Chapter 20: Ready for a Trip?

Chapter 20: Ready for a Trip?

Rune opened his eyes. Even though he had become a human about three months ago, it felt good to sleep. Also, he could now go on the bed without breaking it. He sighed as he stared at his ceiling.

He heard a yawn to his right and he looked over. It was Sophia who was trying to sit up, but kept falling down. He chuckled a little.

“What’s so funny?”

“No no. It’s nothing. Anyway, good morning. Want to get some breakfast?”

“...Sure.”

The two of them got up and changed clothes. Rune now had seven pairs of basically the same exact clothes and Sophia wore a white blouse. She put on some slippers and leaned on Rune while yawning,

“Ok. It’s time to go to the dining room.”

Sophia nodded as Rune held her against him and walked through the halls. He was thinking about what food to get when they reached the room and sat down. A maid came over to ask them what they wanted.

“I will have some toast and bacon, please. Sophia will have… The same.”

She had her eyes closed and was breathing lightly. She seemed like she would fall over at any moment. Rune shook her slightly and she peeped open an eye.

“You have to be awake for food. I know you eat a light lunch and work on your alchemy right after, but it’s kind of unhealthy to not eat.”

“Thank you for your order, master, misses.”

“Oh! Do you know where Roxana went?”

“The young miss went to eat breakfast with her friends.”

“Ah, thanks.”

The food came out shortly and the couple thanked her as she left. They grabbed their utensils and started to eat. Suddenly, the door burst open and Rouna appeared. Sophia did not know her as she strode up to Rune.

“Hi again. Remember what we did yesterday?”

Sophia was instantly awake and looked at Rune and Rouna. She looked at Rune with criticizing eyes.

“Yeah. We talked about how Tiamat’s Heads want my power or whatever. There is no need for you to barge into my home and create a misunderstanding for my wife.”

“Oh. Is that what it was?”

“Yes. Her name is Rouna, a dragon. I had to go see her on the king’s orders.”

Sophia’s eyes instantly softened and she continued to stuff her mouth. Rune sighed and quickly finished the food and got up. He left the room and Rouna followed.

“I didn’t know you had a wife.”

Rouna spoke in a teasing voice as she looked at Rune. The two of them were moving at a brisk pace towards the lab.

“Well, we haven’t had a ceremony yet, but apparently people don’t do that here. It’s too expensive.”

“I don’t even have a mate.”

She licked her lips as she stared at Rune’s.

“Yeah, no. I don’t have any plans for polygamy or harems.”

“Ha-rum?”

“No. Ha-rem. It is when one guy is surrounded by multiple girls.”

“Oh.”

They entered the lab and Rune pulled up two chairs to a table, one on either side. Rune gestured for Rouna to sit and the both sat on opposite sides of the table.

“So, I want to know what monsters are in the sea.”

“There are many beasts, but the most dangerous ones are known as Aboleths who roam the ocean and eat random beings to gain their knowledge. Other than them, Coastal Dragons are a nightmare to deal with because they ruin your ship all the time.”

“What about those five places you mentioned?”

“The five places are five areas that the Irregular Dragons’ underlings usually run. The first place is home to white dragons where a Hierarchs control regular dragons to get information and items. They are usually kept in the dark and have no idea that they are being used to help Tiamat. This place is underground in an arctic environment known as the Frozen Tunnels.

The second place is controlled by a Hierarch Dragon who is using a mind control device to control blue dragons to do what she wants. The area is on an island in the sky where storms surround it.

The third area is a volcano where four Hierarch Dragons talk amongst each other about how to help the Fire Irregular Dragon. The forth is a town that worships a single black Hierarch Dragon.

Lastly, the fifth place is the most heavily guarded fortress. It has a single Irregular dragon that uses the lightning element. Every guard is a Hierarch Dragon whose total amount numbers over one thousand. I wouldn’t recommend going there.”

Rune shifted a bit as he heard where the bases were. It was now clear to him that he was only the strongest in one half of the world.

“So, why are Dragons rare if there are so many there and in your cave?”

“Dragon sightings are rare as we aren’t seen very often by people. We usually hang out underground in secluded caves. People don’t go near our caves and think that there is only one or two dragons in it. To be truthful, many of us dragons lurk in the caves for a couple centuries. I think the last time I left was about twenty odd centuries ago when the most powerful Demon King appeared. Or second most powerful. I believe that you have a bit more strength than him.”

“So why leave your cave if you don’t want to?”

