Exploring Chapter #10

Exploring Chapter #10

““Retreat!”” The Hornet pilots scream over the comms as their crafts buzz away from the Leviathan. “”Run!!”” They were covering the fleet's rear when they all felt something from their ships yelling to run away. Something drove them to pull off a hasty move.

“Grab them and go!” The Hornet Leader orders over the buzzing comms.

““Sir, yes, sir!”” They respond as one unit. Their airships’ Spirit-Overlay burns brighter as the forms slowly solidify. Swarming over the slower naval vessels, they dig their many clawed legs into the decks of the ships. Slowly, they lift the boats out of the water as their speed increases.

“Get them to safety!” The leader orders as the smaller ships take off with help. He switches to a different comm channel. “Carrier! EVAC! EVAC!” He shouts in the comm; the response is instantaneous. In the middle of the empty deck, a craft appears from a magical circle with crew members flashing aboard. Hornet Leader spent no time as he came in hard, the craft’s long legs locking the escape pod in.

“Hol-Shit!” A response from the escape pod was cut off as the Hornet took off without warning. The safety dome and life support spells flare into action as they speed away from the slow-moving ship. “What’s the hurry?! The Leviathan isn’t a threat!” The person on comms from the escape pod yells out. “I ord-” The leader cuts the comm off before switching channels.

“Hornet Leader to All! Run!” The leader shouts before hanging up the comm.

“Sir! We’re going to overheat her!” The co-pilot yells over the noisy engine.

“At least we’ll be alive!” The leader turns and gives him a severe look. “Punch it!” He screams at the younger co-pilot.

“Sir!” The co-pilot turns toward the controls before throwing some switches and knobs. “Past redline, sir!” He shouts as the Hornet picks up the pace.

“Brace!” The Hornet Leader shouts over the open comms, silencing all the chattering. “Brace! Attack incoming!” His hectic call-outs grew louder with fright.

“Captain! Look!” The helmsman from the observatory ship shouts while pointing towards the StormWall.

“Look at what-” The airship captain, who had long since landed on the carrier, was aboard the escape pod with the Seer Orb. “My gods…” He turns to his sailor, only to be stunned into silence at the sight.

“That! Can’t be real… right, sir?” The sailor chuckles as the StormWall lightning illuminates its interior, as it gathers towards a being from legend.

“Is that a-” The captain lifts the Seer Orb to his eye level to use the device to get a better look. A blinding light bursts forth in a tight beam from within the StormWall. The beam is briefly stopped by the glowing magical barrier of the StormWall before tearing on through with seer power.

The beam of pure energy moves; it sweeps the ocean, evaporating everything in its wake. Even a Leviathan was bisected by the beam as if it were nothing. Its path of destruction made its way towards the fleeing fleet.

“Fu-” The sailor could only watch with wide eyes as the swiftly approaching beam bore down on their helpless souls.

A deep booming bass thumped aloud as the massive beam attack swept across a large glowing magical shield blocking the backs of the retreating fleet. The cries of several mages from the deck of the Battleship went out as they burst into flames from the rebound. Several Hornets did not move quickly enough and were vaporized in the beam.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

The beam faded away as the attack ended, the ocean's waters rushing to fill the gap left behind. Winds from StormWall scream as the barrier slowly reforms from the beam attack. As the chaotic noise from the destruction fills the world, a bone-chilling roar of victory calls from inside the StormWall.

“FUCK!” The captain screams while holding the Seer Orb aloft, but the magical item is still broadcasting the whole time he uses it. “Wha kind of da-dragon can do that?!” He screams out, and the brief glimpse of the dark storm dragon he saw sends shivers down his spine.

“Calm down, sir.” The sailor laughs out with dead eyes while chugging from a flask. “I’d be more worried about what pissed it off enough it needed that beam.” He points at the StormWall before taking another drink, but the flask is empty.

“Oh, we all know who.” Percy from the carrier crew speaks up from behind the captain. He puts a calming hand on the man’s shoulder. “May I, sir?” He motions for the Seer Orb; the captain nods and hands it over. “Thank you, sir.” Percy taps a few spots on the orb before it begins to float.

“How did yo-” The captain begins to inquire before seeing Percy shake his head no.

“The StormWall barrier is still open, so I’m hoping to get- Got it!” Percy shouts triumphantly, just as the dragon inside the StormWall flares up with lightning once more before it dashes deeper into the storms.

“Is it attacking?!” Another sailor shouts in fear.

“What do we do?!” The drunk sailor yells out.

“Watch!” Percy shouts over them as he slams a glowing palm onto the crystal ball. A holographic screen appears above the sphere as the view of a slithering dragon covered in lightning strikes. “Fuck me…” He mutters as the group of rescuees freaks out even more.

“Wait!” The captain cries out, silencing the sailors. “Is this the live feed?!” He asks Percy.

“We only have it until the barrier closes!” Percy says as he watches Tim turn around and activate a spell on the arrow form of the airship. “No way…” He stares in disbelief as the sight of time, and his pilot cabin disappear. The view blurs until a bright blue sunny sky peaks out before the darkness of earth takes up the view. “What happened!?” Percy yells as the StormWall barrier finishes closing up.

“Did they make it?! Was it recording!?” The captain ran over to Percy as he was fiddling with the magical device.

“I don’t know!” He yells back while frantically working on the device. “Nicky! I’m coming over to review that data.” He says while staring into the orb before tossing it to the captain. “I need to hurry back…” Percy mutters before finding a seat on the escape pod.

“How can a creature like that exist?!” Nicolas shouts out while magically flipping through a massive amount of floating books surrounding himself. “Have you ever-” He began to ask Yue.

“No, never.” She gave him a hard, serious look. “That power… is beyond mortals.” Her statement confirmed what the watching world thought: that was no mortal creature. “Even dragons of legend from our land do not have That kind of power, not even our immortals.” Yue says while fanning herself.

“The dragons I know and those I fought have never been that massive or a fraction that powerful, either. Hells! The beast tore through the StormWall on its own!” Nicolas yells as he waves the books away. His can taps loudly on the fall as he paces around the room. “Why did it even attack us in the first place?! What did we do to… Shit! It must be territorial!” Nicolas rants as he scribbles something down in his notes.

“Ya mean we literally woke a sleeping dragon?” Jack tries to joke as he hobbles back into the room. “They survive?” He asks with a serious tone as the tray of candles floats to the center of the room.

“For now.” Yue sighs as the signal from the Seer Orb reconnects to a live feed. “Wha- How?” She says in surprise.

“What is, oh!” Nicolas turns back to watch the feed before his face drops. “Oh no, not that spell!” He cries out in worry.

“What ye whining ab- huh??” Jack stupidly stares at the feed as it changes too fast before cutting off. “Did I see blue sky?” Jack asks in a quiet voice, with a small tear in his good eye.
