The next day, Thomas scanned his ID to get into work. As he had skipped work yesterday, he intended on getting extra hours in. If it weren’t for needing extra hours, he would have waited until night to come in. Thomas was greeted instantly by his boss.
“Hey, Thomas, I see you showed up today,” the boss said.
“Yeah, sorry… I had a family issue to attend to yesterday,” Thomas said. “You know how families are sometimes.“
“Indeed I do. Say, do you happen to have any intel about the lion attack on the beach yesterday?” the boss asked, casually sticking his hands into his pockets.
“Uhhhh…well, no, sir. I must have missed it. A lion, you say?” Thomas asked, trying not to look nervous.
“Yeah, it got posted on the news. Some lion appeared out of nowhere and started eating people,” the boss said.

“Huh, that is quite strange, sir. I’ve never heard of a Beach Lion,” Thomas said.
“Yeah, me neither. This world gets stranger by the day,” the boss said. “Well, anyhow, get some work in. I have important files that need sorting.”
“Yes, sir!” Thomas said.
Thomas walked away from his boss. The boss continued staring after the young man. Thomas then took the elevator to the floor he works on. Much to his surprise, Daisy was already there.
“Good morning, Daisy. I didn’t expect to see you here so early,” Thomas said.
“You neither!” Daisy said with a gasp.
“How’s work?” Thomas asked.
“Same as usual, and you?” Daisy asked.
“Yep. Same here,” Thomas said.
“I assume boss asked you about the lion?” Daisy asked.
“Is he asking everyone about it?” Thomas asked.
“Yeah, he asked me, too. Strange, isn’t it?” Daisy asked.
“Yeah…” Thomas said. “I wouldn’t worry about it. A Beach Lion wouldn’t be in an office.”
“Good point!” Daisy said with a grin.
“So, uhhh, want to go out for croissants again some time?” Thomas asked.
“Sure,” Daisy said.
