2.1 Elves and dancing

"Pleased to make your acquaintance, my name is Felix," he introduced himself to the elf. As seen by the pointed ears.

The elf in front of him smiled, "Khidell." The elf waved their hand, and Felix was no longer in his black trousers and white shirt. He wore a light gown, just like the elf before him, made out of different layers of fabric. The fabric had the colors of nature, with light and dark greens, light browns, and bits of white. Even if Felix couldn't see it, the colors of the fabric greatly complemented his emerald eyes. It was as if he was made to wear such attires.

"Come with me now child," they said and walked deeper into these enchanting woods.

As Felix followed them, he walked by lakes and large trees, growing higher than any he had seen before. He felt like he was in a fairytale. They walked further and further, in the distance he could see the biggest tree of all.

The Mothertree, or as the elves call it 'Amilgalada'.

The all-nurturing tree of the elves and everything that lived in the forest.

Felix looked at all of the huts and little houses they walked by, as the elf in front of him walked further and further to the center. The streets began to look different the closer they got to the center, the dirt path they walked before was now made out of white and gray stones, marbling into each other. Only the hits and houses didn't change much, if anything they just seemed more nature-grown. As if they didn't even build anything, it was more like nature grew these houses and the elves lived inside. The elf in front of him stopped and Felix saw a stone platform, it was in front of the Mothertree, the roots of the tree encased the platform.

"Go on the platform, you won't leave it until you are ready. In the form you have right now you won't need rest or food anyway," the elf said, motioning for Felix to walk onto the platform.

As Felix walked onto the platform he saw an invisible wall going up, locking him inside. Music started playing, a mixture of horns, harps, and soft wooden clanging. He saw flutes, ocarinas made of wood, and even a wooden xylophone.

Jewels on the side of the platform began to shine, the green one shone the brightest and in front of Felix was now an elvish woman. She was made out of a green shine as if by holoprojection. She smiled at him and then showed him a few simple movements with her arms, that swung beautifully to the music around him. When she finished she smiled at Felix, moving her hand as if telling him to copy what she did.

Felix tried to replicate what he saw, but first, he didn't pay attention and second, he didn't really dance before. All of his movement seemed unnatural even to him, he felt like he couldn't even move his body the way he wanted to. The elf in front of him only kindly shook her head and danced again. This time Felix paid attention and tried to move his body even when she was dancing in front of her. He practiced and it was by no means fluent or even as gracefully, but he knew what the choreography was. So now he only tried to bend his body and arms the way he needed so, that it would look more graceful. Time flew by and Felix finally passed the dance. The elf in front of him smiled kindly and bowed a little, before vanishing into the green light. The green jewel was extinguished and the next jewel began to shine, a yellow one.

This time an elven child stood in front of him, the little boy had a big smile as he showed him a playful dance. It looked as graceful as the dance before, but there were more jumps, twirls, and balancing features. When the child was finished he looked expectantly at Felix.

Felix looked amused as he tried to dance to what he had just seen. Just like before he tried to move like the wind, bending flexibly as he then jumped trying the same twirl in the air. The only thing he did was fail miserably as he fell to the ground. He didn't feel any pain, and as Felix looked at the child, he saw that the elven child laughed at him.

Annoyed at the child he stood up and tried again, and again, and again. The laughter of the child added only more fuel that he had to get it right. Felix doesn't know how much time he spends learning and dancing this dance full of childish things.

He also couldn't figure out at what time it actually felt fun to dance like the whole world couldn't touch him. If the dance before showed him the first gracefulness of the elves, this dance showed him the playfulness and the cheekyness. The fun to dance and feel free, when he finished the dance perfectly with the feeling of being free and a child his eyes watered.

He felt tears running down his face as he twirled for one last time, the child smiled sadly, walked up to Felix, and rubbed his leg in a comforting sense.

As Felix looked down, he could feel the touch of the elven child and felt sad when the child vanished into the yellow light.

