Chapter 67: the Smart One

Chapter 67: the Smart One

“The woman escaped. She did nothing during the fight, other than most likely the fact, that she had been the culprit for hiding their presence from my senses. This is a real failure on my part. Capturing them alive is also useless, as it is most likely that they are just pawns of no value, anyway it is most obvious who is behind this. I am old and truly weak, my time is really nearing.”

"Sigh!"

With the few words that were addressed to himself, the old man looked south as he knew that the young boy was in grave danger but, his instinct was telling him that, the strange kid he had just met for less than twenty days, would not die, even if he were to be left alone. But as he turned to look at the men inside the protective barrier, he could see, that Rowen was looking blankly at the broken and ripped and buried body parts of the guards that had died as a certain depressing hopelessness was covering his eyes, giving him a look that worried old Wan. Compelling the old man to take sight after sigh, as he knew more or less the metal train, that the young man was in at this moment.

"Sigh"

Returning back in time, when Levis was on the head of the black snake, with his hands stuck into his eyes, and just about to enter the forest.

[Fuck, ahhh--- the brhaches, fuuuck.]

[Kid, stay close to the snake, or you will get a tree branch, that will throw you off the snake, and rip your arm if you can not pull it out.]

[Why is my arm stuck?]

[It is most likely the second eyelid of the snake that trapt your arm, move the weapon inside the eye, and it will lose up the eyelid, out of the pain, for a brief moment.]

With a new direction to act upon, Levis did as told, and moved his left hand holding the dagger, as the new emergence of the pain, made the snake go into a new frenzy as it trashed its body against all the trees that were in its way.

However, this resulted in its involuntary reflex of letting Levis’s arm free, but at the same time, the boy was thrown off, from the snake's head, after enduring a long round of getting hit by the branches and many leaves of the trees.

Despite all of that, his fall was anything but graceful as he tumbled several times on the ground, and made a stop only by the time some bushes killed the momentum of his tumbling.

“Argh, I did it—!” — [Now what?]

[Try to survive.]

[How, this snake is so strong, I do not have any chance of winning. He is emitting a presence akin to those that can hide from my senses. It must be at the Immortal stage, right?]

[Corect, rank 1 Immortal. But now, what can you do? Your chances were faring far better when you were with the remaining group, and now, you are alone, facing a beast far too strong for you to kill.]

[I will kill my presence, and then—!] — “Arghhhh!!!”

But just as Levis was about to enact his plan of hiding himself, the tail of the snake came rushing at him, sending him flying and tumbling on the ground for a dozen or so meters, stopping at the foot of a big rock, as he had no idea of what had just happened.

The hit left him in a confusing state, for a brief moment, as its body was screaming out in pain from having to bore the force generated from the end tail of the beast.

[Arghhh, damn, damn, I have broken the bones of my right arm, and some of the ribs as well, ahhh—, what the hell was that? Is this snake not blind?]

[This is not an ordinary beast, and you should not take it lightly, when in a fight.]

[ [You should tell him that this thing is not a natural creature, to begin with, should you not?] ]

[ [Not now. Too much information will not help him.] ]

[Then what should I do?]

[Your plan is good, but in this case, you should know that this beast is using its hearing and smelling organs to track you. So, there is not much you can do as to hide. Fight it or try to run back, your choice of death.]

[I will fight, if it wants me dead, it should come again for me, so I can blow its head apart this time around!!! Time to use the finger and kill it!!!]

Though, as Levis rose to its feet while enduring the pain given by the broken bones and shaken organs, the snake was using its tongue as to sense and approach him, while it was ready to use its mouth filled with razor-sharp tenths, which made Levis question himself if the snakes he knew had this kind of mouth or this one, was a strange type of snakes that he had never heard of.

But even as he was slightly derailed, with his thoughts, his finger was almost ready, steeling and reading himself, to move sideways, and target the eyes again once the snake would lunge at him, as only now did he realize that he had wasted the chance to kill it while he had his hand stuck in its eye.

[Come and died to damn it—, eh---! What is this?!!!]

Yet, as he was silently preparing to confront the snake, which was as big, as half of a mature tree. While looking at it, he begin to grasp tighter and tighter his dagger, while he threw the knife out of his hand, so to prepare himself, to use all of his accumulated energy in his body, to blow the head of the snake as fast as he could.

