Sebas Aren - Class Advancement (Chapter 56)

Sebas Aren - Class Advancement (Chapter 56)

[The God of Afterlife asks how you plan to eat a fang of a Primeval Beast in secret when you’re being closely monitored by someone who exceeds your power?]

Sebas shrugged and splashed water overtop of Fatal Impact, scrubbing the surface of the bloody maul with the glowing blue water with his open palm.

[The Goddess of the Hunt asks why the floozy woman would steal Sebas’ belongings when he earned them rightfully during his hunt]

“Ask Humanity, his “children” know a whole lot about stealing.”

Sebas looked up at Avarië, who was smiling at him while he spoke to himself.

[The God of Humanity says that you’re a fine specimen to be speaking about humanity’s capabilities for theft and deception]

“Oh excuse me, your majesty,” Sebas began his tirade as he shoved his hand against the wet chunk of stone, scrubbing up and down against the dried-blood surface, “I forgive me for being such a prime specimen of theft and-“

[The Goddess of Mercy asks you to quit fighting]

“I’m sorry.”

“I forgive you,” Avarië said with a smile.

“Oh yeah, thanks.”

“Wasn’t talking to me?”

“Uhhh…”

“Do I need to ask my question again?”

“No… the obvious answer is because… I’m really awesome… and because my hammer is… useful?”

“Oh, I absolutely agree, you’re definitely not compensating for anything.”

“…”

“Do I need to ask my question again?”

“Yes.”

“How many achievements did you have for it to take so long?”

“Like… five.”

“Wow, that’s not bad for someone who’s… how long have you been an adventurer?”

Sebas paused his scrubbing and thought the question over, before asking a question, “What month is it?”

“Caramyra.”

“A little over two months?”

She smiled at him and held her hand on her chin, “And how did you manage that?”

“Uhh… with the grace of the gods?” He said, resuming scrubbing his hammer, not believing his own incomplete lie.

[The God of Alchemy calls you prideful]

“Don’t you have something to do?” Sebas said while looking down at his weapon.

[The God of Alchemy sighs]

[The God of Undeath calls you a cynic]

“Aren’t you above name-calling?”

“Having an argument?”

[The God of Mercy looks up from her prayer to listen to your response]

“No, I would never,” he said in a shameless lie.

“So… are you going to fight the dungeon boss?”

Sebas shrugged and kept scrubbing.

“Really, is that the best answer you can provide?”

“If I give you an inch, you’ll take a meter.”

“Don’t want me to find your magic beast fang?”

“Nope, sure don’t.”

[The God of Afterlife chuckles, saying at least you are an honest schemer]

“You know I’m not going to steal from you, right?”

“You know I don’t believe you, right?” Sebas said, half-mockingly

“Of course you wouldn’t, you haven’t trusted me since you found out I wasn’t some old wise man.”

“We don’t need to bring gender into this, Ava.”

“Oh? No? Willing to make a bet with a girl?”

“Depends.”

She tapped her chin.

“Here’s the stakes: I want you to kill five individuals, prisoners of my choosing, and if you can do it, upon swearing an oath, I will not interfere with your class advancement.”

“Change it to you, and your group of flunkies.”

“Oh? I’m not allowed to order my subordinates to steal from you?”

“No.”

“Ooooh~ so strict.”

“Nor are you allowed to call individuals outside of your organization.”

“That’s a lot to put in an oath…” she complained.

“It isn’t my fuckin problem.”

“You’re so mean Sebas, aren’t young boys supposed to be nice to pretty girls?”

“Yes.”

“Good! Well, I’m glad yo-”

“If you find a pretty girl instead of an old woman, I’ll be sure to be nice to her.”

“That’s a low blow.”

Sebas didn’t respond from his hunched scrubbing.

“Finnne.”

“What do I get if I win?”

“What do you want?”

Sebas washed his hands in the river and thought it over.

“Do you have anything good against magic?”

She thought for a moment before disappearing into the moonlight of the cavern.

Sebas sighed and lifted his great hammer out of the shallow river, inspecting it. Grit and blood had embedded themselves in several small holes across the stone’s surface, making it seem almost freckled.