Just like that Felix met many more, challenges and dances. The red was alluring and sexy, and the blue jewel made him dance like the ocean and then the white jewel shone.

In front of him was the most beefiest guy he had ever seen, one of his arms was as thick as his head. Only his long ears made it clear that he was an elf. The dance this elven hunk performed wasn't at all like the dances before, full of freedom and lightness. No, this dance was more like a war cry, it was full of murderous energy. Felix tried to replicate what the big guy in front of him showed, but his movement didn't carry enough strength. So that he looked like a wannabe Hulk.

The bulky elf in front of him looked at those movements and grabbed his chin to think, then the elf vanished into the white hue. Felix looked at that and thought maybe they gave up on him, he wasn't really that good at dancing. Even though he passed those dances and challenges, he felt like he wasn't even half as graceful. Another figure appeared in front of him, it was a thinner elf, he had a pointed chin and the outfit looked like that of an assassin. At least that's how assassins looked in video games.

The elf looked at Felix, a deep gaze as if assessing himself. Felix was uncomfortable, it was like the elf in front of him looked like he was assigning him a worth. He nodded reluctantly and began a few movements. He twirled it looked like that of the child but then Felix saw blades coming out of the elf's cuffs. It was a warrior dance Felix came to notice, as an elf should look graceful even in fighting situations. The elf in front of him looked nimble in all of his movements and in front of Felix's eyes white obstacles. The platform seemed to grow and Felix and the elf seemed to be in a white forest with large stones. He looked at the elf as he hopped from tree to tree and from stone to stone. Never breaking a sweat and keeping the same pace.

He landed in front of Felix's feet and gave him the two blades, only then did Felix see missing branches on the trees and several x markings on the stones. Felix took the blades and even though they were made out of that white material, they felt like daggers should.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

He took a deep breath as he began to run and tried to jump on stones, cutting them like he'd seen. Climbing trees and jumping to the next one, cutting branches.

None of his movements were as nimble or as quiet, the huge difference however was the skill of handling both blades.

It was also difficult to look at his surroundings when everything was white. The elf looked at him when he finished and just moved his hand as if to show, 'Do it again'.

Felix did and as if improving the second time was even worse, the elf just moved his hand again. Felix ran, he jumped, he slashed, he tried to perform those nimble movements in between and noticed that with these movements the course seemed to get easier.

He felt himself moving lighter with every try, becoming lighter. He felt as if his weight became that of a feather as he moved his feet differently, he didn't let his whole foot come on the tree or the stone. He only stood on hit with his tippy toes and didn't let his whole foot on the ground, it was also easier to move to the next location. Soon he knew his surroundings, even if it was all white and some even fog-like. Felix seemed to imagine a real forest, the white vanished and he saw the green leaves. He smelt the fresh air as he cut branches next to him almost naturally, he felt the breeze on his skin as he landed on the stone and carved an x on it. He landed in front of the elf and the other seemed to smile, Felix didn't see it directly as the elf had a scarf in front of his mouth, but his eyes were bending. He looked at the elf, as he snipped his fingers and soon it became night.

The elf then looked at Felix with a hand motion that seemed to say, 'Go ahead'.

Felix now became familiar with the whiteness of the environment again, as they seemed to vanish now that it was night. Only the moon told him where the white trees and stones would be. He went through the course of movements and actions again and fell off the first tree, his visual sight was greatly impaired now that it was night. But he didn't feel any pain, so he stood up and did it again. The new challenge was downright a nightmare to complete, but he tried it. He did it again and again and again. Felix felt like a bird that had learned how to fly to great heights, only to have their wings broken so that it had to learn to how fly again.

But one of the redeeming qualities of Felix was that he ain't a quitter, he would try and try again. Even if that meant that he didn't have a rest, even though he was exhausted. The elf that let him on this platform said he needed neither rest nor food, but for some reason, Felix felt mentally drained. Not physically tired, but mentally drained. It didn't matter to him as he continued to go through this course again and again.