However, just before he could even act, the strangest of things happened, while the snake was using its forked tongue to smell his location that could not see.

The odd happening, which left him with his eyes and jaws loose, was the sight of a boar that was almost flying, as its body was not on the ground but in mid-air, a meter or so above the ground. But even more so, from the fast speed that created a gale of wind blowing from his right side, from where he had emerged, while the two forward protruding tusks, stabbed the snake right under its head, but the death of the snake was not a result of the stab, as much of its spinning motion that caused the snake's body to be ripped into two parts, that of its head with the bleeding eyes from Levis's prior action, and the largest longest part, that was its body, which was ten or so meters long, which continue to move even after the board had disappeared from its own speed, further in into the forest, leaving Levis to stare at the head of the snake that was opening its jaw, and using its tongue, as though it did not even know it was already dead.

[What was that?]

[A boar.]

[I know it was a boar, but-, but what was this?]

[A boar that killed your snake.]

[That is not what I was asking! Wait---, it is coming back!!! What do I do?]

[What can you do, this boar is far stronger than the snake, so you are obviously doomed to die.]

[What? Can you help me?]

[The second flask!]

[No!] — “Alright, do you think I was scared of the snake, it does not matter if you are a bear, tiger, or wild boar, I will fight you!!!”

As Levis stood shocked, with his back to the large rock, the boar that had flown as though as rapid as a descending sparrow, returned on its small stubby legs, which made for a huge contrast to its body that seems to be that of a large fat man trying to walk on the legs of a frail an unnourished beggar.

But as the boar approached even closer, Levis could finely take in the proportions of the boar, as it was truly a big beast, that could rival some of the big bears he had seen, when the village hunter had brought him on one of his hunts.

“Do you think I am scared of you, come on—!”

"Thud” - ”Splash”

“Gulp.”

Though as the beast came closer, it used its right leg to crush the head of the snake that was still moving, as the blood and its brains become a mixture of sorts on the surrounding grass, making the boy gulp down, as this was not boding well for him, just by looking at the boar that was covered in the blood of the snake.

“This is my moment, I will go down with you!!!”

“--Agrr–, Human cub—, what are—, you agrr—, saying?”

“Eh!”

But, the moment that words came out of the moving mouth of the boar, the face filled with resolve and determination seemed to be destroyed in an instant, while its eyes widen, as though his mental capacities seemed to stop of its own functions for several moments.

[Urger!]

[What?]

[Did---, did--, did the boar talk? Or is he a new voice inside my mind?]

[No, it most definitely talked.]

[Inside my mind?]

[No, outside, in the world, with its own mouth. This boar can communicate with you.]

[---.]

[------.]

[-------.]

“---Human-, cub!?”

[What! How can a boar talk?]

[What is cultivation comprised of?]

[Eh!?]

[Just answered.]

[Body, mind, and dantian.]

[So.]

[So what?]

“---Human cub—!!! Did you hit– agrr–, your head?—Well–, it is–agrrr– not my fault.”

[Arghh, the mind! What are you using it for?]

[To remember things.]

“Listen—, human cub—, we need–agrr– to move—. To meet—, other humans. Let us—agrr– move.”

[Fundementaly you are correct, as remembering is one the great uses of the mind. But the mind can be trained, and as cultivators grow their bodies, they grow their minds too. The consciousness, to be more specific, so as to be able, to keep up with increased physical capabilities and control the vast energy of their dantian—. How did the white hair boy move? Could you see him well, as he was fighting?]

[No good, senior Wan, and the other cultivators were too fast from me to see, all that well. I could not even react, to the one that had stabbed brother Rowen.]

[See, just moving in that situation had been a surprising result, but you at least could follow them. Well, returning to this boar, this one has quite a strong mind, which is why he is able to pick up your language. In the shortest version, as your mind will get stronger, learning and your other mental faculties will get faster and more leisurely, a miracle for you, as you can become a genius simply by existing and devouring the world.]

[Then does that mean I can learn how to speak with animals too?]

[---.]

[What!?]

[Haha—, disciple, worry not, for that will be an easy thing once you can understand how to do it.]

[Alright.]

