Corrupted Morals

Corrupted Morals

"Urgh!" The blonde man winced in pain as the little girl tightened the bandage around his body.

"Sind Sie in Ordnung? (Are you alright?)" She asked.

"La igresi. (I'm okay.)" He replied with a bittersweet smile, intending to get rid of her worries.

"Bist du schon fertig mit dem Süßsein? (Are you done being sweet yet?)" Park Jeongeun inquired, sounding bored almost as a yawn escaped from his mouth.

The blonde haired man and his comrades stared at him in disdain. Not only had he humiliated them but also stolen their equipment and taken them as hostage. They vowed to never allow such indignity to repeat.

"What's with those looks? I may not understand your native tongue, but it's pretty clear you all harbour some type of hostility towards me. I suggest you all stop now before I pluck your eyes out this time." Jeongeun said as he leisurely pointed his gun towards them.

Despite the enormous extent of contempt they dearly held for him, there was one thing even they could not deny no matter how many times they tried to forget about it: his overwhelming power. This applied especially for the mage and assassin for they had experienced his absurd fighting skills first-hand.

"Tun Sie ihnen nicht weh! (Don't hurt them!)" The little girl shouted as she blocked the bullet's direction from hitting her friends.

Her body trembled slightly as beads of sweat began appearing on her forehead. Her pulse beats quickly as fear overwhelms her. Although she was inexperienced in such matters—she could feel it. The room reek of blood and death. A single mistake could be their downfall. Even so, she stood her ground.

It did not concern them how tiny she was—merely standing at 153 centimeters with a physique as thin as rake—overshadowed by the clothes she donned. As of this moment, her frail back appeared mightier than the greatest fortress.

"Geez…Du lässt mich hier wie den Bösewicht aussehen...Obwohl ich zugeben muss, dass ich auch nicht gut bin. (Geez...You're making me look like the bad guy here...Although I have to admit that I'm no good either.)" He uttered before withdrawing his weapon.

"Wie auch immer...sag mir. Wie kannst du ihre Sprache verstehen? (Anyway...tell me. How can you understand their language?)" Jeongeun continued.

She scoffs in annoyance before reluctantly answering his question.

"Nun, das liegt daran, dass… (Well, that's because…)"

"I wonder what they are talking about…" Takashi pondered as he could only watch his leader speaking with the little girl in German.

"I have to agree. I'm also curious as to what they are talking about. But even if I hear their conversation, I doubt I can decipher their words." Kafil spoke.

"...I'm sure it isn't something pleasant." Sungah voiced with uncertainty.

"You…you haven't been the same lately. I understand that you must be worried since Seoul is, well, probably destroyed already. But you're still alive, so why's the sad face?" Takashi questioned as he stooped down to her eye level.

"...It isn't Seoul that I'm worried about. It's that I'm…scared. Sir's actions have been…a lot more unpredictable lately. I know he isn't the nicest but back before this all happened…he at least looked like he cared for others." Sungah answered while staring at Jeongeun from afar with a mixture of hopelessness and doubts brewing in her heart.

"Right, you don't know the true sir…But so what? He saved your life. Shouldn't you at least be grateful for that?"

"...I guess…Yet his words, actions…they are something a villain would usually commit…He didn't even feel scared about taking the life of others…He wasn't even afraid to pull the trigger on an unconscious man. More importantly, how did he even get a gun? Aren't they strictly banned here?"

"...You make a good point. I don't know how he managed to snuck one in. And no, I didn't find a gun when I was scavenging for things yesterday. He's very selfish and for him to be willing to stand by our side means he cares for us. Sure, his action might not be morally correct, but I'd rather follow him then become a lone wolf."

"...Then, are you guys trustworthy?"

"What the hell are you trying to imply?"

"You follow him, a sociopath amongst psychopaths. He who can easily take a life without remorse. He who can ignore the cries of the innocent. How can…I trust you anymore? I'm not sure if I could trust myself even…"

Before Takashi could propose his answer—Kafil intervened as he took it upon himself to regain the trust she had lost.

"Hear me out, Sungah. What you are saying is valid. But you can't just dismiss the years we have worked together at the company. I won't ask you to do much but know this: We will ensure your safety."

"...But what's the point of safety if I'm working for an evil man? What's the use of being protected if the result is that the guiltless will be killed just for my sake?"

Sungah's question stunned Kafil as his mind raced to find a suitable answer but none came to light. Minutes passed by yet he still could not come up with a definitive answer.

"...Just forget it." Sungah spoke sullenly.

"Urgh…what do you not get!?" Takashi suddenly burst out in anger as he pulled her by the collars of her shirt.

"Yeah, so what if he's evil? He cares enough to retrieve you! If it wasn't for him, you wouldn't be here in the first place. Now let me ask you a question as well. How many 'good' guys would be willing to go as far as to save innocent souls by risking theirs?

"How many people are actually good, and are going as far as to rescue others from danger out of selflessness? You don't see them everyday now, do you? So, stop fucking complaining. He's evil, yet he saved your pitiful little ass. If it was me, I would've left you and declared you dead whether you were still alive or not.

"Now get your act together and stop doubting him, piece of shit." Takashi grumbled as dropped Sungah onto the floor and walked away out of exasperation.

"A-are you alright, Sungah?" Kafil questioned as he lent her his hand but was rejected.

As Kafil awkwardly left her alone—she wondered whether the path she took was correct or not. Doubts piling up in her mind as she continued gazing at Park Jeongeun from afar.

'...Is this…really right? It's not, is it? But…I'm weak…I can't survive by myself…yet he, who's younger than me…already adapted to the current situation, and was willing to take lives without hesitation…I'll survive if I follow him..

.but it's not...the path I want to take...I...I don't know anymore..."