Felix didn't count how long it took to finish the course without missteps or missing to cut and carve. It was only when he felt that feeling of flying again, in the middle of the night, when he felt his surroundings taking shape and looking different again that he knew he had done it. Extacy ran through his body as he completed it. Tears came out unwillingly, and the elf in front of him tapped him on his shoulder to show his approval. Then he vanished just like his surroundings, in a white hue, back into the jewel.

The border around the platform also vanished, and the elf that had brought Felix here smiled. Felix walked down the platform and he felt the hand of the elf before him they said, "You have learned all the dances from us that we could teach you, maybe in the future you will have the honor to learn dances from other elves."

Felix smiled and wanted to say a few words of thanks, but he couldn't even open his mouth as he flew into the air. He saw himself flying at a fast pace away from the elven tree and village. Before he realized anything was happening he was in the armchair again, looking at the vanishing door.

...

"That was shorter than I anticipated," Void said as he looked at Felix.

Felix who was focused on the door looked at Void, "Why did I have to learn elvish dancing?"

"The next world is in a fantasy setting, you'll be transported into an elf. AND you will be fulfilling his last wishes, I will tell you everything else when you are in your new body," Void said and Felix saw the transparent room turning into a brighter and brighter.

"Wait, what abou-" Felix tried to ask but it was too late, the room turned white and he shielded his eyes.

...

When Felix opened his eyes again, he looked at the sky. Wonderful baby blue with soft clouds, the salty and fishy smell of the ocean hit his nose. As Felix sat up he noticed the almost unbearable pain through his whole body.

'Don't move yet, I will repair your vessel. You just have to listen to the plot and after that, I'll tell you about your body, his family, and the wishes,' Void said.

Felix laid back down and waited for Void to talk.

'The continent we're in right now is called Dilofryiorn. The continent is divided into four frations, the elf fraction, the human fraction, the dwarf fraction, and the merfolk fraction. The elf fraction is called, Xorkzion. They are wood elves, living right on the cliff when you look a little to the right. It is the cliff you fell from.'

Felix moved his head just a little to the right and saw the huge stone cliff right above him, 'I doubt the original owner fell down here by himself'. He listened to Void continue.

'The human fraction built a Kingdom who are frequently exchanging goods, between all the fractions. They get wood and magic items from the elves and give them silk and different kinds of foods that don't exist in the forest they live in. They get steel and other materials from the dwarves and trade the magic items they got from the elves. They get the merfolk to ship these goods elsewhere in the world and give the merfolk a 50% profit. The Kingdom is called, Bernstein.'

Felix began to feel his legs again, which he didn't even think was missing. Maybe the adrenalin of being in a new world made him not realize.

'The dwarf fraction is like any other fraction you might know from fairytales. They love the craft of highly praised weapons. The dwarves in this continent, however, built a few helpers with the magic items from the elves through the humans. These magic items are scrolls, these scrolls can make inanimate objects come to life, but only if the creator has enough passion. Dwarves have a lot of. So they built stone, steel, and copper golems. Then they brought them to life with a scroll. Crafty little creatures. They call themselves the Steelbenders. Before you say anything, I KNOW. How can you choose such a horrible and unimaginative name as such creative creators.'

Felix smirked, there was part of the Void he met first.

'At last the merfolk, more arrogant than some elves around here. They specialize in trading all over the world, the shipment is sometimes wrapped in a waterproof material. If they are the shipment gets to the destination super fast, but most people around here just load it up on a ship. The merfolk can change between a more humanized form and their original form, but you see the gills and sometimes a few scales. Nonetheless, they don't discriminate between races. They just think they're better than anyone else, so it doesn't matter who you are they going to treat you like a piece of crap. They even treat their own race like crap. They are called, Seraphil.'

As Void finished explaining Felix could feel none of the pain from before and sat up.

'You should be all fixed up, now to the plot and your role in all of this,' Void began and sighed.

Felix could feel how much the raven just wanted his piece and quiet.
