Dungeon Of the Liminal
The price of currency

The price of currency

Looking at it was something Jack had not expected to see, it looked like a pawn shop straight out of one of the bigger more sketchy sides of the city seeing this Jack took a step inside.

Congratulations Play Jack Rickson for finding your first safe/trading zone. You can not be attacked or attack anyone inside of this place.

“Honestly that’s pretty good to hear honestly” Sighing in relief as the one thing this system was, is truthful. So, Jack figured he might as well trust the system up onto a point, what struck him as odd wasn’t that it was a safe zone which mind you is strange for a dungeon that seems hell bent on being here to kill you, but seeing as how it said trade zone was this a place for other ‘players’ to hangout and rest? Or is it a place like shops where they would have as his friend Marcus would always bother him about selling loot to get more loot to progress. Trusting in his old friend to not steer him wrong here Jack went in search of said ‘merchant’.

Looking around the shop it looked like your average pawn shop at a glance, but seeing as the more he looked the more he saw things like swords and axe’s as well as floating gems with a haze radiating different things like a cold chill or an Infernos heat. Finding his way around towards the rear of the store Jack found himself at a counter with a desk bell and a sign that said ring for assistance beside it.

Seeing as no other option Jack rang the bell, not only was it loud but a blast of ethereal energy wafted out from the bell almost like a slower shockwave. As soon as the wave disappeared Jack noticed a door swing open to his left as a man walked in. No that wasn’t quite right it looked to be a man, but his dress looked more like an Arabian merchant with long richly flowing robes that seemed to sparkle and shine, glancing up at his face Jack stepped back in recognition he looked like the man on the coinage. At the very least he was the same species as the man on the coinage.

Taking a step forward to face the man once again he turned and smiled towards Jack.

“Ahhh a customer it has been a long time since I have seen one of your kind in my humble place, Ah Sorry I believe introductions are in order my name is Tokhta Gughlug the 5th but all my friends call me Tokhta.” The man finished with a friendly smile reserved for those who worked in retail to understand. What surprised Jack more was the mans accent it sounded Australian which was weird just hearing the accent in such a place as this. “What brings you to my humble shop today?”

Slightly stunned at both the man in front of him, though at the lull in conversation Jack Spoke up “Ahh yes well… Uhhhh what exactly do you sell?” Caught off for sure Jack could only come up with a very half-hearted response.

The man looked down at Jack since he was slightly raised at behind the country the man quirked his eyebrows at him. “Well, my good customer we sell many things here in my humble shop would you like me to list everything, or do you have an idea of items you are looking for this evening?”

Speaking quickly Jack asked “Do you sell a way out of this place? And if not do you sell something that could help me survive down here?”

At this response Tokhta relied in a cheery tone “Ahhh A way out of my shop that is but an easy thing to do all you have to do is leave though the doors you entered, though I only jest I believe you meant to ask out of the dungeon then?” Seeing Jack nod his head in affirmation Tokhta continued his spiel “Yes well I can not sell you a way out of the dungeon that would be breaking the rules and before you ask, I can’t inform you no matter how much you offer you must just accept the fact that only you can get yourself out of here.” Taking a deep breath Tokhta continued “As for your second request that is rather a broad spectrum, at your level almost all things could be used to help you survive one way or another. Though you have so little income at this stage in the game that it will hinder you in many ways. Though if you are looking for a bigger sword or knife, or even better potions that can heal you to full health mind you these potions would only be good till you are about level 10 the class change can do a fair amount for a person in general.”

Jack looked thoughtful before speaking “Ah well as I already have my weapons and they work well for me so far, what of these potions? Also, can you identify items as well?”

Tokhta perked up at the mention of identify “Ahh you have found a treasure of some kind that needs to be identified? Well, bring it over and Ill let you know what it is, if you wish to sell it to me the fee is waved though if you wish to keep it the cost will be two copper coins in payment, Fair deal?”

“Yes, Tokhta that is a fair deal” while saying that Jack pulled out the ring, he had gotten what felt like so long ago, and handed it over to the man who took the ring with glee. Seeing a pulse of energy ripple out from Tokhta like it was a visual radio wave bouncing off the ring and back to the merchant.

Tokhta looked back at Jack seeing that he was waiting patiently for his response Tokhta answered the unspoken question “Well this is a very interesting ring it gives the user a plus 2 towards wisdom which is interesting but from what I can tell from looking at you your base stats, it indicates no placement of any points into that or intelligence. As you seem new Ill throw you a bone here, wisdom is a more ethereal measurement it doesn’t have an outward affect on our abilities but on what we can do for casting, and this is about understanding the ethereal arts as they affect our world. Its Commonly seen in many spell casters while not a super powerful buff it is a buff that is based on stats, early on in one’s path this can be useful. So, that being said I can offer you five silver pieces to you for this ring and since we are throwing you one bone ill throw you another for each silver piece you have it is worth 50 coppers, a single copper can’t get you much on its own, but ten coppers can get you one basic healing potion that I had mentioned before.”

