Dungeon Of the Liminal
Here we go again

Here we go again

Watching both boys leave in the back of the police cruiser Jack found himself sighing as looking at his watch it was barely 22:30. Sure some time had passed but at this point needing a slight break Jack figured he might as well start on his report in the morning. Which brought him back to his first problem there is no way this is a real warehouse right? Also, would not all the security know about this place and what it does? Also, why the hell wasn’t I informed on any of this? So many questions and no answers so far, would this warrant a call to the Captain over… I doubt since he said to only call if it were something I could not handle. Thinking back on his day maybe this was some kind of test? Well, that’s just conjecture at this point though it could be anything. No Jack would fill out and honestly recount the happenings of the evening.

Spending a good 15 minutes writing up his report so far for the evening he closed out the computer before ensuring that the report so far had saved. Getting up he stretched out his limbs before making his way out to the door to enter this dungeon though just before pulling out his card and smacked his head, he still had two points to spend and honestly it was probably best to spend those points now in a safe place rather than in some open and deadly hostile place.

So, Jack though about his stats and where he wished to place them since his strength was his highest so far at 12 and Endurance was just bellow that at 11, he figured why not one in each. Selecting Strength first he felt his muscles flex and grow and pulse with a new energy as if he could easily add another 20 pounds to his already max weight of 200 that he did at the gym.

Strength 12-> 13

Letting the pain fade away Jack immediately placed his last point into Endurance this time it felt like his body was firming up feeling as his muscles almost condensing vs the expansion of muscles through strength, maybe it was because of stat placement why Captain Reach was such a beast of a man.

Endurance 11-> 12

Finally seeing as he had no more ghost pains in his body due to its expansion it was finally time for him to head inside at 22:55 he was ready to re-enter this so-called dungeon even though jack understood that it was dangerous inside he couldn’t hold back the feeling that this was his moment, and he could become better physically then he had before the incident. Still, he had to be careful, keep an eye on things and to be organized the last thing he needed was to get lost in this warehouse. Moving into the corridor as he shut the door behind him to an audible click to make sure the lock had re secured itself in place.

Walking in the opposite direction now that he had already scouted out the northern walkway Jack headed down the southern set of stairs into what looked like to be a more cooler style area of storage shelves lined up for possibly produce of some kind. Since he could see no statues inside could mean many things, Maybe these are creatures only found in that part of the warehouse or they have a different form of some kind. Best to keep his guard held up as he scanned his surroundings. Letting his eyes scan from left to right he caught something out of the corner of his eye. It was an object that had a slight shimmer to it as he got closer it looked like to be an old school tv one of those colourless ones that you might find in your grandparents’ basement. It looked old and worn down, just before heading over a slight notification popped up in his vision.

Inspection has increased by one.

Seeing this he paused as that was interesting was inspection only to help him find things easier or for other things as well? In any case this was a blessing in disguise as it would be beneficial to keep in mind the skill and the glow in a neutral tone possibly to signify its importance. Jack headed on over towards the Television and see what had caused his inspection to level up. Just as Jack was within a couple of feet from the Tv it flashed on.

This caused Jack to freeze and pull his weapon while waiting for any hostile action from the object whatever it might be. Since the seconds ticked by nothing happened so slowly Jack creeped closer to the object as he rounded it to find it start to display words as if it had been waiting for an audience. As the words flung across the screen Jack read them listening to a clicking noise normally could be associated to a typewriter with the eerie sound of static flung in the air. Deciding to just focus on the words jack read them aloud though quietly as not to attract any attention.

Greetings player as you have discovered a rare find this television will display a location in which will have a hidden treasure, though not all treasures are free are you prepared to find such a treasure? From your current location you will have to travel south 250 meters before heading west 150 meters there you will find another Television with more instructions.

Abruptly just as he finished reading the message in front of him the television blinked out now sitting dormant like any old tv. This was a serious debate he could follow the directions but how would he measure meters in this place accurately enough or would it be just a good guess at the surroundings as he walked. Also saying that the treasures are not free makes him feel like some kind of Monster. Probably not those statues even if they are freaky, I would list them as a low threat at least for the moment as they are easy to manage considering one round was enough to put it in the ground.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Figuring as this was like a scavenger hunt of sorts, he was to follow the directions fight some monsters and find the next location. Would it get progressively harder or exponentially harder it would be hard to tell by just guessing at this point. So, would he go or just explore? It seemed worth it to at least go to the next location at least and see if it was worth it to just continue or to bail and figure out a way back before exploring again.