[ [What logic does he follow?] ]

[ [Fate does not follow any logic or order, it just moves as it exists. If he wants to do so, then let him be, let him do his own way.] ]

[ [Simply ridiculous.] ]

“---Cub– it is not like–agrr– you are dead—right?”

However, as Levis was getting lectured by Urger, the boar nudged the unmoving and almost dead-like person that was Levis, that stood on his feet, with his mouth open and eyes that were not blinking, as the large beast begin to look at him with concern.

“Ahhh—, no— I am not dead.”

“Agrrr—!! Human cub you are alive!---”

“No I was just tired—, and—.”

“You sleep— on feet, like—, horse?”

“Ahh- yes. But who are you?”

“Who is— me?”

With a nod of confirmation, from Levis, the boar moved back a little as it tried to raise its head while trying to make an impressive pose, but due to the blood covering him and the snake's remainings, the scene was other than impressive as there was a slight tinge of vicious ness added to his character at the moment.

“I—, smart—, boar.---No, boar, smarter– than all other bores is—agrr—, as boars–not as smart as boar is!”

“What?”

“Haha—, human cub confused!”

[This boar is joking around with me!]

“Now---, human cub—, boar will let you--- ride on my--- back— agrr–, boar has seen you challenging---agrr--- the monster, boar-likes--- courage, you courageous--- human cub.”

“Ahh, alright—, but my name is Levis, not “human cub”, understood! Levis!”

“Alright—, cub Levis--- hop on---agrrr--- my back, I will bring you--- to your--- pack of humans."

As the boar let Levis, to hop on his back, he jumped with no fear, but saying that he had jumped was wrong, as he had climbed with quite the struggle on his back, due to the pain that he was suffering from his hand that had numerous broken bones.

Though once on his back. the boar, begin to walk in the direction of where the fight was taking place, as numerous strong energy fluctuations took place one after another. In the end, an explosion of fire brightened the area for a moment, radiating some heat to Levis's face.

[It is the man that can make fire, this is the kind of power that I want. When I can do the same fire magic as him?]

[Soon.]

[How soon?]

[Are you not preoccupied with going back?]

[Why? With this boar, as an ally, we should be good?]

[You do not even know why this boar is here, and you just jumped on his back, what if he is taking you, to his layer, so as to eat you, with his family of boars.]

[What!!!!!]

[You scared now?]

[He will not do so---, right? Plus we are going in the right direction, and senior Wan will win pretty soon.]

[Hooo, and why is that.]

[Hmmm---, instinct you can say. When I looked at the bad cultivators, I did not pick the same dangerous signals, as when I look at senior Wan.]

[Hooo, hooo, now this is interesting.]

"Cub Levis---, you sleeping--agrrr-- again?"

"No, I just looked at the fire and was thinking of my group." --- [His speech though, is not all that fluid.]

[Beast or animals will develop enough mental capacity to be able to grasp the human language, when arrived at the King stage, but as he is at rank 9 Immortal, he falls just slightly short. Though, this one is among the smartest animals, which is undoubtedly true, as not all beasts can speak at his point in mental cultivation.]

"Cub Levis pack--- alright.--- Boar's human friend--- strong."

"Your friend?"

"Yes, friend--- but boar---, did not want to arrive so close---."

"Close to what?"

"The cursed and evil mountains. From where the monsters come, for they are not true beasts."

"Cursed and evil mountains? Monsters?"

"Cub Levis,--- does not know---agrrr?"

"No!"

"Well---agrrr---, boar will tell---, agrrreed!?"

"Hmm, yes. Wait, we are out! I can see them!"

But amidst their conversations, the boar and small child finally escape from the forest, to witness the current situation of the large opened field. As smoke was still rising from some places, while the smell of burned meat was coming from the charred snakes and guards that had died from the explosive fire of the enemy cultivator.

However, the sight of the fire spark cultivator kneeling in a pool of blood, and the crippled cultivator which had a spear in his chest, that was holding his headless body from falling, told him that the fight had already ended, though he still had many questions as he was looking at the dead strong cultivators.

However, old Wan who was seated resting on the body of a snake looked at him with a smile, and the same smile rose on the faces of the ones inside the orange protective shield.

"Young Levis."

"Levis!!!"

"Kid, you are alive!"

"Levis, are you hurt?"
