Elise stares at Yuele’s Instagram page. It’s private so she could only look at his profile photo. He’s gorgeous. Far too beautiful to only have a couple hundred followers. She wants to click the follow button but feels it’ll be too weird without asking first. She should’ve asked when they ran into each other Saturday morning.
“Is that the guy?” Elise’s friend, Nat leans it to take a peak.
“Mmhmm,” Elise nods and turns her phone screen off. “He’s so full of himself, it’s annoying.”
“Sounds like a fuck boy to me.”
Elise rests her chin on her palm and smiles at Nat. “I think there’s more to him behind what he’s showing.”
Yuna sits not too far from them. She rests her head on her arms while she listens to the conversation. Hearing Elise gush over her is giving her an ego boost she never thought possible. She’s enjoying it to no end.
“I don’t know, I get the feeling that he’s just being a dick because he’s nervous around me. I think he mentioned that, but I didn’t hear him clearly,” Elise says.
Yuna turns her head to look at Elise. The girl is too focused listening to Nat to notice. Yuna’s been thinking about ways to get close to Elise. One option is to follow her Instagram first and make the first move but that’s boring. The most fun would be getting close to her as Yuna. She’ll use the information she learns to set up one more accidental run in. But that option isn’t realistically possible. After all, there hasn’t been a moment where Yuna and Elise haven’t been enemies.
“I’m sure I’ll meet him again,” Elise sits upright. “I’ll get him to behave.”
Yuna smirks. She rips off a little piece of her notebook and crumbles it up into a ball. It’s tossed and hits Elise on the nose. “Does little Elise have a crush? How cute.”
Elise scoffs, “Says the girl who’s never had a boyfriend.”
“No one’s been good enough.”
Elise rolls her eyes when she sees Yuna say that with her eyes closed and a smirk. This is the exact reason why Elise has never liked her. Yuna thinks she’s God’s gift. It’s a miracle they went through their final year without getting into a fight. Elise still hasn’t forgiven her for getting her suspended last year. “Maybe it’s because nobody can stand you.”
“I should be the one saying that seeing you get stood up all the time.”
The sound of Elise’s screeching chair gets the attention of everyone in the classroom. Yuna sits upright a bit surprised Elise nearly jumped out of her sit. Elise feels everyone’s eyes on her which is enough to calm her down. She sits back down and sighs.
“And here I thought I finally managed to push you over the edge.”

“Graduation can’t come soon enough so I don’t have to deal with your ass anymore.”
“Likewise,” Yuna grins.
Elise’s gaze doesn’t leave Yuna when her attention is turned elsewhere. She doesn’t understand why Yuna is the way she is. When they first started middle school, Yuna was bullied for how she looked for a year. Everyone thought she was a freak for having a shaved head. That experience must have turned Yuna into the bitch she is now.
Yuna catches Elise. “You’re staring again.”
Elise pouts then looks away. Her eyes move again towards Yuna. There’s something familiar about her that Elise can’t place. Her eyes move back forward and she tries to think about anything else.

Yuna and Elise share three classes together. Their final one just so happens to be P.E. Elise always spends it on the sideline with Nat and tries to do as little as possible. Today’s no different as the class plays a game of volleyball. Elise and Nat sit along one of the walls while they watch the game together.
“Wow, look at her go,” Nat comments on a miraculous save that Yuna did.
“Don’t compliment her, it’ll just go to her head.”
“Oh, she’s not so bad.”
“It’s cause Yuna leaves you alone.”
“What did you do to make her hate you so much anyways?”
Elise pulls her legs towards her body, “Ask her and find out for me. She was a bitch to me first.”
“Maybe she has a crush on you.”
Elise laughs at the joke even though Nat was being serious. “I need to find some dirt on Yuna so I can hang it over her head. What do you know about her?”
They’ve known each other for a long time but this is the first time Elise has ever paid attention to Yuna’s personal life. The little jab that Yuna made earlier in the day truly did push Elise over the edge. Since then, Elise has been trying to find something to make fun of Yuna. She’s checked the internet but found nothing. There’s no social media presence. Yuna doesn’t belong to any certain friend group either. She floats around and hangs out with whoever she feels like that day so no one truly knows her that well.
“As much as you do,” Nat answers.
Elise turns her attention to Yuna. For a small girl, Yuna’s really athletic. She’s the only one who is actually trying. It’s a bit admirable. When Yuna wipes her sweat off with the bottom of her P.E. shirt, Elise notices just how pretty she is. She especially likes her long and jet-black hair.
“You okay?” Nat asks when she notices her best friend is violently shaking her head.
“Just fine!” Elise grits her teeth. There isn’t a world where she should have those thoughts. “I’m going to the bathroom.”
Before she can fully stand, Nat yells, “Watch out!”
Elise flinches when she notices the volleyball flying straight toward her face. Nothing happenes and confused, Elise opens her eyes just as a body tackles her against the wall or rather it runs into her. Elise can’t form a thought as she stares at Yuna who’s on top of her; nearly identical to how Yuele was. A bit of Yuna’s sweat falls on Elise while she catches her breath. Once Elise realizes what just happened, she pushes her enemy off.
“Fucking seriously?”
Yuna lands on her butt and wipes off her sweat. “You’re welcome,” she pants sarcastically.
Elise calms herself. Yuna didn’t mean to run into her and was just trying to save the ball. “At least I know now you’re not a complete bitch.”
“Ha!” Yuna gets up. “If there was a school shooter I would use your body as a meat shield. Don’t get it twisted.”
The next thing Elise sees is Yuna on the ground again and her teacher in front of her. He’s yelling at her to go to the Dean’s office. All the attention is on her again and this time she couldn’t stop herself from calming down.
Elise comes home flabbergasted and with a three-day suspension.
