Chapter 11

Watching the man fight Halvar was terrifying. He’d only been struck once throughout their entire fight. When Halvar opened with his mithril great sword. It being much lighter than it looks. I watched as the unknown man unleashed magic and mixed it with his combat style. I’d never seen someone fight like this before. Nor had I ever seen someone fight with a scythe. He pushed Halvar to a corner only to be the corner that he’d been pushed into. Clearly manipulating the fight to his favor. It also looked like the man didn’t want to kill Halvar but would do so if pushed. As I was about to reach out to try and stop them, I heard the sound of metal clanging against the ground. Looking in that direction the fog cleared, and the man had a blade to Halvar’s throat while standing behind him. Halvar’s hands were raised in surrender and his prized sword was laying on the ground. This man beat Halvar, the Hunt Chief of our village. Second in strength only to our Elder and by the looks of it. He could probably beat him too.

Once the Fight was truly over, I scanned the Elven man hoping to gain some insight on why he was acting like this. Okay no. That’s a lie. I just wanted data for my dungeon.

Double Ooo! Look at all those special skills. Ohh, I’m gonna have a hay day when I get back to my realm.

Realizing that I’d been staring at them for far too long I lowered my scythe. Letting the man go. I made it clear for him to leave his weapon on the ground.

“Well, Lady Evalina. Now that we have “No Harm” out of the way. Let's talk about what you guys want with me and what you can do to make it up to me. Keep in mind that, though I’m friendly right now. Your words and actions can change that.”

Realizing that the danger hadn't passed Halvar glanced at his sword. To which I gave him a death glare. Causing the man to break out in a cold sweat. Also causing the lady to force Halvar to prostrate himself in front of me in apology. She told me the same story as before. Wondering if I was truly friend or foe. Halvar simply said that he saw me as a threat and didn’t want to put any of the villagers in danger from an unknown land. He also made it clear that he still saw me as a threat even though I spared his life.

Not wanting this farce to continue any longer than it needed, I asked them to get up and explained to them that I was a forest dweller and stumbled upon Thorn when he was out on a hunt. In need of supplies Thorn showed me where I could go to trade for what I needed. After bumping into him a few times I had developed a friendship with the man and would help him if he asked for it. Then I told them that if they didn’t provoke me, I wouldn’t cause them any trouble in the future.

While I talked the young lady kept staring at me with eyes I couldn’t figure out. Nodding along with everything I was saying. She was clearly going to bother me in the future. I just knew it. Halvar on the other hand gave me a clear look of hate. Glancing at the lady a few times then back at me. Rage only growing with each passing glance. He was also going to be a problem in the future but a very different kind of problem, I’m sure.

Once I was done telling them about myself, I said, “Here’s the deal. If you want me to stay out of your village, tell me. I’ll gladly do so. It’s not like I really need anything from there anyways.”

“You’re welcome in our village.”

“Stay the hell away from us.”, they said in unison. Surprised, the other spoke and at what the other had to say.

Continuing I said, “...It just makes my life more convenient to have access to spices and things of that nature. It also makes shopping for ingredients far easier than going out and picking everything for myself. So, if you have a problem with me. Just tell me or if you don’t want to be near me tell Thorn and have him deliver the message.”

The lady spoke next, eagerly approaching me.

, “You sir are welcome in our village. I’m sure if you look hard enough, you’ll find things you didn’t even know were there. Who knows? You may even find yourself with a wife one day.”, she finished with a wink.

Replying, I said, “O…Okay…? That sounds nice, I guess. Though that’s not really why I go to the village if you were listening to me before. I just want to trade and earn some money for things I find hard to collect in the forest or produce myself. Anyways. I’m leaving now. So, good luck.”

I leapt into the air. My flight spell still active. Moving in all directions to avoid them being able to track me back to my cave. Once I was home, I decided to put off upgrading the goblins in favor of getting some sleep. I needed it after dealing with that mess. The warrior, Halvar, was his name I believe. Was fine and all easy to read and made his intentions clear right from the start and didn’t change it much. Lady Evalina on the other hand was a mess. His emotions were like a tornado or a violent sea. Constantly shifting from one place to another. Making her very difficult to understand. Throwing those thoughts to the side for now, I rested my head on my pillow and fell asleep right away.

I woke up an unknown time later to the goblin chief shaking me awake.

“My lord! My lord! You must wake up. We have a problem! We need your guidance.”, he said frantically, shaking me.

Still very sleepy from my latest ordeal I sat up, reaching for my scythe.

“What's the problem?”, I said.

“It’s lord Thorn sir. He’s here and he’s heavily injured. The shaman is tending to his wounds now but I’m not sure if he’s going to make it! We sent scouts out into the woods to see what could have happened and we found a team of Elves tracking his blood here!”, He threw his hands into the air as he said this. Wildly running in circles now that I was awake.

With all thoughts of sleep gone I rushed to where the shaman was. I found them quickly. The shaman, covered in Thorn’s blood and glowing green magic flowing from his hands over Thorn’s still body. Looking over him I saw a massive cut running from his shoulder all the way to his stomach. The wound nearly cut him in half. He also had some arrows stuck into his arms used to protect his head and in his shoulders towards his back. As if he’d been running away and his assailant shot him in the back. Another thing I noticed was that he hadn’t used any of his arrows and his daggers were still sheathed. This could possibly mean only a few things. One he was caught off guard and couldn’t find his attackers. Or more likely he knew his attackers and chose not to fight back. I had a pretty good idea of what had happened after getting a good look at his wounds. Particularly the long gash across his chest.

I saw red! Telling the shaman to keep at it I dashed out of the cave to find none other than Halvar and two other elves standing beside him. I didn’t recognize either of the elves with him, but both were clearly hunters of the village. Both look to be much stronger and more experienced than Thorn. Looking them over I saw that they had their weapons drawn, one of which was covered in blood. Halvar’s sword gleamed with the color of Thorn’s blood running down its blade. Halvar stood there with a look of crazed rage in his eyes. He was clearly looking to kill Thorn. For what reason? I didn’t know but I wouldn’t let it happen. Halvar needed to die. Tonight! And I was his lucky reaper.
