Exploring Chapter #4

“Admiral! Sensors are picking up movement below the carrier!” An officer sitting at a console with a pulsating screen yells out on the command bridge of the largest battleship of the Trinity Fleet. “Deep creatures are rising to the surface!” She shouts after confirming the readings on screen.

“Release the Ice Field Spell! Launch the Adventure Raid teams!” The Admiral commands from his chair as magical screens relay essential data to him. Pushing a button on his armrest, his voice echoes across the whole ship. “Crew, the enemies are below us. I hope you all are ready. Show the world the might of our battleship, Goliath.” With his speech over, the crew members let out a deafening battle cry, one so loud even the bridge could hear it.

On the deck of the Goliath, a towering pylon of various magical elements pulsates with glowing energy. Colorful, hazy wisps of magical energies are funneled into the large crystal core at the structure's tip from a group of mages encircling the base. The impossibly inhuman tones coming from the mouths of the mages almost sound like music. Upon completion of their spells, a wave of magical light surged from their bodies into the waiting pylon.

“Healers! Bring the mages to the infirmary!” A crew member shouts out while rushing to the collapsing mages around the pylon. “Take it easy, sir! You have done well!” The crew member says to a mage shivering on the deck, and he forces a glowing light blue potion bottle into the mage’s twitching mouth. “We got you!” He waves a healer carrying a stretcher over.

“For Celestia…” The mage says before passing out. The magical potion helps calm their magical rebound symptoms.

“Passionate bunch…” One of the healers sighs while helping an unconscious mage onto a stretcher. “But did they all have to go overboard with the spells?” The other healers just sigh and shake their heads while removing the past-out magic users from the ship’s deck. Once clear, a large group of armed and armored Adventures gathers around the magical pylon.

“Ice Field Spell Release!” A voice announces as the glowing light in the pylon sends a significant towering spike of magical blue light into the air before it snaps back towards the pylon. The rush of magical blue light permeates through the ship's hull before getting released like steam into the ocean. Within seconds, the ocean’s waves freeze for a mile around into solid ice.

“Ice Resistance Spells Release!” The same voice from the pylon calls out as dark blue bubbles of energy form around each Adventure on the ship’s deck. It shrinks into a thin, hazy film around their bodies, conforming to even their weapons and armor pieces.

“Tether yourself to the railing, and charge Raid Squad!” A fully armored adventure yells out while grabbing a magical tethering hook and attaching it to his belt before jumping over the railing. His armored feet, coated with the magical support spell, let him slide down the frozen waves. Adventures follow his lead as the icy field rumbles and shakes a bit. A few cracks begin to form, and the attackers below struggle against the thick magical ice sheet.

“We have a swarm of Krackens chewing through the ice flooring!” A female adventurer in padded armor yells, her hands gripping her long stave tightly. Bright red and orange magical flames spring to lift on the weapons around her. “Their weakness is fire, and they taste great grilled!” She shouts out to the laughter of her party while they maneuver around the growing cracks in the ice.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

Giant man-size squids with inky black bodies and bright golden beaks for mouths were breaking through to the surface. They only have six large tentacles with one huge red eye in the center of their elongated heads. The suckers on their limbs helped them move around the ice field, yet the Adventures could walk around as if it was solid ground. Fire spells or enchanted weapons blazing with flames cut down the climbing monsters, but they only grew in numbers.

“Shit! Swarms!” A co-pilot shouts over the comms while scanning the area for threats.

“Where?!” The pilot yells back.

“Krackens enmass around the Goliath!” The Hornet’s co-pilot reports.

“Just around the ship?!” The pilot asks while making flight adjustments to the airship.

“Yes!” The co-pilot points at the Adventures getting pushed back towards the battleship.

“Switching to MAV.” The pilot says while flipping a switch on his controls. The view of the cockpit changes as a screen of magical transparent energy covers the glass. As they watch through the magical screen, colors of magical magnitudes, shades, and such appear as an overlay. “Damnit! Goliath, Hornet 3! Leviathan incoming! Brace!” The pilot screams out while the co-pilot reaches out to the others on comm.

“Leviathan breach at Goliath’s position, Hornets, Swarm! Take it down!” The co-pilot yells out over the comms to the reach of the Hornet airships.

“Hornet 3, Tower.” Someone calls over comms.

“Tower, Hornet 3. Go ahead.” The pilot clicks the comms.

“Raptor is dropping. Clear the skies.” They end the comm link after stating this.

“Of course he is…” The pilot chuckles at something before opening a new comm link to the Hornets. “Small change of plans, boys. We need to hug the ice before ambushing our target.” He says with a hint of amusement.

“Why the hells do we have to do something that risky?!” Another Hornet’s pilot yells back over the comms.

“Raptor is about to drop, and I don’t want to be anywhere near that monstrosity when it takes flight!” He lets out a laugh as his co-pilot joins him. “You all know who’s piloting that thing, right?” He laughs at his joke while taking his airship closer to the ice field, opening up the sky under the carrier.

“The safer way it is.” The angry Hornet pilot agrees before closing the comm link. All the Hornets dove to stay low over the iced-over ocean, heading towards the location the Leviathan might use to breach the surface.

“Engaging Spirit Overlay!” The pilots exchanged one look before they both hit a magical gem to release the spell. Around the exterior of their airship, a build-up of magical energy morphs into the shape of a humongous monster resembling a living Hornet.

“Loading Stinger!” The co-pilot shouts while rapidly hitting switches and buttons. Magical energy begins to condense and form around a long, thick metal bolt at the back of the airship.

“Target sighted! Hornet 3, engaging!” The pilot enthusiastically yells over comms as he steers the airship towards a massive shelled creature breaking through the icy surface.
