Exploring Chapter #14

“Turbo!” Tim shouts as he jerks awake. “Huh-AAH!” He screams in pain as his mind tries to gather what is happening. “Re-Gah! Fu-... Rex?!” Tim manages to call out despite the searing pain coursing through both his arms. “Shit…” He spits out a wad of bloody saliva.

His seat shakes and jitters, bumping his injuries around. After a few moments of trying to catch his breath, he finally sees the poor state of his broken and shattered limbs. Something went wrong with one of the protection spells, causing the breaks to stay within his skin.

“Huh, didn’t bleed out-guh!” He chuckles in pain as his shattered bones send the horrible remainder to his brain; something is very wrong with his body. “Emergency kit… this will hurt!” Tim softly chants the release spell as a round device in the center of his harness glows before extending out a bit. With a short cry, he slams his body against the wrecked paneling before him, and the injector activates.

“Fuck me!” Tim shouts in pain as a giant medical needle stabs deep into his chest and pumps a premium potion directly into his system. The round button pops out of the harness after it's complete. “Ah-” His body bursts into golden flames as popping and cracking noises fill the silent space. The magical healing flames spread past his waist, reattaching his lower spine.

“Legs! Gah!” Being woken up by the pain of his legs reconnecting sobers him up almost immediately. “How did I surv- Scratch that…” Tim glances over to his side; only a few wires and what appear to be vines are currently holding him aloft. “How do I survive?” He powers through the pain of his knees knitting back together.

“Nicolas… You lying bas-AH!-Satard!” Tim cries out as his feet snap back into place, and a shooting white noise of pain vibrates throughout his body. “You forgot to load the pain reliever.” He pants, waiting for the feeling to fad some. “Where am-!” The words fall from his mouth as his body drops a few inches suddenly.

Looking above himself, Tim spots the few strands of wire and vine holding him start to fray. Without making any sudden moves, primarily due to the searing pain still lingering, he reaches behind his back. A pair of knives appear in his hands, and he nearly screams as he attempts to grip them tightly.

“Damn it!” Tim gives up and screams out with pain and rage. He powers through the burning sensation in his arms as he lifts the knives before plunging them deep into the rocky wall. “Ga-” A snapping sound cuts him off as he uses every ounce of his will to hold on.

“Wait… No crash soun-” Tim’s curiosity momentarily overrides his pain, making him look down. “Oh.” He softly states as his eyes go wide at the unbelievable drop below. “Too high…” He gulps as fear kicks his survival instinct into high gear. “You made it this far; don’t let a little fall kill you now.” Tim gave himself a little pep talk.

Grunting in pain, he starts to kick the side of his foot against the sleek cliff wall. One of the daggers pops out as he gets frustrated with his boots. Calming himself, Tim firmly places the dagger deeper into the cliff, tugging on both to check for stability.

“Alright, once more. I just need a few seconds…” Tim goes back to twisting his feet around at an angle while kicking the wall, and finally, the bottom of his shoes lights up. “Yes!” He cries out with hope as he pulls his knees up to his chest. “Work!” He shouts out as his soles touch the smooth cliff face.

With tense breathing, Tim eases up his hold on his knives. With a satisfied smile, he quickly lets go of the blades. The magical energy of the boots is rooting him to the wall, just like Peter’s unique martial arts movement.

“Come on, com- yes!” Tim shouts as he fiddles with his belt buckle. “Thank you for not breaking.” Undoing the casing protecting a compressed device, he sends a quick pulse of magical energy from his hands into a dim mana stone. A small bundle of cloth inflates with a puff of wind magic, and the enlarged balloon quickly shoots upward. A thin rope ties the rising balloon to a tiny, mysterious-looking winch device in the belt buckle.

“Just need to find a ledge.” Tim pulls out the daggers as he takes a long step up the wall, and the balloon slightly drags him on. “I can’t believe this is working.” He lets out a chuckle as his pace starts to increase. The higher he climbs, the more his worry climbs as well. “How much further?!” Tim screams out as he digs a dagger into the cliff, doing his best to climb quickly before his shoes run out of energy.

“Shit!” Tim slips as one of his soles loses grip on the cliff. Luckily, the balloon helps pull him close enough to the wall to dig his blade in. “Just a bit longer, come on.” He urges the spell to last longer. Taking a deep breath, he begins his climb at a steadier pace. “Just keep climbing, just keep-” A shrill siren blasts below his position, the loud wailing tone of a warning call. “Seriously?! Now what?!” He yells into the wind as it seems to change directions.

Thick clouds hug the smooth sides of the impossibly sleek cliff walls Tim dangles from. Thankfully, they obscured the terrifying view of how high up he was. Another warning wail calls out closer to his position. Tim turns his head to watch the clouds below bulge as a colossal figure comes flying through it.

“You have got to be shi-!” Tim screams in disbelief as his other boot slips due to power loss. “Oh, come on!” He shouts out in frustration as he clings onto the daggers for dear life. A loaming shadow blocks the sunlight as the flying figure hovers in the sky, observing him. “Please be friendly…” He sighs as his boots power off, the magic spell spent and broken. Struggling to hold himself with one hand, he tries to wave at the figure before regripping the blade. “Help!” He screams at the top of his lungs.