He widened his eyes when Avarië returned with a small iron cuff, she held it out for him to observe.

----------------------------------------

[Mana Disruptor Cuff]

{Rare Artifact}

Effect: Upon equipping the cuff, the limb affiliated with the artifact will utilize the body’s Stamina Points (SP) to, upon contact with, activate the skill [Mana Shatter].

Requires: 5 Intelligence.

”An old and dilapidated artifact that was wielded by an ancient order in an age where magic was feared. This legacy was held in their shackles, which they wore and restrained their enemies with, to protect the world from mana. The cold and unassuming runes etched into the band are not just for decoration.”

----------------------------------------

“So, I get this; you and your group, and others not associated with your group won’t bother me with my class advancement, and all you ask is for me to kill five prisoners?”

“I am quite a benevolent assassin aren’t I?”

“Do I have to hunt them down myself?” Sebas asked an exhausted frown sat on his face.

Avarië shook her head with a smile, “No… that’s not entirely necessary…”

“What do you-…” Sebas turned around looking behind himself at her gesture.

A group of bound men, one halfling, two demihuman, one satyr, and what looked like a goblin kneeled down on the ground, some of them writhed in their restraints while others, like the bald halfling that Sebas smirked at, just sat there.

“Yo” Sebas said to the air, “anyone wants to sanction this bet or whatever?”

[The Goddess of the Hunt pipes up, sayin-]

“Oh, I thought I would do it; I didn’t know you knew of Fate Pacts?”

“Of course I do,” he lied, “but maybe you should explain them for our captive audience?” Sebas gestured at the bound prisoners.

Avarië chuckled and nodded, “Well, these are pacts that go beyond a written word, usually reserved for the right to a death match where “winner takes all” in a chosen event, however in minor pacts, we each set an oath to our side and resolve it with a challenge.”

“That sounds… incredibly annoying.”

“The recipient can always refuse,” she said, licking her lips, “but that’s no fun…”

“You’re being weird again…”

“From birth to death, we walk within a million lives, intertwined, as you, Oh God, are our final destination, God of Death, will you sanction our Fate Pact?”

[The God of Death looks at you from her acolyte’s shoulders]

Avarië frowned and started muttering to herself.

[The God of Death frowns at you.]

After speaking with her god a distance away from Sebas, she walked back toward him, a mildly upset smile paradoxically sitting on her face, “Looks like it won’t happen…”

“Undeath,” Sebas spoke, ignoring her, “you wanna Sanction this Pact?”

[The God of Undeath looks toward his sibling, and nods]

“On my being, I, Sebastian Iore Aren, will slaughter five prisoners in exchange for the Artifact, their bodies, and to be allowed safe Class Advancement without interference.”

----------------------------------------

[Arbiter: God of Undeath{???}]

[Acceptant Terms: Slaughter of 5 Specified Mortal Prisoners in exchange for 1 Specified Artifact and Absolute Defense of the Player’s Class Advancement Process in the case of the opposing Party’s faction, action, or involuntary action.]

----------------------------------------

Sebas gestured towards her with his hand, ready to shake it, and waited. A small window appeared in front of her, and she hesitantly spoke.

“Upon my being, I, Avarië of Chien, will choose the prisoners for slaughter and safeguard the opposing party if they complete the challenge.”

“And?”

“And give the opposing party an artifact.”

“Which Artifact?” Sebas asked impatiently”

“The Artifact “Mana Disruptor Cuff.”

[Challenger Terms: Selection of Mortal Prisoners for slaughter.]

----------------------------------------

“I accept,” Sebas said.

“I accept as well,” Avarië said quietly.

Sebas grinned and gestured.

She sighed, “You know, I could tell you that you were one of the prisoners you have to kill, right?”

Sebas’ expression hardened and he squinted, “Well, no because…” he put a hand to his chin and grumbled.

“Just don’t “smug” yourself to death, Sebas”

Sebas leaned against the metal bar of his hammer and waited for her.

“Your targets are the five prisoners in restraints in front of you.”

“Oh wow, I even get names to pair to the… hidden face,” Sebas said curiously, crouching in front of the blindfolded and gagged halfling.

“Yes… it’s reality after all.”

“Hey, can I undo this blindfold and stuff?”

