Chapter 16: School Life

Chapter 16: School Life

Roxana was sleeping when she felt a bright light in front of her. She peeped one of her eyes open to see that the window was opened. In the light, she could see a silhouette of a person.

They had pointed ears and light green hair. He was wearing the ALF school uniform which was black with snow white designs on it. The uniform consisted of a raven black jacket that went down to the waist, a button down white shirt underneath the jacket, and a pair of pants that had four pockets and was a light grey color.

The person who was opening Roxana’s curtains was one of her two friends at the school. There was actually another building behind the building that Rune called the “highschool”. That building was a smaller school that Roxana went to with forty other children. They were all ages 8-13 and learned different things. The highschool had 14-18 year olds, but so far there were only 14-15 year olds in the freshmen group.

There were teachers that Rune brought in to teach the students as well as some magic instructors. There were some teachers that Rune brought in to be combat instructors, but Rune himself taught all the honors fighting classes. It was a special class where only the most worthy came to find themselves.

Honor’s Class Freshmen:

-Rena: Majin female: Dual kama user. 5’ 4”

-Erin: Dragonborn male. Dual greatsword user. 6’ 9”

-Yula: Protector Aasimar female. Close combat and defensive magic user. 5’ 6”

-Mynn: Half-Elf male. Bow user. 6’ 2”

-Hika: Human female. Katana user. 5’ 5”

-Hyht: Cat Man male. Knife and enhancement magic user. 5’ 11”

-Akta: Majin female. Scythe wielder. 5’ 2”

-Nija: Majin female. Short sword and shield user. 4’ 11”

The schools were made up of different races as well as different ages:

Students in high school: 105 Students in other school: 40

Majin: 30% 32 people 20% 8 people

Beast Folk 20% 21 people 40% 16 people

Humans 20% 20 people 20% 8 people

Elves 10% 11 people 10% 4 people

Other 20% 21 people 10% 4 people

Roxana was in 3rd grade for she was a bit older than 8 years old. Her class learned writing and easy reading. Their math level was addition and subtraction and some multiplication. Only the high schoolers were allowed to practice combat. Rune wasn’t such an improper parent that he would allow Roxana to fight monsters.

In her class, she had two friends, Lysp and Enya. They were the twin daughter and son of Ulf, the architect. There were four others in the class to make seven people taught by a teacher by the name of Ms. Orya Nymm.

Instead of combat, they were taught magic by Lisbeth who had permanently quit being Charlotte's attendant. She had fun teaching Roxana that she asked to be their magic teacher. Rune agreed in an instant and she was hired.

The person who had opened Roxana’s curtains was Lysp. He was the son of Ulf and the male twin to his sister, Enya. Enya and Lysp were both Roxana’s friends and they had hung out a lot over the past month.

Lysp and Enya were half-elves because their mother was a High Elf who, although think of themselves as superior to all else, had fallen in love with Ulf, their father. Because of this, Lysp and Enya could both use magic better than most, but Roxana was at least on par with them.

Lysp could use Water magic and his highest spell was a rank B [Flood]. Enya used the Healing attribute and her highest spell was a rank B [Remedial Grounds]. Currently, Roxana could use an A rank spell known as [Purgatory].

Back to the present, Lysp turned his head towards Roxana and then looked to her right. Roxana slowly turned her head to find Enya grinning. They were both in the home on the far right of the property, but Lysp and Enya had special permission to enter as well as the multiple defenses guarding Roxana.

In a high pitched voice with some glee, Enya spoke to Roxana.

“Get up, sleepy head! It’s time to go to class!”

Roxana sat up slowly in her bed and looked at the two of them with sleepy eyes. She stretched and yawned and got out of her blankets grudgingly. Then she walked over to her closet, got out her uniform, and went to the bathroom to change.

When she came out, she could see Enya and Lysp at her door ready to go and the three of them left for school. As they went through the hallways, maids and butlers greeted them as they passed.

----------------------------------------

Rune was in the break room that he made when he designed the school. It was a room where teachers could be in to relax during lunch and study hall. Currently, Rune was having a chat with Lisbeth.

“You aren’t one anymore, right?”

“No, I’m not. Are you?”

Lisbeth sighed and hung her head. Her sigh was long filled with a bit of sadness.

“...Yes…”

“Oh, well. You should focus on finding someone to go out with you first.”

“Yeah, I guess…”

Suddenly, Roxana popped up at the door with her two friends.

“...What are you talking about?”

“Things adults talk about.”

“...But your only eight years older than me...”

“Ah. Then things you don’t need to know yet, I guess? Anyway, how are your classes?”

