He keeps finding me
1.1 Apocalypse

1.1 Apocalypse

With a hammering headache and pain all over his body, he woke up to the smell of rotten flesh. That smell was so pungent it brought him to memories of his father's basement, shoving those aside Felix got up. He looked around only to find that he was in a classroom. The classroom looked destroyed, chairs were lying everywhere, some of the tables were upside down and the windows were a little shattered. As he tried to stand up slowly, he noticed that his leg was wounded. Because of his beatings, or as his Father said 'training', he knew that his injury was a light stab wound. It probably came from a knife.

In his head, he called, 'Void, where am I?'. He would have felt embarrassed if he asked that out loud, so he asked in his head while imagining the annoying raven.

Luckily Void answered in a lazy tone, 'You are currently in the body of Noah Valentine, he was an orphan, and his parents both died in a terrorist attack when he was five years old. Noah didn't remember his parents, he was with his Aunt most of the time. When his parents died, his Aunt adopted him, until he was twelve years old, he lived happily with his aunt for about one year. His aunt was then diagnosed with cancer and died two years later. Noah was sent to the orphanage and had lived through abuse there. A virus broke out when Noah was at school. He is currently 17 years old. He died to his classmates sacrificing him to the zombies. Although I'm impressed, how did you figure out how to speak to me in your mind? Not that it matters.'

Noah let everything sink in, 'So now you have to tell me what his wishes were right? And I have to fulfill them, right?'

Void answered annoyed, 'Yes, I have to tell you these wishes, but it's kinda my only job. And of course, you have to fulfill them, didn't you listen to me? Or do you not want soul force? To get out of this place, full of nothingness and everythingness?' Noah stayed silent and waited for the wishes, since he knew as soon as would wanted to talk he would be interrupted again.

Void made an exaggerated sigh, 'The first wish is to survive the apocalypse and live a long life. The second is to have a real first friend and the last is to have a family again.' Void said one more thing before leaving, 'Now that you have all the information, I'll leave! I don't want to be at such a gorry scene longer than I have to.'

Noah was startled and questioned Void, 'Wait, you haven't told me about the virus yet and the apocalypse?!' Noah got no answer.

"Really?" he asked in the empty classroom and opened the door.

He thought to himself, 'He wouldn't shut up before, why did he have to now?' The hallways were empty so he walked to the right side of the hallway. As soon as he was at the end of the hallway, he saw the stairs and suddenly smelled some rotten stench. He looked to the left, where the smell came from, and saw a rotten body with a smashed skull. For Noah, it wasn't that scary, since his father, once locked him in the basement with a rotting corpse. He said it would help to build a resistance, so he could kill people better.

Noah looked away from the body and walked down the stairs. Halfway down he heard a growl and stopped walking. He poked his head around the corner of the stairs and saw a really ugly, disgusting living corpse.

Noah looked at it with indifference and thought sarcastically, 'Ohh, it's that kind of apocalypse and virus. Great (-_-)' Looking at the walking and groaning corpse he silently walked back upstairs and went into one of the empty classrooms. As he went in there, he realized that this classroom was not as empty as he thought. There was a little locker at the back of the classroom, a lot of backpacks were lying around and the teacher's desk was untouched. Before he walked in to find useful things, he shut the door and locked it, just in case.

Noah remembered the smashed-in skull, so he wanted to find a weapon to defend himself with. Starting with the locker, he opened it and found a bucket, a mop, and a broom. So nothing helpful. Next, he went through the backpacks and found a flashlight, a pocket knife, 5 Snicker bars, and closed 3 water bottles. He packed those things in one of the now empty backpacks. Noah then went through the Teacher's table and found a First-Aid Kit, with that he bandaged up his leg, not because it hurt but rather because it should not get infected with bacteria. Before he walked out of the classroom again, he listened at the door for groans and growls, only when he heard none did he unlock the door and run to the door opposite from him.

When he arrived there he quickly checked if the door was unlocked, before storming in and locking the door behind him. Turning around he found out he was at the chemical laboratory. Then he looked around the room and found a mask, safety goggles, and a white coat. When Noah looked through the cabinets he found gloves and a few acid-chemicals. Such as aqua regia, hydrochloric, and nitric acid, the three of them together can create a very dangerous acid that can dissolve someone's body.

Now he had something, that he could use against the zombies, he whistled, "That's great. Melting the Zombie's head away." Seeing some disinfectant spray, he disinfected his wound and wrapped it up again.

Noah remembered that he was not in his own body anymore, so he searched and found a mirror, in front of the classroom and looked at himself. He was surprised when he saw his emerald green eyes looking back at him. Other than that he looked completely different he had jackblack hair, soft eyebrows, and soft lips. Different from his charming self, he looked soft and weak. He nodded to himself and put on the mask and gloves, he wouldn't want to risk a biting infection from a zombie. The rest he put in his backpack except one of the mixed chemical bottles. That he put in his dark green jacket, for safety reasons.