“Your “pupils” were going into the caves and trying to ask me questions. I made my apprentice substitute for me as the protector and Dragon to ask questions. Those “pupils” could probably take him out in one go, but I think I can beat them all, even if they came at me all at once.”

“I think it would be good to have a person who can see the present and past on our side is good. Want to join?”

“First of all, it is not omnipotent for I can only know about places that aren’t covered in a magic more powerful than I as well as the fact that I can’t hear anything. People who are powerful enough cannot be observed directly. Also, what do you have to offer?”

“...Not killing you and technology. Two of my staff are working on creating instruments to contact each other at far ranges.”

“Humanity has gotten far, haven’t they.”

“No. Not really. Compared to my first world, this humanity is living in poverty. Even lower class people in that world had access to information about almost anything.”

“First… World? Are you a world traveler?!”

“No. Well yes. My soul and not my body. My body couldn’t come after it turned to ashes. That Lathander god is pretty nice to let us keep living, even if we are entertainment.”

“I remember that world travelers only appear if the gods wish it. I know many of their descendants are on the unknown continent. They either work for themselves or for Tiamat’s Heads.”

“...Well that sucks.”

Rune got up from his chair and moved towards the gem on the table. He removed it from a necklace a while ago to keep the masochist imprisoned. She was pretty lonely only talking to Rune any time he walked into the lab.

To be quite frank, she was useless. Only her information had a small bit of value. This time, Rune decided to ask her about the continent.

While he looked at the gem, Rouna butted in on their conversation. Apparently, anyone with telepathy picked up whatever someone else said when they used it. At least within a certain range.

He quickly put her down and turned away and started walking towards the door. Rouna started to turn as well and followed him as the two of them started to move out of the lab.

Rune walked up to her and looked down upon the gem as she started to moan in pleasure. Apparently, she liked to be looked at with eyes that said that they would kill anyone who got in their way. Then he picked up the stone.

Rune promptly broke the stone which caused her to become quiet and Rouna’s face turned into shock as he crushed it in his hands. He dropped the dust on the floor and, after a moment, the gem liquified and turned into a humanoid.

She had black hair with purple stripes vertically. Her eyes were covered by her hands to block the light that she hadn’t experienced in several months. When she removed them, the two others could see her pink eyes. Her hair was tied up in a twin tail style and she was wearing some strange black clothes that exposed a lot of skin.

“Oh my!! I thought I would die being cramped! Why did you leave me there?!”

Rune ignored the question as she stretched her arms as she closed her eyes tightly. She took a step forward and fell face first into the desk in front of her as she hadn’t walked in several months. Rune picked her up by the scruff of her collar and dragged her up to her feet.

“Ah. I’m Hela Cania, the succubus servant of my master.”

She bowed as she placed her arms at her side. Rune was feeling tired from dealing with two people that were slowly draining his stamina. Rouna looked over Hela as she spoke and snorted with a face that basically said that Rouna was far superior to her.

“Anyway, I’m going to meet up with two people. You two talk to each other or whatever.”

Rune waved at them as he left the room. He was going to meet up with Kelly and Jared to see their progress. He needed to get the radio technology to contact others while traveling. He could teleport between the two if he had some party members on both sides, but he needed it in case something happened to those that could not teleport.

He was starting to move towards their guest rooms when he saw them turn the corner. They were headed towards Rune.

“Oh, hello. We were just about to head into the lab and finish up the radio.”

“Really? If you can be finished with it in about a day, then I should be able to get my group and supplies ready. If you are done, please work on something else, like a gun or something.”

“Uh, you do know that guns are hard to make, right?”

“Then make something with the same usefulness.”

With that, Rune left and walked towards Sophia. He knew that she was in the study that Rune had designed for her alchemy.

He entered the room and Sophia turned around. There were ten shelves around the room with books filling them all. One table was pushed to the side with papers and open books littering it. At her desk, there were empty potion bottles and she had four jars of multicolored liquids in each of them.

“Oh!! I didn’t know you were coming here. If I did, I could tidy up this room.”

“It’s fine. I was just going to travel to Aymren and wanted to see if you wanted to come.”

She was a bit startled at the sudden declaration and unintentionally made a surprised voice.

“Eh? Uh, sure!!”

Sophia quickly put down her jars and started to put some books away. She picked up her white and yellow coat and placed a healing vial in her pocket. As soon as she finished, she fished some keys out of her pocket and locked the door behind them.

The two of them left the house and walked to the entrance. As soon as they did, Rune pulled out his hovering platform and got on. He pulled Sophia up onto it and it moved over the land.

