was as if he knew I was already a dead man.

'F*ck this bastard.'

I put the Seventh Star Sword back into the inventory and withdrew the Molten Spear of Mutilation. Even though it was a garbage weapon compared to the sword in terms of strength, it improved my agility stat by 10 which was what I needed to dodge his attacks. As for how I actually beat him, one of the functions of the spear was the ability to cause burns.

Just as I was about to get up from the ground, I heard a loud shout. "Freeze where you are intruders! You dare to intrude upon a Duke's property!"

That voice belonged to Mr. Dean. He must have been alerted by the loud clanging.

I hurriedly put the spear back into my inventory and unequipped the hoodie. After smearing the blood from my palms on my face, I laid there on the roof acting as if I was about to die.

Just as I finished the preparations, hundreds of level 1 Light Orbs appeared in the air which illuminated the rooftop. Mr. Dean and a bunch of people wearing armaments with a daisy symbol flew up in the air as well. The intruder in question made a break for it and jumped off the roof. All the people except two went to chase after the guy.

The two who were left were Mr. Dean and one other blonde haired fellow.

I couldn't exactly hear what they were talking about but the blonde haired fellow went over to investigate the device that the intruder left behind while Mr. Dean came over to me.

"Good lad, just what in the world were you doing? If you notice an intruder, you must alert one of us. I get that you are young and bold, but you must take precedence over your life. If I weren't at the control room, I would not have noticed that you left your room." He said to me.

'Control room? He knew I left my room? Did they have a secret camera somewhere? Wasn't that invasion of privacy?'

I continued to play weak and pretended to pass out.

"Huh, just how am I supposed to explain this to the master. Whose idea was it to only install cameras inside the mansion and not outside?"