All set he listened again at the door, when he heard no growling or groaning he unlocked the door. He silently and on high alert walked to the stairs and listened. He heard nothing, no growling, no groaning, no nothing. It really unsettled him so he walked slowly and silently the stairs down. When he was halfway down he looked over the railing of the stairs. Noah saw the zombie that was walking and making noises before, dead with his head smashed in front of the stairs. Noah thought that maybe it was another zombie and he lived in a world where those crystals were a thing, or a living and breathing person was still at school. If not, even more than one person, a whole group. He went down the stairs and stood next to the now-dead zombie. Noah squatted down and looked at the corpse, more precisely at his head. If that with the crystals is true, Noah needs to know beforehand. After all, if he has to live a long life and survive the apocalypse, he needs those crystals to get an ability or fast healing.

If not, Noah will have to find a house or building, where he can make a bunker out of the basement. With hope and luck, he will have to find a friend and a family while gathering stuff. He takes out rubber gloves and puts them on, then takes the head in his hand for further inspection. The head had a big hole on the left side. The way Noah was holding it was with the right hand in the left ear and the left in the right ear. Looking from above onto the head, the skull on the left side was broken in, and a chunk of Brain was ripped out. Further looking at it one could see that there was a little, thin hole in the brain. So if there wasn't someone who enjoyed putting a pen in the brain of a dead Zombie, one could assume that a crystal was in that place. Noah smirked stood up but left his gloves on, who knows what else he might encounter?

...

Turning around Noah inspected, the floor full of other classrooms. Noah went to the nearest classroom, only to find it locked up. Knocking on the door, he listened for voices, only to find growling. Then he turned to the opposite classroom, it was open. Looking into the room Noah found four dead rotting zombie corpses. Noah inspected these corpses, only to find their head still intact. He went to the door and locked it, with a switch inside of the doors. Going back to the corpses, he touched one of the heads with his gloved hand. It was very soft as If touching pudding. Getting his pocket knife out, he cut open the skull, separating the upper meat plus bones from the brain. Surprisingly it went through like butter, looking at the brain Noah saw about five sesame-shaped crystals around it.

The crystals were almost transparent, with a milky color. He didn't know for which ability or what it would do, but Noah thought that it would probably be useful at some point in life. So he searched through the few backpacks, to find something to store them in. And he found an empty and very clean lunchbox.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

'Good enough' he thought to himself. Putting the first five crystals in, he went to the other corpses and opened their skull. The second one had three crystals, the third one-two, and the fourth one had six crystals. He put them all in the lunchbox and then in his backpack. Done with the zombies, Noah looked through the classroom again. He saw another locker in the back of the classroom, but when he got there to open it, he found it locked. So he searched for the teacher's desk, maybe there was a key in it.

Flipping over tables he finally found the teacher's desk, searching through the cupboard he found a few graded papers, money, and a keychain with over 5 keys. Noah sighed and made his way to the locker. Using the first key, it didn't fit. The second one was too small and luckily the third fit and opened it. Thinking the keys would be useful later on, he put them in his pocket. Looking at the opened locker he found the same things as upstairs and a bat. He finally found something useful to defend himself from those zombies. Although the chemicals were useful, he also liked something for hand-to-hand combat. He placed the bat between his backpack and his back, so he could get it out without hindrance. Other than that there wasn't anything worth mentioning in the locker. He closed it and went to the door, listening to the outside again he heard voices this time.

"Are you sure we went to the right place? This looks just as locked up, as we left it," a female voice complained.

A male voice answered, "Yes, Ben said he killed about four zombies on the right side in the classroom, just before the stairs."

"Hahaha, don't forget the one next to the stairs over there," another male voice laughed.

"So this one. Right?" The female voice said and tried to open the door, that Noah was in.

Seeing that it was locked, she told the other two, "But it's locked. Are you sure Ben meant this room?"

Male voice two answered, "Wouldn't be the first time he bragged about something that never happened."

"Stop it, Zenix. That doesn't help anyone. Maybe it is just a little stuck? Let me do it," Male voice one offered.

"Right, because you're stronger than Lea. Who has a strength ability by the way," Zenix mocked.

Noah who was hiding inside the room, felt reassured that it was an apocalypse with abilities.

"Stand back, I'm going to break open the door. Since it was just like Zenix said, I have a strength ability. So Jay, you with your healing ability can stand behind me," Lea said playfully.

"Very funny," Jay said.

The next thing that happened was the door out of the frame and Noah was crouching looking right up. Two boys and one girl looked quite surprised at the crouching Noah. "Hi?" Noah said with a slight smirk on his lips. The boy, with dark blond hair color, looked at the boy with the same raven-black hair as Noah.

"You never told me you had a brother Jay and if my memory serves me correctly, he wasn't here when we put all the zombie in the rooms either," Zenix said.

Jay looked annoyed, "That's because, maybe just, maybe I don't have a brother."

Lea looked at the two boys she came with, "That still doesn't explain what he is doing here. Remember?"

