Episode 20 (Part 3)

Richard and Mindy hid after escaping from the clutches of the Mayor and his lackeys. The two peeked out from the walls as authority figures dashed opposite from them. Once the coast became clear, they had to plan on what to do next. Mindy suggested hiding and recuperating, so they can strategize. She knew the place where they could do just that.

She insisted Richard follow her, keeping it a surprise until they made it there. As they reached an apartment complex, she knocked on the door and stepped back, waiting for someone to answer. The door opened, as Kelly peeked her head to see who it was. Although happy to see them, she had no clue why they showed up. Mindy explained how they were on the run and needed a place to stay. Kelly agreed to let them come inside and hide for the time being.

Ken came back from the kitchen and had gotten up to speed about what went down. He also agreed to let them stay, but didn’t know if there were enough beds to spare. Richard suggested that he and Mindy take shifts on the couch to keep watch on any unsuspecting enemies. Everyone agreed on that matter.

Just as everyone was getting ready for bed, a flash of light from the corners of the windows caught the group’s attention. The beam of light appeared from a distance in the heart of the city. None of them knew what it could be for certain, as everything outside sounded muffled. Ken turned on the TV, and the first thing the group came across was a broadcast run by Maxie himself.

“Attention citizens of Biostance,” He started with the finesse. “I have some breaking news for you all. I’m afraid that the wanted supernatural terrorist is still at large, they've gotten more allies, and their numbers are growing.” He displayed Richard in his creature form on the side, along with Mindy. “They’ll be stopped no matter what, as their destructive behavior will soon end. For the sake of the city, the people, and the ones on my side that lost their lives ton—”

Ken shut the TV off and tossed the remote on the couch. “I can’t believe that guy.”

“I know, right?” Richard added. “Who does that jerk think he is by—?”

“Calm down, you guys.” Mindy interrupted. “Getting too hate-filled and envious won’t help. You’ll just fall for his trap.”

“You’re right, sorry.” Ken and Richard commented with their heads hung low.

“It’s fine,” Mindy said. “We just need to think about this alternative plan.”

“Let’s discuss this tomorrow morning,” Kelly suggested.

“I concur.” Ken nodded.

The four of them prepared for bed and slept for the night.

The next day, Richard and Mindy woke up as they slept on the floor. They got up and headed to the dining room. Richard and Mindy took a step back and hid behind a wall, watching Ken and Kelly wave goodbye to people in black and white suits as they closed the door

The four met up in the kitchen. The couple explained how some of Maxie’s employers made a search party on where the Usukui Puru were hiding. They also asked people from their homes if anyone had a clue about their whereabouts. Kelly and Ken tried their best to conceal the information from them.

After eating a hearty meal, the group went back to the living room to discuss their next plan. Mindy revealed that she still had the blue capsule at her disposal. She asked if Kelly could analyze the rest of the data, so they can see the rest of the footage, to which she agreed to in a heartbeat

The group split up for the time being. Richard met up with Mindy on the balcony as they stared out at the open blue skies. Since they were human again, neither of them had to worry about authorities capturing them for now

“We need as much information as possible. We got to know what we’re up against.” She said to herself. She didn’t notice Richard until he spoke up.

“Something wrong?” He asked.

“Oh, you scared me!” Mindy exclaimed, jumping back.

“Sorry about that.”

“It’s fine.” Mindy turned to look at the view. “So, what’s up? It seems like you got something on your mind.”

“Well...” Richard scratched the back of his head and hesitated in answering. He sighed in defeat. “Yes, I do. It’s about your sister.”

Mindy groaned and turned to face him. “Why are you obsessed with that woman?”

“What? Who said I was? I want to know why you hate her so much. From what I heard from her—”

“Wait, what did she tell you? There’s a chance she’s lying to you.” Richard told her a bit about last night. Mindy looked away and sighed. “Guess she was telling the truth after all.”

“Well, are you okay with answering? If not, I understand. I won’t bother you about—”

“No, it’s fine. Look, Lily can be stubborn and irresponsible, but she wasn’t as bad as she is now.”

“Meaning?”

Mindy couldn’t believe this. She didn’t want him entangled in their affairs, but also didn’t know how to explain it to someone like him. Mindy didn’t even know why she was doing this in the first place.

“It’s complicated, ok? You wouldn’t understand.”

“Of course. It may not be the same as yours, but I have an inkling of what it’s like. I have a brother,” Richard admitted, to Mindy’s surprise. “I was jealous because I was the unfavorite one. Unlike you, I can’t go back and make it up to him.”

“W—Why’s that?” Mindy asked, with narrow eyes.

It was hard to admit it, but he had to come clean and accept it. The burning mansion in his mind was no coincidence.

“My younger brother is dead, along with the rest of my family.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that.”

“It’s ok,” Richard replied, lowering his head and looking away. He walked over to sit in a chair and bury his face with his hands.

Mindy went over to comfort him when her body froze in place. She ended up getting a flashback memory from her childhood. She remembered being in a familiar position as him, feeling helpless and losing something near and dear. The only other person she talked to about her problems was… No, she had to let go of the past, even if he did end up betraying her in the long run.

Still, she never experienced something like death before. What could she say to make him feel better? Mindy sighed. She never did something like this either, but maybe just words aren’t enough. Mindy pulled up a chair and sat across from him. She placed a hand on his knee, prompting him to look up at her reassuring smile and honest eyes. The two stared at each other, not saying a word.

“Hey, you guys!” Kelly opened the door and called out to get their attention. “I got it finished!”

“Are you serious?” Mindy and Richard turned to face her and ask.

“Yes, I am, but you’re not going to like what you see.”

“If it helps us, then we don’t have a choice,” Mindy replied.

The three of them hurried downstairs and headed to the living room. Ken prepped up Kelly’s computer on the coffee table as everyone gathered around on the couch.

Kelly pressed the play button as the screen activated the video.
