Episode 17 (Part 4)

Fawn had a hunch something terrible was about to go down, but she couldn’t put her finger on it yet. Eventually, she stopped at a police station, a bunch of cars parked out on the lot. Fawn went closer to the walls and overheard muffled conversations from the other side. Something big must be down in there. She phased through the walls, hoping to hear the conversation clearer.

There, a bunch of officers gathered around the table in a large room to discuss.

The chief tapped his hand on the desk and grumbled under his breath.

“Jim, why are we here again?”

“Well...” Jim glanced back and forth, beads of sweat rolling down his face. “You see, I hired someone to help us out.”

“And when are they showing up?”

“Um, soon, but—”

“Spare me the details.” The chief interrupted. He stood up and pointed at him. “This better not be an excuse to get out of your duties.”

“I’m aware of that—”

“We don’t have all day. Every second counts! And if—”

The doors slammed open as everyone in the room turned to the source of the sound. They came face to face with a mysterious figure, who had a hood covering their head. The person closed the door behind them and walked closer to the room.

“You called?” They asked with a grin.

“Whoa, speak of the devil.” The chief muttered, his eyes widening.

“You made it!” Jim exclaimed, jumping off his seat.

“Sorry I’m late, I had stuff to do.” The hooded individual continued. Jim explained that the person over there is a well-known bounty hunter that never loses their target or prey. “So, have you heard about me? What’s the mission you have trouble with?”

The police chief pulled down a whiteboard that contained pictures and lines which pointed at one another. “Well, we need to catch this supernatural terrorist who keeps escaping our wrath.” He took out a pointer stick and tapped at a specific image of Richard as a blue blob.

“He has strange powers, super speed, and strength. We don’t know his true form, but...”

The hooded figure walked closer to the board, placed a hand on the picture, and grit their teeth. They took a step back and turned to face the others.

“I know who that is.”

“Already? James questioned. “Does that mean...?”

“Yes, I’ll take the case.” The person replied.

The chief walked over and shook their hand. “Congrats. Welcome to the team. What’s your name again?”

“Not important, I’d like to keep my identity and life stories a secret.”

“I see, that makes sense.”

After all this time, I’ll see you again soon enough. Now, where are you hiding, Richard?

Fawn, who overheard the whole spectacle, couldn’t believe her eyes or ears. Richard was going to get hightailed by this unknown fellow. She had a bad feeling about how future things would play out if she didn’t hurry. Fawn knew she had to find and warn him before that person got to him first, and put a permanent end to his search for justice and vengeance.