“...They are going good…”

Ms. Hymm who was getting some coffee that the school procured itself butted in. The school was one that was free for students to attend, so they had to create their own food system of gaining meat and other things. They decided to have the high school students fight boar monsters and things like them to get meat and they had animated gardening tools to harvest crops.

“You mean going well.”

“...Yes...going “well”...”

“That’s good. You know what? We should have a field trip somewhere.”

“...Field trip?”

“Oh, that sounds like a great idea!”

Only Rune and Lisbeth knew what a field trip was as none in Arborea went on them. Rune had decided that it would be good for them to get out of the school for a bit and roam around. Probably in a safe environment, but he would likely have something or someone to guard each group.

“It is basically a trip that each class goes on to learn about things outside of school.”

This time Enya and Lysp spoke simultaneously.

“Really!!?”

“Sure. Let’s schedule one for the capital, but let’s have different classes go at different times.”

----------------------------------------

Roxana moved through the halls at a quick pace with her two friends by her side. They were trying to get to class. Their classes started later than the high school’s classes, but Rune and Lisbeth and the others were lazing around because they had a transport item to teleport the teacher to their respective classes when one used it.

The trio finally reached class and sat down at their desks when the bell rang. The classroom had four other kids, seven in total, who were all sitting at their desks. On the seven desks, there were chalk tablets for the children to practice their writing. Ms. Nymm allowed the children to talk while working which made the class not boring for them.

What everyone was really looking forward to was the next class period where Lisbeth would teach them magic. She taught each student in the class personally so that they could each understand what their magic attribute does and what they can do with it in the future.

Everyone in the class was able to learn magic so she taught them on a regular basis. The school was only held on mondays to fridays and the weekend were there to let them do what they wanted in the school grounds.

Arborea had seven days a week with exactly thirty days in each month. The way the world spun on its axis and the star it moved around allowed for there to be 360 days in one year.

Everybody was talking with one another and Enya, Lysp, and Roxana were having their own conversations. Enya started to speak to the two of them.

“I wonder what kind of things the high schoolers learn in their classes.”

----------------------------------------

Rena found herself tired and in a daze. She wanted to get out of the class and fight something. Her attitude was slowly becoming that of Rune’s. In her class, there were 21 people including her. There were five classes of 21 students in the freshmen year.

The school system they ran on was something like the japanese school system where the teachers would move around the five classes. Rune decided that it would be easier to have a small amount of teachers moving than it was for all 105 high schoolers to even though he was from America. There was a study hall in the first block of the day and there were seven periods in total. Eight if you included lunch.

The class periods depended on what teachers were there and the seven were math, literature, history, science, weapon uses, study hall, and “gym”. The gym was where all the freshmen gathered at the end of the day and worked on fighting techniques. The Honor’s fighting students were taken from the freshmen and Rune took charge of them.

To be honest, Rune was the most laid back teacher they had for the weapon uses and Honor’s fighting classes. There were five teachers teaching five different subjects.

-Rune Samuv: Human(?) male. Honor’s fighting and weapon history. 6’ 4”

-Ophen Ryden: Ox Man male. History teacher. 6’ 4”

-Kely Ryden: Fox Girl female. Literature teacher. 5’ 3”

-Hugri Leio: Gnome male. Math teacher. 3’ 11”

-Sophia (Orn Alkyst) Samuv: Albino Anubis female. Teaches sciences. 5’ 3”

They each had homeroom teachers and Rena’s homeroom teacher was Rune. That meant that her second period class was Weapon Uses as her first was study hall. Her second period was Science with Sophia, third was Literature with Ms. Ryden, then History with Mr. Ryden, and, right before gym, was Math with Mr. Leio.

On the first day of school, the study hall and every class other than gym was used to introduce people to the teacher and the teacher to the students. In Rune’s case, he came in his full cold steel, magical armor and went to the chalkboard. He wrote his name in common, which is basically english, and talked to everybody with telepathy.

Then he took off his helmet, placed it on his desk and sat in the chair. To the class’s surprise, his armor vanished and he was wearing his dark clothing.

“Anyone want to say where they are from or their hobbies or what they want to do when they come out of this school?”

He spoke in common to the students who were gazing at him with suspicion and awe. One person raised their hand and he called on them.

“I am the son of the nobleman of Krept. We are becoming a poor noble family and I wish to learn all the humanities to be a good successor for my father so that all he worked for does not fail. My name is Haliberd Krept.”

Rune started to noticeably cringe. It looked like Haliberd had a question mark over his head as he looked confused towards Rune’s cringe.

