Exploring Chapter #9

“Rex!” Chestor roars as his heart thumps loud enough to drown out the other members' screaming nonsense. “REX!!” He screams out as his head is turned to the side. His eyes widen, watching the dragon gather lightning to fuel the bolt between its horns as it slithered closer.

“Silence!” Rex calls out a simple noise-canceling spell to stop everyone from their frantic yelling. “Protection spells release! Phase Shift Life Support Mode!” Rex’s voice echoed as the spell was invoked, and the room began to glow with runic lines. In the center, where the orb sat on a simple pedestal, it rose into a collum while merging with the orb. “Spirit Core merge complete, protection spell activate!” Rex’s spell spread across the whole room as the noise returned.

“”Aahh!”” The party of Adventures cries out in unison as their seats all spin around before getting pulled to the center.

“We’re going to die!!” Tanner screams shrill as he faces the rear, where the oncoming dragon is visible.

“I’ve never seen a dragon that powerful!” Peter shouts as he holds on while the Raptor twists to avoid a twister lashing out at them.

“Why does it look like a snake so much?!” Syleen asks as the ship levels out a bit. “Or is it a serpent?” She wonders aloud while Tanner runs out of breath, screaming.

“Could be a Viper, maybe?” Fin joins her in pondering the giant storm serpent chasing them. “It did spit out that beam.” He shrugs before going back to observing the oncoming attacker.

“Boss?! What’s the plan?!” Davy shouts out while clutching his restraints tightly.

“I can’t see shit!” Chestor shouts while holding himself back from breaking out of the seat’s restraints. “Why am I in the front?!” He angrily shouts to his side.

“Because we need you for the land!” Lewin screams at Chestor. “I know you didn’t listen to or even read the report, so shut up and stay still!” A small cluster of circles forms before her; they twist and turn before melding into a sphere of pulsing magic. “Rex, now!” Lewin sets off the sphere as its magical light blasts outwards, engulfing the room in a thick gel of energy.

“Booster shift!” Rex called out, and the room shrunk. The walls folded into themselves, and the seats shifted once more. The center pillar was now between the seats as they all faced forward. The gel was now condensed into the small space, becoming almost solid. A wave of magical energy ran through it as the walls became opaque again.

“Brace for impact!” Rex’s voice was full of worry as only a simple sensory sent him a warning. A sudden rush of force assaulted the bodies of the passengers within the magical gel. “Life Support!” Rex yells out the spell’s activation before the damage to their bodies worsens.

The magical gel glows at a blinding level with a healing force to help strengthen their bodies to survive this impact. The work of mystical lights, spell circles, runic symbols, and more go off like fireworks all around the adventures. The strain of the intense g’s they are under starts to tax even the healing and support spells.

“Potions activate!” Rex roars out vials of colorful liquid around his Spirit Core, emptying their contents into the magically charged gel air of the room. The liquid magically flows into the bodies of the passengers, their vital increasing enough to regain consciousness.

“What happened?!” Chestor was about to freak out as he felt the rapid increase of his power.

“Calm down, you moron!” Lewin shouts from behind him. “We are in the final phase of the run! Landing!” She yells out, the gel only restricting their movements.

“What is this stuff?!” Peter freaks out from the rear seats.

“It wasn’t me!” Tanner yells to defend himself. “Whatever it is, I swear I didn’t do it!” He starts to tear up, screaming.

“Sleep.” Rex whispers in Tanner’s ear before a spell knocks the man into a peace nap.

“Rex! What is going on?!” Chestor demands answers from his seat up front.

“It’s your turn, Chestor.” The restraints on the cuffs on Chestor’s wrists unlatch. “We need you to guard the front.” Two simple shield handles took form from the wall before the man.

“I can only do that with a shield.” Chestor says while lifting his arms and rolling his shoulders to test the gel’s resistance against him.

“Grab hold of those.” Rex says as the handles light up.

“Alright, but I’m telling you, it won’t… huh?” Chestor’s face went blank for a second as his hands gripped the handles before him. His energy easily flowed into a shield he couldn’t see. “What is this?!” He yells out in disbelief but strengthens his skill usage.

“These are attached to the large dome shielding at the nose of the ship, Chestor. We hope your skill can help us avoid a lethal crash landing.” Rex chuckles as he appears in a small bubble form by Chestor.

“I can’t use my skill that long!” Chestor yells out. “Not to mention the cooldown time!” He yells at the glowing Rex bubble.

“It won’t be that long, hold on tight!” Rex pops his bubble form as a strong impact rockets the craft forward at incredible speeds.

“”AAA!!”” The collective screams last a moment as Chestor's skill activates. His glowing skill energies flood the gel space as extreme forces are absorbed and redirected into an explosive outcome. Bright magical lights flare up as the remaining power is used to activate the last spells.

The Raptor has lost its bird-like overlay, now, the speeding aircraft resembles a flying bolt of magical metal. A sleeker and slender form compared to the larger bird of prey. It shot through the storms like a needle piecing cloth.

A thunderous roar tore through the winds as the dragon absorbed the remaining energy from the storm clouds. The bolt between its horns condensed into a sphere as a high-pitched shriek filled the world. Coming to a halt, the mighty dragon reared its head up high, the lightning ball shot straight up into the sky.

“What in the hell-” Tim’s cockpit shifted from the front of the craft to the very rear, he was slightly confused for a moment at the dragon’s attempt. He catches its eyes, watching him, with a smirk almost. “Shit!” His eyes traced a slender lightning beam from the horns up to the clouds. “Booster, engage!” Tim yells out as a magical item springs into life before him.

The magical engine explodes into action as the Raptor craft rockets off, trying to escape the snake’s attack. Tim struggles to hold on due to the intense forces against his body, even with the new support gel system they developed for this.

“That damned lizard!” Tim shouts out in anger as he watches the skies above begin to brighten. “I was hoping to avoid this!” His hands glow with a red hue as his chair turns around to face the front again. “Turbo!” Tim screams as he touches the spell circles, a deafening boom erupts, the shockwave knocking him out.
