Chapter 350 - The Might of Defiance

Chapter 350 - The Might of Defiance

As if the world’s fate had finally aligned, everything came together in this one seemingly mundane place; Yushu Planet.

The Spirit Plane was utterly destroyed by Yaan and the Karmic Annihilation Formation, as was the karmic river, and the Heavenly Dao’s dao of karma itself. This sort of destruction was unprecedented in the 2nd Origin Era. Even the war one million years ago couldn’t compare.

Only the divinities and some of the more fortunate Transcendents managed to survive, chasing after Yaan and clinging onto the fragments of the former World Plane as the fragmented Spirit Plane was forced to enter the Qi Plane. Because of this, as soon as those individuals arrived on the Qi Plane, they quickly jumped away from those fragments. They shot towards Yushu Planet and the surrounding few million miles of space. This region was akin to the eye of the storm, unharmed amidst a sea of chaos, blood and death.

As Yaan faced the dumbfounded Primordial Devil, he felt so many powerful gazes weighing down upon him from every conceivable direction.

The Primordial Sage, Law Empyrean, Old Thief…

The Spirit Plane Lord, who was staring daggers into his soul as she steeled her heart and devoured the collapsing fragments of the Spirit Plane in order to facilitate her own survival…

The Primordial Asura, who arrived just as the chaos reached its peak.

The three divinities from the Divine Court who had resided on the Spirit Plane, along with the several other divinities from the Spirit Plane. Some were from the Primordial Alliance, others were unaffiliated…

Justice Deity, who stuck by her master’s side and looked around blankly, watching as more and more divinities, some whom she recognised, others she did not, arrived from every corner of the Qi Plane.

Through all of this, Yaan glanced up and narrowed his eyes. It was difficult to even discern the presence in the midst of all this insanity, but he could feel the pressure of the Heavenly Dao building up rapidly with an intense aura of wrath.

‘As expected, destroying the dao of karma attracted Heavenly Retribution. I really didn’t want things to go this far, but what other choice did I have? Heavenly Retribution is not something that I can deal with, in fact, nobody can…that is, nobody, except for him. But I’m certain, there’s no possible way that he will miss this.’

Yaan, and all of these divinities who struck fear into the hearts of the many beings in this world, seemed to be waiting for something…someone. They all knew that he would be coming, because whenever something world-shaking occurred, he always, without fail, showed up.

Finally, he arrived.

BANG!

Defiance Sovereign’s foot slammed down onto the star that Yushu Planet had orbited, instantly obliterating the celestial body and sending even the chaos caused by the Spirit Plane’s destruction flying in every direction. Yushu Planet itself was also caught up in the shockwave and started trembling violently, until Defiance Sovereign casually waved his hand.

In an instant, the world fell silent.

Defiance Sovereign stabilised the eye of the storm with a single motion, sending the destruction around this centre flying even further away.

With a boisterous and free laugh that made the fabric of space itself tremble, Defiance Sovereign took another step. He instantly appeared within the centre of the crowd, directly above Yaan and the Primordial Devil.

Despite Yaan being the cause of all this, everyone’s gazes were drawn away from him and towards Defiance Sovereign in this moment. In fact, many individuals subtly flew backwards, cautiously choosing to keep their difference.

Everyone present, without exception, remained wary of Defiance Sovereign. Whenever Defiance Sovereign made his move, the world would roar and the tides would change. He was unpredictable, there was no way of knowing what he would choose to do.

He was a terrifying mixture of powerful and unpredictable. Rather than a divinity, most people saw him as a walking natural disaster. So, now that he was here…what was he going to do?

Defiance Sovereign turned around slowly, deliberately making eye contact with every single divinity as he wore a mocking smile.

“Everyone, we meet again. Now, I’m sure many of you are wondering…who will be the victor in this cataclysmic battle between the Primordial Devil and the incarnation of his heart demon? Well, you all don’t need to worry anymore, because now that I am here, there is only one answer – I am the victor in this battle.”

“…”

“…”

“…”

“I’m glad that everyone agrees with this verdict.” Defiance Sovereign laughed once again when he saw that nobody dared to refute him. Finally, he looked down towards Yaan and the Primordial Devil. He only briefly glanced at the shocked and extremely aggressive looking Primordial Devil, before he turned his gaze towards Yaan.

Yaan looked up at Defiance Sovereign and stared into his eyes which shone with an unhindered will like no other that Yaan had witnessed before. He had seen Defiance Sovereign in his partial inheritance, but meeting him in person was seriously something else.

In the many decades that he spent building the Karmic Annihilation Formation, Yaan had plenty of time to consider as many scenarios as possible that could follow his activation of the formation. As insane as it might sound, destroying the dao of karma and then encountering Defiance Sovereign, was still within his considerations…

It was far from ideal, though.

First, he needed to deal with the Heavenly Retribution. Heavenly Retribution was designed to kill, nobody could escape from this fate. That is, supposedly, nobody aside from Defiance.

