Chapter 17

When I came back to the camp I embarked on a mission to find Otho and apologize for being a mean donkey penis. I searched everywhere, but I couldn’t find him, so I went to my room and lay on my bed. I thought of Marius, how he was doing and all that. Then I sat down at my desk and wrote two letters. One was for my mother, who I missed despite her sometimes demanding ways. The other was for Nicola, whom I had promised I’d write to. I informed her that I was chosen for a diplomatic mission that will embark on late summer. I reassured her of my promise of writing letters when on the road. Right about when I finished there was a gentle knock on the door.

“Yes?” I said, immediately annoyed. I was the crankiest person I had ever known!

It was Otho.

“Am I bothering you?” he asked humbly.

“Not at all! I’m sorry I snapped at you earlier. It wasn’t my intent to be mean… Leaving Antonia and everything…“ I rolled my eyes.

“No, I understand… “ He sat down on my bed and I turned my chair to face him.

“So… We’ll be spending a lot of time with each other, ha?”

“I still can’t believe they chose me!”

“Ha ha ha,” I laughed, then added: “You have tremendous qualities, Otho, you know that.”

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

“Yes, but still…”

“Oh, come on now… You heard what masters are telling us. Hard times ahead, blah blah blah – this is no time for insecurities. We've been chosen. This is our path. No sense dwelling in why.”

“Says a man who was all pissy this morning! Ha!”

“What can I say, I’m a masterful hypocrite,” I blushed.

“Ha ha ha!” he laughed. It was nice seeing him in a good mood.

“When will you drink the tea? Have you thought about it?”

“I already drank it, Antonius” he smiled with an almost evil smirk. I liked that.

“When?!”

“Two months ago.”

“So, how come you’re running from every single one of them witches that keep trying to grab you?!”

“I don’t know, I’m shy!” he blushed, hard, his face turning into a red apple.

“Well… You’re missing out.”

“Yes, perhaps. There’s still time for that. How did Antonia take it? The news about the mission?”

“Good, better than I.”

“What do you think they’ll have us do after the temple?”

“I don’t know, I guess they’ll have us preparing for the mission. You know, intelligence, particular customs, protocols of each realm, things like that. My guess is we’ll be stationed in Lux.”

“That would be great, I’d get to visit my mother,” he sighed, almost tearing up.

“Have you been in contact with her?”

“Yes, through my aunt. I write to her and then she gives the letter to my mother.”

We talked until dark. Then I went to the downpours, cleaned myself up and went straight to bed. I slept through the whole night.