“I meant things like jobs or careers and hobbies and likes and dislikes. Not all that polite stuff. Here, it was my mistake. Just say your name and hobby. Don’t go into a sad backstory. Here. I’ll go first.”

He cleared his throat and stood up.

“I am Rune Samuv, creator and founder of this school and I like to do whatever I want. There. Something like that.”

“A-ah. Ok. I am Haliberd Krept and I like to practice sword fighting.”

“Good good. Next. You.”

This went on for the entire study hall. When second period came, Rune started to explain what he was going to teach in his class. People asked him questions and he carefully answered in a nonchalant way.

During the third period, Sophia came and most of the men in the class ogled her. She started to introduce herself.

“I am Sophia Samuv. My full name is Sophia Orn Alkyst Samuv, the wife of Rune. I will be your teacher for science. I will be talking about mixtures and potion making for this year. Any questions?”

One person raised their hand and acted extremely dumb. If Rune was there, he would have whacked the teen with a bat to hit some sense into him and not mess with him.

“Why don’t you ditch that strange person and go out with me?”

It was a playboy who had a lustful gaze on Sophia. Rena face palmed as she thought that there was a high likelihood that he would die. However, Sophia answered in a careful manner.

“Oh. Do you not know the title Rune carries?”

“He is a marquis, correct?”

“No no no. Not just a marquis. He is the Demon King who has killed five out of seven demon king candidates. The entire Majin continent fears him and the newly titled Majin Empress is hesitant near him whenever he meets with her.”

“Wut?”

Everyone in the class except Rena voiced their surprise as she said this. The playboy chuckled a little with a bit of sweat going down his forehead.

“T-that can’t be real, right?”

“Why don’t you see during gym?”

Sophia had a scary expression and aura around her while smiling towards the student. Rena sighed and had to wait for gym to see what fate awaited the person.

After third period, lunch was served by the three chefs that Rune hired. To many, it was an extravagant feast in which they had never had before. It was extremely delicious and they all ate until they were full of food.

Sadly, after lunch, Rena’s next three periods were boring with the married couple Mr. and Ms. Ryden talking about history and literature. Then the gnome known as Mr. Leio talked about the math they would learn.

It seemed that the freshmen would learn about Human history, then Beast Folk in sophomore year, then Elven history in junior, then Majin history in senior. The literature would start with semi-easy books, but would get harder as they went from freshmen to seniors as well as learning grammar and different words. Math would teach them about foundations of math, then algebra I, then algebra II, then geometry. It seemed that the most fun class would be Rune’s.

Finally, the eighth period arrived and the playboy was sweating buckets. He was shaking uncontrollably as he saw Rune come out of the building. Rune quickly turned his neck to look at the person, whose name was Eli, and walked towards him.

“So, you doubt my strength and prowess, do you? Then watch and learn.”

Rune called everyone into the bleachers in which they could see Rune. One of the gym teachers was setting up some cage in front of Rune to demonstrate his strength.

“In this class, we will teach you whatever kind of fighting you wish. I will choose eight people who I deem best to be taught under me for the Honor’s fighting class. They will have special privileges such as staying up after curfew, being first in line to get weapons and armor, and the most special reward: to be one of the greatest fighters in the continent.

I have seen what many of you people call “strong”, but, to me, they are weak. I will demonstrate my strength.”

Rune raised his hand towards the gym teachers next to the cage. They nodded and pulled a lever. There was a sound like metal on metal and the huge cage opened up. Inside was a Cerberus. It’s three heads growled as it looked at Rune.

Rune just looked at it with pity as it had to face him. It leaped in an arc and seemed like it was about to crush him, but he waved one arm.

To many, it seemed like the arm disappeared and the Cerberus vanished. Then people could see that there was a huge indent in the ground as it something heavy slid across it and there, at the end of the skid marks, was the Cerberus.

It’s three heads were cut clean off and were next to Rune and, if nobody knew it was a Cerberus, they would have no idea what the huge lump of meat and blood dripping flesh was. People looked in fear at Rune who turned to the playboy, Eli.

“THIS!! This is why you don’t mess with me!! My strength is over 9,000!! This is what a human Demon King can do!”

Then he sighed and walked up to a stage in front of the bleachers. He cleared his throat and spoke.

“And, you see students, that is why I think that even the strong is weak. So. Is it not wonderful to be taught by a person who can end a city with a flick of the finger?”

Several people in the audience realized that Rune wasn’t going to kill them and they nodded with an open mouth, still starting at the carnage.

Eli was shaking and was swallowing his vomit. Rena started to clap and several others clapped even though they were as pale as a ghost.