Yaan looked up at Defiance Sovereign and clasped his hands politely.

“Senior Defiance, congratulations on your victory. I brought you a gift…please accept this Heavenly Retribution. No need to be polite, please take all of it.”

Defiance Sovereign stared at him for a moment longer, before erupting with laughter once again.

“Pahahaha! Kid, what a good ‘gift’, I truly like it! And by like it…I mean that I despise it from the very depths of my soul.”

Defiance Sovereign’s gaze turned from bright and boisterous, to dark and bloodthirsty the second he looked up at the giant black cloud that continued to form high above Yaan.

“Heavenly Dao, you dare to show your face before me? You actually dare to reveal this little cloud…before me?!” Defiance Sovereign’s voice echoed out through the world, causing countless tears to rip through space. His aura exploded in every direction without a care for his surroundings, but all of his hatred and killing intent was directed towards the dark, ominous cloud above. Thanks to his single-minded focus, Yaan and the Primordial Devil weren’t injured by his outburst.

“Defiance!” A voice suddenly cut through space, forcing many divinities and Transcendents to retreat hastily.

From the endless waves of destruction and blood that were sweeping out through the Qi Plane, two women emerged. The first wore a white robe and had a pristine appearance, but her usually gentle expression was twisted with hatred and fury. The second woman wore a black robe, she looked cold and emotionless, her expression was completely plain, but she couldn’t hide the boundless slaughter from he gaze.

The Spirit Plane Lord and the Primordial Asura!

The Spirit Plane Lord stared at Defiance Sovereign, whom, in her eyes, was currently protecting the vile heart demon from what he had earned by committing such an immense atrocity.

“Defiance, are you siding with the heart demon?! Do you know what he has done, how many people he has killed?! Are you betraying the Primordial Alliance?!”

Compared to the Spirit Plane Lord’s rage and the Primordial Asura’s silent killing intent, Defiance Sovereign only cast them an indifferent glance.

“Little girl, watch your tone when speaking with me. Why should I care if this kid is that little devil’s heart demon? Why would I care about the deaths of a few quadrillion lives? Why would I care about some alliance? In this world, I go where I want, I do what I want, and I take what I want. Do you know why? It’s simple - in this world, I am the only one who understands what it means to be defiant.”

After saying his overbearing piece, Defiance Sovereign shook his head and sighed, then said one last line before ignoring everyone else and turning back to the Heavenly Retribution, right as it was about to descend.

“Little girl, if you ever interrupt me whilst I am fighting the Heavenly Dao again, I will end your life on the spot.”

Overbearing! Way too overbearing! Even Yaan couldn’t help but feel taken aback by the way that Defiance Sovereign spoke and acted before these powerhouses who stood at the peak of the four planes.

Before anyone could even process the overwhelming events that were currently transpiring right before their eyes, Defiance Sovereign shocked everyone yet again.

It was as if even Yaan’s battle against the Primordial Devil had been forcefully put on hold, because everyone needed to wait for Defiance…

In truth, Yaan had stopped because he was waiting for the Primordial Devil to make his first move. Besides that, there was a genuine possibility that if he continued on with his plan and simply ignored Defiance Sovereign after ‘gifting’ him with the Heavenly Retribution, then Defiance Sovereign would take offence and kill him with a slap.

Yaan didn’t need to wait for long.

As Defiance Sovereign glared up at he Heavenly Retribution, with so much hatred filling his gaze that it caused the entire region around him to become dark red blur, the black cloud suddenly froze.

Defiance Sovereign snorted coldly, and then, to everyone’s disbelief, the Heavenly Retribution cloud actually started retreating, dissipating back to wherever it came from!

This was insane! A Heavenly Retribution fleeing from an individual? How was this possible?

Defiance Sovereign didn’t seem to be surprised however, just very annoyed.

“Heavenly Dao, you damned coward! You dare show yourself before me just to run away?! I won’t let you leave today, I know that you’re injured! The 2nd Era is coming to its end, and I swear, I will beat you down until you’re forced to reincarnate once again! Heavenly Dao…get the hell back here!”

As Defiance Sovereign roared, the trembling cloud was actually forcefully dragged back into the world! By now, everyone had retreated as far as possible, not daring to get in the way of Defiance Sovereign’s insanity.

Defiance Sovereign reached out with his giant hand, then grasped down on the Heavenly Retribution cloud, fully bringing it back into the world and preventing it from escaping.

As for what happened next…

Yaan was unsure. All he saw was a flash of black so destructive that his heart lurched and his instincts screamed at him that this situation was extremely perilous.

And then, just as quickly as it appeared, everything vanished.

The black flash of destruction, the Heavenly Retribution cloud…all of it had gone. In its place, stood Defiance Sovereign, now covered in blood, as the occasional shimmer of a black lightning bolt flashed across his gigantic body.

Defiance Sovereign glanced at the crowd, before turning back towards Yaan and the Primordial Devil.

“You two may fight now. Nobody is to interfere - I want to see how this plays out.”