----------------------------------------

Rune jumped down from the platform with Sophia in his arms. She was clinging onto his neck. They had arrived at the front gates of the village. It looked like it had changed very much.

The buildings had changed from wood to cement. The walls had went from large, sharp wooden logs to high stone buildings. It even had a metal gate for the entrance. There was a huge line in front of the gate.

There were carriages and wagons with all kinds of materials in them. The guards that were stationed looked thoroughly through each carriage.

Rune was walking up to the gate with Sophia clinging to his arm when a guard moved in front of them. He held his arms in front of them and looked carefully at both Sophia and Rune.

“Oh, yeah! You guys wouldn’t remember me in this form, but I am Rune. Here. See?”

Rune pulled out his helmet from his storage and showed it to the guard. He seemed skeptical for a while, but realized that the girl next to him was Sophia and basically everyone in the village knew her appearance. He moved aside quickly and bowed.

“Please enter. Much has changed since you were last here. Your friend, Tyler, has helped with our growth.”

“Actually, I am here to see him. Can you point him out?”

“I will go look for dad.”

The two were about to split up to go to their destinations, but, when Sophia walked down a cobblestone path, several people tried to hit on her. Rune wasn’t going to let them do so and he ended going with Sophia to see Hersker.

“I guess I’ll go after we see him.”

“Ok!”

Sophia was smiling as they moved along the street. She was quite clingy with Rune and was hugging his arm while walking. There was no doubt that many males were grinding their teeth and getting jealous at Rune.

After some time, they could see Hersker with a huge grin on his face. He seemed to be talking to Dina, Sophia’s younger sister. They were both holding cups in their hands and Hersker started laughing.

He was wiping the tears from his eyes when he had laughed too hard when he noticed Rune and Sophia. He turned and smiled at them as he greeted them on his porch.

“Rune! Sophia! How have you two been? How far have you gone?”

“Let’s… not talk about that last bit. So far, we’ve been good. You?”

Rune spoke first as to avoid talking about his night life with Sophia. Next to him, Sophia blushed as she thought about how far they had gone. Dina was looking between Rune and Sophia and was giving them a sly smile.

“It’s fine. We were just talking about how amazing it was that Tyler had moved up in society so quickly. He is very friendly and helpful, such a good friend you have.”

“Are you still the village chief?”

“Yes, but I am a mayor in this new town. Things have been bustling and people have been expanding this village into a town. All thanks to that mall.”

“Mm. We should have brought Roxana.”

“Honey, why don’t you go get her quickly. Here. Create a party with me.”

They formed a small party and Rune teleported to his home and looked around. It took some time, but he found Roxana in her room. She was sleeping in her room.

Rune shook her a bit and she opened her eyes. She yawned a little before smacking her lips. She had woekn up to eat a bit of food before going back to sleep.

“Do you want to go on a trip?”

“...n…”

“Ok. Get dressed first.”

Rune teleported with Roxana who was slightly awake when they arrived. Sophia was sitting on a couch opposite of Hersker and Dina. Rune put Roxana down on the couch and Sophia placed her on her lap.

“This is Roxana. Rune saved her during a Devil invasion and was promoted to the rank of marquis. Say “Hi” Roxana.”

“...Hi…”

“Ahh. My first granddaughter. When will you two make my second?”

“Uhhh, what about Dina?”

“I think I’m good. I am working in the mall to gain some experience. I’ll focus on love when it affects me.”

“But daddy wants to have some grandchildren to play with.”

“You should phrase that better. Maybe less like a criminal.”

Hersker was acting childish and whining about how he was bored. He was most bored when Dina went to the Tyler's mall to work as a cashier. Roxana was snoozing lightly and Sophia was patting her on the head. Rune was sitting on the side of a sofa being ignored.

“Oh. Rune. How did you become a human?”

Dina’s face changed from calm to confusion as she looked at Rune. She looked at him carefully as soon as Hersker asked.

“What do you mean “become a human”?”

“I was Cursed Armor until I absorbed Gungnir and an ancient white dragon’s bones. I’m actually able to become any humanoid.”

“A-a white dragon?! Ancient?! Wait, big sis wrote to us that you got promoted to marquis. What happened in the past six months?”

Rune told the general gist of the story. By the end, Hersker and Dina’s jaws had already dropped and were staring wide eyed at him. By then, Sophia had gotten up and made some tea for them. When they finally settled down, the five of them talked about things like how Dina's job was goin or how hard Hersker was working by being the mayor.

“A-anyway, thanks for checking up on us.”

“T-thanks.”

“Ok. Goodbye. It’s time to go meet Tyler.”
