Episode 16 (Part 1)

Richard and Mindy stood on top of a building and examined the entire city from down below. Lights shined from the premises, car sirens went off, and muffled sounds of people talking and shouting. Fawn enjoyed the sights while Richard’s heart dropped at seeing a long way down.

Mindy reminded him about their goal, searching and tracking their enemies from up above. Carlos would be hard to find in a big city like Biostance, so they had to find his underlings and slog their way up to him. The more foes from the group they take down, the closer they’ll be to getting to Carlos.

Mindy put on a pair of visors and activated the tracking beam. She examined the digital map and spotted something of interest.

“Alright, here’s our first stop.” Mindy pointed out.

“Ok, hopefully, we can handle all of this on time,” Richard said.

“Trust me, this will be worth it.”

“Well, how are we going to get around looking like this?”

Mindy handed him a mechanical ball, which formed into metallic suits that wrapped around their bodies as their eyes lit up.

“Here’s your answer.”

“Wait, you’re the Robot from before?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Darn it, Mindy, this is ridiculous! We’ll stick out more if we go like this!”

“No, no, this is foolproof, we’ll be fine. As long as we don’t do anything stupid that could get people’s attention.” She placed her hand on the earpiece. “I’m getting a signal from over there, let’s get going.”

Richard and Mindy scoped around the cityscape and examined each of the areas they came across. Richard had a tough time catching up, due to the unfamiliarity of this suit, causing him to get tired quickly. The heat built up as sweat dripped off his body. He tried to stand still but struggled to maintain posture while being in the metallic suit. Mindy took notice and stopped to wait for him to catch up to her.

“Richard, I don’t need to remind you what we need to do, but please take this seriously.”

“I am!” Richard exclaimed. “It’s just so hard to run around wearing this. How do you withstand being in it?”

“I’ve gotten used to it, but it’s difficult.”

“Well, are we any closer to our target?”

“Hmm, yes, I believe so. It should be around this area somewhere.” Mindy looked around, trying to find the brightest source.

“Hold it right there.” A voice called out to them.

The two turned to face Rick, approaching them. He straightened his police cap to get a better view of them and looked at them right in the eyes.

“You two look rather familiar.” He scratched his chin and squinted his eyes.

“Uh oh, this doesn’t look good,” Richard whispered, his muscles getting tense.

“If things go dire, get ready to run,” Mindy whispered back.

Rick’s eyes widened as he gasped. “Could you be, the legendary city defender, the Marvelous Intelligent Amazing Android Mia?”

“Ah…” Mindy’s face flustered, as she stuttered for a bit before answering with confidence. “Why yes, I am!” She placed one hand on her hip and used her other hand to do a striking pose. “I’m a peacekeeper of Biostance, Mia!”

“So cool!” Rick squealed. “Oh, and who’s that over there?”

“Oh, um, that’s my newly appointed sidekick, Dotty.”

“Dotty?” That comment took Richard aback. “That’s the best name you can come up with?”

“Zip it.” Mindy hissed through her teeth.

“And why am I your sidekick?”

“Whoa, I had no idea,” Rick mentioned, oblivious to Richard’s complaint. “I’m doing some night-watch around here while I wait for a friend of mine to finish with his business. So, what are you up to?”

“We were going to check out an underground hideout,” Mindy replied.

“Really?” Rick raised an eyebrow. “But I thought we handled the situation over there.”

“But I feel we should investigate just to be on the safe side.” Mindy insisted. “We could go back for more evidence and other important stuff.”

Rick hesitated for a bit before responding. “I don’t know. Oh, alright. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to check again. You have my permission to go to the area.”

“Thanks, sir, we won’t be gone long.”

Mindy and Richard headed off to the other side of the gate while Rick waved and watched them leave. He took off his hat and stared off into the sky with a smile on his face. She was also recent, but he admired her courage and determination to keep peace in the city, just like him. He didn’t care that the costume was tacky, her heart was in the right place.

Wow, I can’t believe I finally met her. He blinked, put his hat back on, and pulled out his phone to check on someone real quick. “James, are you almost done?” Rick typed in and pressed send.
