Nissa soon became aware that something was amiss about these men. They didn’t smell entirely human, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. When one man, named Caleb, began talking to Hattie, Nissa could sense her friend growing more and more anxious. “I love the smell of cedar and... what is that? Cinnamon?” Nissa glanced up at Hattie and suddenly it all clicked - this group of men were vampires.
Nissa had only encountered vampires a few times before, as they typically kept to themselves in small villages. She surmised that this particular clan must have come from Bleakmouth, a charming village she had once visited when she first arrived on the mainland. However, it had only taken a year for the vampires to destroy the once-beautiful village and its inhabitants.
Nissa couldn’t help but think back to her visit to Bleakmouth. All that remained of the winding streets, bustling markets, and friendly people were vague memories.. The village had been left in ruins, with crumbling buildings and overgrown gardens reclaiming what was once their own.
The silence was deafening, broken only by the creaking of wood and the rustling of leaves in the wind. The village hall, once the centerpiece of the community, now lay in ruins, inhabited only by birds, cats, and rodents.
Nissa felt a twinge of sadness as she remembered the village’s former self, but she knew that there was no way to restore what had been lost. The vampires had taken everything, leaving behind only a shell of what was once been a thriving community.
Nissa came back to reality and saw the vampires had caused destruction. She could feel Hattie’s fear growing and knew she had to act fast. Nissa put on a brave face and spoke up, “So, what brings you, gentlemen, to these parts?” The vampires looked at each other before Idris spoke up. “We are just passing through. But we couldn’t resist the scent of witches’ blood.” Nissa’s heart raced as she knew they were talking about Hattie.
Nissa realized she was in a dangerous situation. She knew vampires were experts in identifying blood types and that her attempts at seduction would not work on them. As she sat at the table with them in the crowded tavern, she felt a shiver run down her spine as Idris turned to her and said, “And you, pretty lady. Beautiful looks, charmer, soft talker, pink hue to your skin.... your blood is with a hint of salt fragrance. You must be.... hmm... a siren.”

Nissa’s heart sank as she realized the vampires had identified her as a siren, a creature known for their seductive powers and ability to lure men to their deaths. She knew she had to act fast before the situation got out of hand.
Nissa lifted her head from her drink, feeling a bit uneasy about the situation. “I agree with Hattie. It’s not often that vampires like yourselves come and sit with us. What brings you here?” she asked, trying to remain calm.
Idris chuckled, revealing his sharp fangs. “We couldn’t help but notice the two lovely ladies sitting here all alone. We’re just looking for a bit of entertainment,” he replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Nissa could feel her stomach turn at Idris’s words. She knew these vampires were not to be trusted, and she could sense their predatory nature. “I’m sorry, but we’re not interested in meeting new people,” she said firmly, her hand moving under the table to grip Hattie’s hand tightly.
Idris and his companions didn’t seem deterred by Nissa’s words. “Come on, ladies. Don’t be so uptight. We just want to have a little fun,” one of them said with a smirk.
Nissa could feel her heart pounding in her chest. She knew vampires had a dangerous reputation for being seductive and lethal. She glanced over at Hattie, who had a determined look in her eye.
“We’re not interested in your kind of entertainment,” Hattie retorted, her voice firm.
Nissa’s mind raced as she tried to come up with a plan. She knew they couldn’t take on a group of vampires in a fight, but she also didn’t want to be lured into their trap. She glanced at Hattie, and they exchanged a look of understanding.
“We were just about to head out,” Hattie said, standing up from the table. “It was nice to meet you, but we have to go.”
Idris narrowed his eyes at them, sensing their reluctance. “Well, maybe we’ll see you around then,” he said, getting up from his seat. The other vampires followed suit and made their way out of the tavern, leaving Nissa and Hattie feeling relieved.
Idris and his companions looked disappointed as they walked out of the tavern. Nissa let out a sigh of relief and looked over at Hattie. “I don’t think we should stick around here for much longer,” she said, sensing that danger could still lurk around the corner. Hattie nodded in agreement and the two quickly finished their drinks and made their way out of the tavern, keeping a close eye on their surroundings as they left.