Nodding his head Jack did agree sure he could have a ring on, but he had no training on how to go about using it properly and he may never or at least in the short term not place any points into it. Startling himself about thinking about points he was in a safe zone he could spend his new points now; well, he would wait after this trade then spend his points. So, what did he want obviously he was going to sell the ring so that meant he had seven silvers converted to coppers he had three hundred and sixty-three coppers worth to his name that’s 36 health potions if converted. Though Jack figured that would be over kill, best to take two silvers worth of health potions.

Nodding his head at Tokhta “I will sell the ring to you and take two silvers worth of health potions can I also see your selection of knifes?” Satisfied as Tokhta smiled and pulled out ten potions they were small looking vials with a strawberry red color to them small about the width of his index finger but if a school pencil Jack too the vials as Tokhta handed Jack back three silvers bringing his current total to five for the moment.

As Jack was putting his potions away Tokhta pulled out a couple long looking knives they were different styles as a whole. One was as long as his forearm while others were shorter though not by much, As Jack perused Tokhta’s wears he placed signs next to each one thee longest short sword was what looked like to be some Roman Gladius and it was honestly badass as its hilt looked warn with age and use the blade was well taken care of letting off a slight sheen, the only other weapon to catch his eye was a very short looking cutlass it was once a fine piece though did show much age and usage on the blade though it was beautiful though he figured why it was so cheap likely not a repairable weapon and would be used as is until it broke likely in combat.

Turning back to the Roman Gladius sure Jack new very little about using a sword but if he treated it like the weapon he was and not be an idiot it would make a good side arm to have in case something went wrong, and he needed a weapon after all he would likely run out of ammunition and his small knife was nothing more then a hunting knife. Jack figured he would bite the bullet and buy the weapon it did cost him three whole silvers which felt like robbery though looking around the room this weapon was likely one of the only things he could buy for a while.

Funny enough Jack found him back at the same amount he had before entering, though that was also a fact that he could always come back and purchase more or different supplies if needed spending all one’s money was foolish if you didn’t know what was next.

Smiling at Tokhta, Jack figured he would say his goodbyes “Thank you for your help and assistance today Tokhta I hope we meet again in the future I did enjoy my time at your store….” Before Jack could finish a notification flared up in his vision.

Play Jack Rickson as this is your first time in a store you may select this merchant to be your ‘home’ store. Selecting this option will grant you access to his store in any store location. Not Selecting this option will make it random and you could get any manner of store good or bad. Would you like to set this store yes/no?

Seeing this pop-up Jack liked the merchant so far plus the idea of building up a reputation with a merchant sounded like a good idea especially if he could Hagel his way into some kind of discount. Mentally Jack selected ‘Yes’, and nothing changed no message or anything else though before Jack headed over towards a corner Tokhta spoke in a loud friendly voice.

“Ahhh I am glad you chose to pick me as your home store there are many benefits to selecting that, Ill have you know I have one of the finest collections of enchanted gear while I may be slightly pricer then my competitors in the more basic goods when it comes to the gear you could want and need I have it at a vast discount in comparison. As my main class is an enchanter there will never be a need to go through a third party, after all most merchants use myself to enchant their gear!”

Jack was glad to hear that he guessed in the future that there would be options for Jack to get mid to late ‘game’ gear through his own merchant vs having to outsource his goods. Tokhta was still rambling, so Jack tuned back in.

“…As this is something you wont benefit from till much later in your progression, all future purchase’s your charges for anything to be identified will be waved and I will even drop my basic health potions down to five coppers a piece to help you survive, also no you may not get a refund as you have already made the deal but when you come back if you need more I will gladly sell them to you for five coppers. Though it is all possible the next time that we meet you will be above level 10 meaning you will have to pay more for those potions, but I will make them market rates.”

Seeing as the man was finally out of steam, maybe few people picked merchants to be their home store, but I guess it made sense to want to encourage people to do so. Plus, from the looks of it Tokhta might not get many people who either survive or want him to be their merchant since most of his equipment was for higher leveled people. Did Jack just secure a high-grade trader for himself as progressing was something of a drive now, he could move better then he ever had and felt better then he even did before he was in the military. It felt right to want to get better at least.

Waving back at Tokhta, Jack found his way into one of the armchairs off in the corner it looked like to be a waiting area of sorts while Tokhta delt with a person the others who were waiting could relax in a nice comfy sofa.

I guess since I have time, I could pull up my status I haven’t seen it in ages, and it would be good to actually think over my choices besides just guessing.

Looking over his stats Jack did enjoy the idea of continuing the high dexterity and agility tree as his sword even was light and agile. Figuring it wouldn’t hurt he placed one in each and felt the pain wave through his body. It felt better this time but going from pain of nearly going blacking out to just suffering through the changes didn’t feel like an improvement at all. Though eventually he hoped it would be as if Jack had just pricked his skin and could even do it mid combat if necessary though he doubt he would ever go that path.

Shakily getting up out of the chair Jack found his way to the middle of the lobby portion of the room and parked himself in the middle centering his feet jack made sure his new sheathed short sword was locked in and ready to go. Double checking to make sure his potions were in his bag, and he was ready to move Jack figured it was about time he tried facing what ever that monster was though only on his terms. First, he was going to continue exploring this house and once he was confident that there was only one of those creatures he would take his chance. Right now, though it was time to go.