She sighed at him, hiding her display of emotion with a gesture of her hand that was open to interpretation.

Sebas smiled widely and undid the gag and blindfold of the halfling in front of him.

The halfling man blinked a few times before reeling his head back in surprise.

“Hello~”

The halfling man took a moment to speak before addressing Sebas, “I have to say, and I’m sorry for saying it again, but you’re still one ugly motherfucker.”

Sebas spat on his face before twisting his body, slamming the gravestone against the halfling’s head, sending blood all around. The cat demihuman and the satyr panicked within their restraints, while the goblin chirped happily in its loose gag, speaking in some sort of trilling language Sebas didn’t understand while the wolf stayed silent.

“That was nice for me,” Sebas said, throwing Fatal Impact into the air, and watching it disappear into the air with a beam of light.

[The Goddess of the Hunt tells you that you should have cleaned it off, she exclaims that it’s drenched in blood and nasty!]

Sebas smiled and nodded, looking back towards Avarië “This was great, I wanted to do that for a while.”

Sebas looked in the pile and pulled out a small metal band, ripping it off of a bloody hand.

[Experience Blocker]

“Ooo…Nice.”

“Well?” Avarië asked expectantly.

“Hmm? Oh- oh right,” Sebas said, letting the bracelet attach itself to his wrist.

“Why did you do that?” She asked, confused.

“Huh?” Sebas half-asked, squeezing the neck of the Satyr, watching as it struggled in his grasp.

“I said why did you do that?”

“I can’t hear you over the sound of me strangling someone!!!”

[The Goddess of Mercy asks that the God of Death quit fighting.]

[The God of Death looks towards Mercy from strangling her brother, saying “What is the God of Mercy and one of the Six doing inside the space of a mortal?”]

[The Goddess of the Hunt says that she is also here!]

[The God of Death looks down towards the Hunt, and says yes, you are.]

[The God of Humanity says that he’s waiting for the mortal to get himself killed.]

[The God of Afterlife squeaks out that Humanity and the kid have a hateship]

Sebas ripped the Experience blocker off of the wrist of the Satyr and affixed it to his wrist.

“Why are you doing that?” Avarië asked with concern.

“Doing what?” Sebas asked, starting to strangle the next prisoner.

[The God of Afterlife says it means they like each other but they want to fight each other]

“That’s not true~,” Sebas said, squeezing down on the wolfkin’s throat, staring deeply into its blindfold.

“You know you could just kill them, right?” She asked, her concern growing at Sebas’ apparent disregard for efficient killing.

“What?” Sebas asked in a small shout.

[The God of Death throws her sibling to the floor, and scowls down at him, before joining beside Mercy to watch you]

“Dear fuck do not tell me you’re going to follow me around like a new lost kitten to the litter?”

[The God of Death asks if she should kill you]

[The God of Humanity thinks that would be wise.]

[The Goddess of Mercy tells everyone to stop fighting.]

“Oh excuse me! I didn’t know I could have a God join my fucking headspace and threaten my fucking life; nor can I do anything about it?” Sebas ranted while squeezing the life out of the wolf man in front of him, “Why the fuck is that allowed? I never asked for you all to show up and invade my mind space, I never asked to get cursed.”

[The God of Humanity rolls his eyes]

[The Goddess of Mercy asks you to calm down.]

Sebas snarled, “calm down? Calm down? CALM DOWN? I’M IN FUCKING JAIL!” He sucker punched the Feline-Kin Demihuman, before he ripped the Experience blocker off the Wolf-Kin, and affixed it to himself, “WHY SHOULD I FUCKING CALM DOWN, I’VE GOT A FUCKING BOUNTY,” he stomped on their stomach, “I’VE BEEN EXILED BY MY OWN FUCKING FAMILY, AND NOW MY FUCKING CONTINENT, AND I’M HOPING THAT I CAN SOMEHOW GET BACK IN TOUCH WITH MY OLD PARTY, BUT OH? WHAT'S THAT? THEY DON’T KNOW IM FUCKING ALIVE.” Sebas shoved his hand through the chest of the Demihuman, “OH BUT IT'S OKAY,-“

Sebas turned away with a snarl and kicked the goblin in the stomach, “I JUST WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE; I WANT TO BE ALONE, THERE'S TOO MUCH HAPPENING AROUND ME AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON,” he chased after the goblins corpse, and grabbed it by the foot mid-launch, and sent his body forward to slam it overtop the Feline-Kin’s lifeless body, over and over and over.

