Who is there?

After locking up Jack made his way back to the control room, looking around the room it was much more eerie knowing there was no one else around. Moving into the control room Jack parked himself right into a swivel chair, allowing his leg a bit of rest and a moment to survey his path that he will take for his first walk around the compound for the evening. Looking down at the screen in front of himself he could see that all doors around the compound glowed red for locked as that was expected knowing that all other guards had made sure the building was secure before his official clock in for the evening. Looking outside the small window off to his right he could see that the sun was finishing its decent allowing the blanket of darkness to fully encapsulate the compound. Focusing back onto his screen Jack found himself flicking through the cameras, each camera had a motion detection which would be flagged up in his screen if motion were detected where it did not belong. This allowed Jack to ensure that all other cars in the parking lot had been moved besides his own. Looking down at his watch the time of 21:15 displayed nice and easily on his digital watch, sighing jack figured now was as good of a time as any to make his first rounds, he figured with the scale of the building that a good pace and proper inspection would take about an hour to do a full circuit unless something was flagged on his phone.

Earlier that day Jamie had shown Jack how to synchronize up his phone to both the Wi-Fi as well as the computer network to get live updates if there was a breach on one of the doors this allowed for a faster response time over not getting the information till returning for the walk.

Knowing that Jack triple checked that all gear was properly secure before getting up and moving towards the enclosed catwalk that was the main access point for the security personnel to go to and from the building. The walk was a quick one as it was only just down the hall, though once jack reached the double doors, he could see what looked like to be scratch marks on the windows leading into the building, not thinking much of it as general wear and tear happens to all buildings and complexes it was what it was. Taking his card out from his pocked he sent it over the reader sending out a loud though short buzz before unlocking the door and allowing Jack to grab the door and pull it open. A bit heavier than he was used to but hey I guess its another reason they require physically fit individuals to work here.

Swinging the door open Jack walked into the top inner catwalk of the building, being at about three stories high for this level he could see the complex as a vast series of catwalks along this floor while the first and second floor heights just being Shelves filled with all manner of knickknacks and junk. Just from his vantage point he could make out toilets to kids toys in huge totes to what looked like to be small, imported vehicles all stacked in what ever place seemed to fit. Hundreds if not thousands of shelved all creating a sort of maze-like structure down there. Taking his eyes off the huge vast open space he could see that not the whole warehouse was lit up only the top catwalks had just enough light to ensure jack did not trip due to lack of lighting but not enough to stop all shadows from emerging form all the different angles. Sighing as it was probably the company trying to cut costs and could you blame them? this place was massive; it would cost a small fortune just to light this place during working hours much less during the evening when only one person would be here.

Finding himself heading towards the metal catwalk stairwell that was attached to the side of the building jacks’ footsteps could be heard as he walked *Clank, Thunk, Clank, Thunk*

Slowly he made his way down the staircase still amazed at the whole sight, this company must have had several kinds of contracts considering the expensive brand names he recognized as well as many other ones he had never heard of before. Finding himself at the bottom step it was like a slight haze of a fog appeared, finding that to be rather odd but not impossible due to the possible dampness as well as the vast openness of the area but still not comforting since he hadn’t seen it from above though could just be a localized thing it wasn’t even that bad of a haze either he could still see far into the distance it just made things not as easy to make out.

Figuring he would just inform the Captain of this and inquire on if this was a normal occurrence or if there was an issue with the HVAC system in the building. Picking a direction Jack began his walk through the complex, following nicely laid out safety yellow lines to ensure people stayed out of the way of forklifts as they made their own way around the complex. This allowed jack to keep and eye on the surroundings but also allow for easier navigation as on the floor were numbers helping locate the exact location that one was in around the building.

Just as jack was passing by a shelving area that was closer to the normal walking path then all other, he heard a loud *Crash* spinning around jack called out “Hey! This is security show yourself!” Firmly saying as he moved his body around the corner to look and see what had fallen, on the ground just a dozen paces ahead was a statue of some kind though no one else in site. Figuring it was one of the workers not safely storing the statue he figured he would make a note of it but would make sure that non of the statue was broken. Walking over to it he noticed that it was one of the angelic statues that you would find at an old church, well sculpted though years of age had changed its features into what looked like an angry scowl. Why anyone would own a statue like that was there own issue, but it was why they were storing it. Checking to make sure it was all good he stood the statue back up into its standing position, before making sure nothing was out of the ordinary being as Jack was only into his first hour figuring he would have made it much further by now and miss judging the distance traveled so far it would take him hours to make his way around the complex. Thinking on this jack would travel a little further but he would turn around and check the other direction before heading back to the control room for a break and to check the more in-depth computer logs. As Jack turned around the shelves, he heard a loud grinding noise as if someone were dragging stone behind him. Whipping himself back around the corner he found that same statue though it was several paces from where he had just put it but a few minutes ago. Confused and annoyed he once again called out “This is security, if anyone is there, please come forward.” Once again Jack received no word of another person, sighing slightly to himself jack moved the statue once again back into place. No matter how creepy that was he could not let this place get to him, maybe it was just being up all day as well as now starting the evening shift. Doing night watch was always a drag in the army as night and lack of sleep could make a man see some crazy things.

