It took a while before KiAera spotted a clearing. Leading her team, she scurried toward it. Upon reaching the area, she surveyed her surroundings and immediately sniffed. She whiffed flora, wood… and something musky.
She crinkled her nose before she spotted a vein of water. She dashed alongside it until spotting a small purple pond surrounded by lush foliage.
KiAera let out a sigh of relief as her lingered on the clear water. "Finally," she muttered. "I'm so thirsty."
She approached the edge of the pond and crouched. Scrutinizing it first, her tail flame dipped into the pool. Immediately her specter fire boiled it as she willed it. She wasn't sure if it was necessary, but she cupped her paws, scooping water into them before bringing it to her mouth.
"Mmm..." KiAera murmured as she drank the refreshing liquid. "So good."
Amber stood nearby, watching KiAera with interest. She let out a soft chirp when KiAera finished drinking.
KiAera chuckled. "You want some too, Amber?" she asked.
Amber nodded and strode closer to KiAera. She then dipped her beak into the pond and took a long sip.
"LeeLee..." Amber whooped in contentment after she had finished.
KiAera smiled at the LeapLeap and patted her head affectionately.
"Osseod, drink! Drink!" the Osseods cried out as they began gathering around the body of water.
The Osseods darted to the pond's edge and began drinking from the refreshing waters. Their crystalline bodies glistened with delight as they quenched their thirst.
KiAera watched them as they splashed water at each other. "How cute," she murmured.
Delta turned to her. Its eyes sparkled. "Osseod, happy!" it declared. "Osseod, happy!"
"I'm glad," KiAera replied. "You deserve to be." She then looked around at the forest, wondering how long they would remain here.
KiAera glanced up through the canopy, catching glimpses of the sky—a swirling mass of colors that shifted from one moment to the next, painting the world in hues that made her head spin if she stared too long.
She shook her gaze away, refocusing on the task at hand. They needed to find shelter, somewhere defensible. The Skyrawltal was still out there, and who knew what else. Her eyes scanned the forest floor, searching for any signs of a den or a cave, anything that could offer them temporary safety.
Her gaze landed on a cluster of rocks up ahead, their surfaces covered in a thin layer of moss and lichen. It looked like a natural formation, possibly with a hollow beneath.
"More crystal! More crystal!" Beta Osseod's squeak averted her attention to it. It scurried forth, its legs a blur of movement as it beelined toward a crystal.
The rest of the Osseods quickly joined in, chasing Beta Osseod across the pond, splashing about and creating quite a ruckus.
KiAera shook her head fondly as she watched the Osseods scamper to another crystal to collect it. She glanced at Amber who was standing next to her, observing the scene with a bemused expression.
"LeeLee..." Amber chirped, nuzzling KiAera's cheek gently.
KiAera laughed and stroked the LeapLeap's head. "I guess they're enjoying themselves," she said. "It's nice to see them having fun."
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Amber nodded in agreement as she continued to watch the Osseods play around.
"We should get going," KiAera said, standing to her feet. "We still need to find some material for my clothes." She glanced down at herself, noting how she felt something missing…somewhat. She missed wearing her armor and uniform. However, it was odd, but it didn't bother her nearly as much as it should have.
Her fur bristled, something did not feel right.
"Kokobolko! Kootolba!" ["Kobolbos! Attack!"]
"Kill! Kobwour!" ["Kill! Devour!"]
The cries slashed through the air before a caboodle of Kobold-like monsters charged from the cluster of rocks ahead.

So, yeah, she would rather deal with these punks than contend with that feathered beast, despite none of them being the same as that wailing Kobolbo from a while back. She hadn't forgotten how it tried to prey on her and trade her off as a snack to those frilled beasts a while back!
With a snarl on her face, KiAera kicked into the air. She landed on Amber the LeapLeap's back and pointed her paw at the incoming hostiles. She estimated their numbers to be around twenty with a sweeping eye.
"Ready yourself, Amber! Focus on kneecapping their forces!" Her head swiveled to the Osseods beside her. "Beta, Delta, Pi! Focus your firepower on their legs! Slow them down!"
"Ossosods, fire! Fire!" The three crystalline mice exclaimed just a little before they spewed their [Crystal Spit] at the charging Kobolbos. Their assault caused a ripple of hesitation in the Kobolbo ranks, as a few stumbled back from the impact of the crystal projectiles.
Amber the LeapLeap bounded forth, wings flapping and leaping into the midst of the Kobolbos. With each strike of her powerful hind legs, she incapacitated several of the monsters, leaving them writhing on the ground in pain.
KiAera watched as her comrades followed her orders, targeting the Kobolbos' legs to slow them down. The Osseods continued to unleash their crystal attacks, aiming for the joints and limbs of the monsters to immobilize them.
With a final flourish of her paw, KiAera called out to her allies, "Stay focused, stay sharp! We will emerge victorious from this battle!" And with her ear shooting forth, she crashed her knuckles against the nearest Kobolbo's jaw, sending it crashing to the ground.

Ouch. Her personal calculations rang in her mind as she watched Amber overwhelm the other Kobolbos with her pecks and kicks.
Without knowledge of the Kobolbo's internal build, she only knew her own [3] TECH and [3] STR added to her [40] APeX. It all accumulated into a [46] powered strike against a [38] APeX Kobolbo. Not enough to defeat it, but the creature's condition did not seem to be in good shape after her attack.

Amber stomped onto the fallen Kobolbo with a taloned foot. The Kobolbo croaked and dispersed into particles of light, signaling its defeat. KiAera frowned as she turned her attention to the remaining Kobolbos.
She [Howled], rallying her comrades to press on and finish the battle. But her ears twitched as she gave her APeX another consideration.
'How else can I raise my STR...?'