Choosing that path Jack headed in that direction keeping his eyes open and pealed for any sudden or weird movements as anything could be a danger to him. Slowly walking along with his side arm still drawn Jack came to a three-way intersection as if he were coming from the bottom place of the T, since his direction his only true option was to turn west as that was the direction he had been informed to follow. Though this was far too early as he had only walked 50 or so meters down the hall, as he thought this was going to be a something he would have to remember pulling out his phone the starter recording the turns that he was taking. If he started taking two many turns, he would end up lost and that was by far the last thing Jack wanted.

Continuing down the corridors or what ever you would call this maze-like structure it started to feel as if he were being watched, coming to a halt Jack could hear a faint noise it sounded like a call for help. It was faint very faint, and he could hear it coming from down the corridor keeping a fast pace but slow enough to keep an eye out for anything. As he got closer, he could hear what sounded like a young female who had been crying her eyes out from the sobbing call that could be heard. Though just had Jack turned a bend he saw her, crouched down in what looked like to be the local boardings schools uniform sobbing. Her kilt had been torn and the clothing looked stained with possibly blood, Training had some what kicked in as Jack made himself heard.

“Hey, I am Jack I work for the sunny corporation’s security team do you need any assistance” Slowly he walked closer as he holstered his side arm warry but more so worried about the obviously destressed teen who had wandered in here lost and confused. Jack was not surprised since relatively an hour back he had just caught two dumb kids sneaking into this place.

Seeing as how the young girl who could not have been older then 16 had not moved an inch but continued to sob and almost cry harder Jack steeled himself. He walked within reach as he bent down to grab hold of her shoulder, she vaporized in front of him as if she were just a mere projection of a person in front of him. Standing back up he could hear the noise of the same girl but this time she was giggling but not just any giggle the one of those I am a bout to seriously fuck up your day by way of what ever magic held this place together. Front just behind him he could hear in a giddy voice “Oh my aren’t you a big boy” he could almost hear her lips smacking together in a sensual tone. Spinning around as fast as he could see her standing there before pulling up his weapon to shoot, she once again vanished. Only To hear her behind him once again “Nuh uh, you haven’t been a good enough boy” this time the voice started to change into a grotesque amalgamation of voices it sounded as if hundreds of young female and male voices were speaking as one though some where higher pitched while others lower and somber the noise was something no human could make.

Because that every time he turned around it was as if she, it was right behind him. What could you shoot if you could not see. Jack had to think fast as this was not something that had been expected. Turning Jack started to head back in the direction he came in quickly thinking back to what he had written on his phone. But as he ran the voices followed and they followed teasing and taunting him, “Oh the big boy doesn’t want to play if he doesn’t want to, we may have to make him play.”

Just as it finished saying that he could see one of the shelving units shut his turn and opening another direction an unmarked one or turn back and head into the monster. “Damit, why did I have to be so stupid why would there be kids this deep into this stupid warehouse?” Jack said spitefully towards himself. But there had been kids in here earlier and he had found them messing around with a weeping angel, from his perspective now was super easy in comparison to what ever the hell this god forsaken creature was.

Deciding that so far, he had no way of fighting this monster he would just have to outrun it till it either decided to just kill him or for him to find an opening to kill it. Taking the open corridor Jack huffed it trying to block out the sounds of the creature as he ran, Noticing that when ever he felt like he was back on the right path again the monster would tut and shut the damn hallway. Though why not just block him in and kill him off? It either enjoyed the chase or was unable to fully restrict him that way.

Just as Jack Made one final turn he ran by a very reflective panel and as he investigated the panel, he could see a figure and it nearly made him yelp in surprise. The creature reflected in this was grotesque it had multiple pulsating gelatinous features that wiggled and wormed around dripping a bloody concoction of some kind that slathered its body. Its face was ever changing though non were of any help its eyes were black as the night sky and its face was deathly white as if it was just bone. The teeth and the jaws hung down lower then was ever possible as it inched its way closer thinking it had finally made its target given up. Figuring this was his only shot Jack pulled his weapon and fired 5 shots down range hopping to hit this fucker before he got any closer.

As the last shot was fired, he heard the creature screech it let out a bellowing wail as it faded into a pile of red mushy substance. Taking this moment Jack leaned against one of the boxes that held what looked like to be some children’s toys of some kind. That was too much but he was now lost deep into this hell? No Dungeon of the liminal as it has so called itself.

Finally getting the wind back in his sails he sat up only to realize a blinking notification in his vision because he was in a safe location Jack accepted the notification.