Once the statue was in place again instead of turning around and walking away jack watched the statue he new it was crazy and stupid but it made him feel better that he wasn’t going crazy or at least was maybe a little tired but things you have to do for your new workplace, also considering tonight meant overtime it made jack smile all together double time was always good in jacks books. So, he walked backwards all the way until he was a good 50 meters away from where the statue was seeing and hearing no movement jack turned around and started walking. Not more then a second passed before the grinding noise could be heard again though fainter pausing Jack slowly turned around to see the statue looking at him from around the shelving unit as if to be watching the man. Staring him right into his soul was a mixture of confusion and slight anger that someone was fucking with him on his first night in, “Okay guys very funny, sure bug the new guy I get it! You can come out now and ill even put back the angel so do not worry you will not have to strain yourselves” jack finished sarcastically before moving back towards the eerie statue once again moving the statue back into its spot. Looking at his watch if he started back now it would be around 23:00 back to the stair well from there he could head back to the control room and start writing up a report. He would have thought it unprofessional to have such hazing rights in such a company but to damage products to do so he would have a conversation with the Captain about this in the morning. Once again figuring these hooligans were watching him, he would look at the statue till he was a good distance out the turn and wait for the grinding to get closer to catch these people since truly little places to hide in the two birth wide forklift pathways. Moving to the spot he last was located jack moved once again to turn around. Letting himself hear the grinding noises which were distant at first but slowly growing closer.

Honestly, jack thought to himself these people must be strong as it was not super heavy, but a huge block of stone would take it out of a person to have to drag it over 100 meters in a single go as well as to make no noise other than the grinding on the floor. Thinking the grinding was close enough jack whipped around again to see the statue just sitting there 20 feet from himself with no movement whatsoever. This honestly freaked jack out a little, where are the idiots pushing the thing, he saw no movement whatsoever non when he turned around now this thing was so close to him. Shaking his head its just the lack of sleep because there is no way that this is real. Moving his head to look away then turned back to see that the statue had moved again but its arms had moved into a more outstretched manner from how they were originally sitting before.

Jack could not lie to himself anymore he was fairly freaked out; this was not something he expected and how was it possible a statue moved on its own much less moved its state. It cannot just reshape stone like that! Breathing heavier now jack took several steps back as he pulled his side arm. Jack had been in combat before but that was against humans what the hell was this thing! Making sure to keep his eye on the statue he slowly made his way back to the stairwell it would be a long walk and an exhausting one but damn all hell he would do it.

As the minutes passed the statue eventually disappeared, when that happened, he could hear a grinding noise slow and often deliberate to stay out of his sight. It almost felt like he was being hunted. Keeping his pace even and ensuring that he had steady footsteps he could see the stairwell it was about 100 meters out, though when he turned his head back, he could make out several grinding sounds as if there were multiple of what ever those things were out there one of them was coming now from behind him which was located by the staircase. Turning around Jack saw a statue it had a manic grin on its face with its arms stretched out as if trying to inch as close as possible to grab onto him.

Since jack had never put away his side arm he figured well if this was the time to pull his gun and fire now was the time cause fuck this shit. Lining up his shot he did a quick burst of two the first striking center mass while the other was slightly off due to the recoil of the first. What was surprising was the flood of what felt ethereal waves that burst out from the creature and wrapped itself around him. Not allowing the other creature to get too close he spun and spotted the first creature statue thing followed by two others lining up his shots he fired again this time one round into each creature. Watching as the spray of rocks and what looked to be a clear white-Ish fluid that seemed to seep out of the holes that he had hit. All three fell backwards what he hoped was that they were dying or dead.

Shortly after just like the first a blast of ethereal energy surged towards jack and just then something popped into his vision one that he had truly no explanation for.

“What the fuck am I even looking at, Fuck why am I not even moving.” Focusing back on the present Jack rushed for the stairwell.