Noah saw that the three before him were occupied by arguing among themselves and snuck away. Surprisingly they didn't notice, Noah just walked to the stairs the three probably came from and ran quietly down. He was on the lowest floor, he walked straight to the front doors of the school. Just as he wanted to open them he heard the three teenagers from before behind him.

"You really shouldn't do that, I mean if you have a death wish then please go out there and be destroyed by the zombies," the dark blond boy, Zenix, said. Noah turned around and looked at the three of them.

The girl, Lea, too looked at Noah, "Not to mention that you will, with high probability, get a zombie from the outside, inside."

"Listen, we think you should stay here. It would be safer for you as well as us," the black-haired dude, Jay, told him. Noah looked at them and then looked outside.

He thought to himself 'So I have the option between going out, dying from the one zombie I just saw, and possibly letting exactly that one zombie inside. OR staying here with other people my age, possibly also seeing the classmates who sacrificed the original. Then again, I don't know how many zombies are outside, and who knows how many zombies I will encounter while going further through the city. I guess I'll stay with them for a while, but I can get more information. At least more information about the situation we're in than I got from that raven. I should go with the clueless one, maybe I should fake a little memory loss so I can ask these questions easier.'

Noah immediately got in character and acted scared and stuttered, "So these corpses, they... they were zombies, like real zombies."

Zenix chuckled "Nice joke dude, this apocalypse has been around for almost two months now. Do you want to tell me you didn't know? Where the hell did you come from?" Jay and Lea also looked confused.

Noah almost cried and rambled like a frightened kat, "Two months? What do mean? Wasn't there just a test? I accidentally slept, because I studied all night, and the next second, I woke up in my classroom everything was destroyed. So I went to the chemical lab to get things, since I thought we were bombed or something. But a zombie apocalypse, like what do you do in these? What do I prepare? Can I prepare against it? Should I..."

The three teenagers looked at each other and Lea asked the other two, "Do you think he is telling the truth? I mean, honestly, the rambling and him freaking out is very convincing, but how can he not know what happened for two months?"

Jay looked seriously at the rambling boy, "I don't know either, but we will see how useful he is when we look in his backpack. He said he went to the chemical lab." Zenix smirked, "And what if he is not useful?"

Jay smiled at Zenix, "He can just be cannon fodder for the zombies."

"So are you sure I can stay here?" Noah ended the sentence.

Pulled out of their conversation Lea just said, "Sure, this is the apocalypse after all, we should stay together. By the way, you didn't tell us your name yet." Noah smiled thankfully, "Noah, my name is Noah. Nice to meet you all. And thank you for letting me stay here." Zenix shrugged his shoulders lazily, "Sure, Sure. Not me thinking you were some kind of big shot since you were acting so calm before." Noah looked away embarrassed, "Sorry, about that. You see when I am scared or have to think hard about something, I seem to do that." Zenix looked amused at Noah, "Weren't you just rambling in fright? You didn't look like it one bit when you saw us before, you know calm and collected." Noah was fidgeting and nervously said, "Well, to be honest. I'm pretty nervous, especially since that girl broke a whole door from its hinges. But you were nice and you were also very powerful, so I don't have to be scared right? It was just a bit of worry."

"Well, of course. Don't worry about it we will definitely protect you," Jay said with a warm smile. Lea showed Jay a knowing smile and went upstairs again. Zenix yawned and was going after her.

Noah looked at Jay with interest, "Is it just you three or are there other people too?"

Jay looked at Noah, "No, with us three and now you, there are about twelve people here. If you want to find them there in the classroom to the left right before the stairs. I now have to go too. See ya." He turned around and went upstairs to the others. With no one by his side, Noah went back to his usual self. He began to think, while slowly making his way to where the other six were.

Walking along the boarded-up doors, he thought to himself, 'I don't know who is the leader or the group dynamic, even if I want to say that this Jay acts like a leader, I can't just assume he is. I don't know how they did it, but one of them is strong enough to block them in the classrooms. It could be that the one who locks them up and destroys them is the same Ben person. But it could also be that the person who locked them up is another person and that only Ben is destroying them. So when Ben comes and tells them where he cleaned up, the team of three will scavenge for food and other supplies. And from what I've heard and seen, the people that have abilities are Lea with a strength ability, Jay with a healing ability, and probably Ben person with something too. Then again that would be tasks for exactly four or five people, so what about the other six or seven people? What do they do? Well, I guess I'll find out then.'

Standing in front of the door, he knocked.

From the inside came a male voice, "You are already back? And since when do you knock? Just come inside and show us the goodies." So Noah got into character and opened the door.

"Hello, I'm Noah. Jay said I could come in?" he said in a small voice and a shy tone.

An older woman stood up and shouted, "Noah Valentine, how are you alive? Didn't that girl push you into the Zombies two months ago?" Noah made big eyes, and the others in the room too. A boy with red hair even stood up and electricity was coming out of his hands.

'Ahh, electricity. He must be Ben,' Noah thought and held both hands up.