[By the terms agreed and the balance maintained, the Acceptant stands triumphant over the Challenger.]

Sebas slung the small goblin's body against the ground violently until his grip on its body launched it into a meaty thud as it flew behind him.

Sebas marched up to Avarië and held his hand out, impatiently holding his hand up and waiting. Avarië studied Sebas’ face while he fumed, his violent outburst seemed almost… Atypical, induced by something else, she softly held out the cuff and watched as all four Experience Blockers that were equipped to his arm sent blood out as they each embedded a spike through his arm, and started discharging electricity through his arm.

“Sebas-“

He turned around, scowling at her, the top of his mouth violently quivering as he stared at her. Something in the way he looked at her almost seemed as if he was hurt by her, “what do you want?” he grumbled out.

“Go to the farthest ends of the dungeon, you’ll find six different entrances to the third floor.”

Sebas turned away from her and wandered off into the forest near the graveyard.

[The Goddess of the Hunt asks “Why didn’t you say goodbye to the floozy?”, happy that she’s gone.]

“Not now Ihta,” Sebas said in a muttering grumble.

Sebas scaled a tree in the forest; it was practically charcoal like the rest of the forest but refused to buckle under its weight and allowed Sebas to ascend to its apex, where a large fang sat, embedded within the peak of the tree.

Sebas slung his weight while hanging on the tree, slamming his legs into the peak of the charred plant to topple it. He rode it down as it was felled, and squeezed the horn-sized tooth with an iron grip.

[The God of Death screams out “Why does he have a piece of the Dragon’s Legacy?”, clawing at her skull beneath her hair.]

[The Goddess of the Hunt shushes the God of Death]

[The God of Death looks down at the Goddess of the Hunt incredulously, before looking over to the God of Afterlife]

[The God of Afterlife nods, saying “We know, welcome to the club”]

Sebas huffed at the banter going on between the Gods. Looking down at the fang within his hand. Sebas raised the fang and bit into it, holding it steadily against his teeth while he ripped apart the Experience Blockers, stabbing his arm and the artificial lifeforms with the tip of the fang.

Sebas crouched on the ground and stabbed at their corpses with the round tip of the dragon fang, watching as their blood lit a bright blue.

“Oi, Alchemy.”

[The God of Alchemy looks up from his research]

“What do you want for four Essence Cores?” Sebas asked, placing the fang back in his mouth while his hand grabbed each of the small bright green lumps in between each finger, flashing them as if they were platinum coins.

[The God of Alchemy drools at the four Essence Cores you hold]

“My eyes are up here, bookworm.”

Sebas faked a scoff, and complained, activating [Barter] “Really? Give me 5 of them, and ten highest-rank health recovery potions you cheapskate.”

[The God of Alchemy sighs, and updates the offer.]

Sebas held the orbs up to the sky and watched as they disappeared, replaced by a brown bag that slammed into his chest, similar in appearance to someone who had a bag thrown at him. Sebas opened the satchel with an evil grin, not stopped by the fang holding his jaws open as he bit down on it.

Sebas sighed and looked at the fang. “I originally wanted to get Gis to put this on my Dagger or something…”

[The God of Humanity says it would have been a great weapon]

[The God of Afterlife says that you are the most interesting mortal in this era with a wicked grin]

Sebas stretched his body before leaning his head back and releasing the fang from his own, forcing the object down his throat with choking force until it began to pass through his esophagus.

[The God of Undeath asks if you ever considered the possibility it didn’t mean to physically consume the Fang.]

Sebas wiped the saliva off of his mouth with his fist and contemplated the point.

The beginning of his screaming was choked with a potion, drowning himself with the first of many while spikes launched out from inside of his body; energy attempted to escape from his body as each and every ripple of energy within his being shook his soul, his bones and nearly shattered his mind.

Sebas screamed into the neck of the potion bottle, breaking it beneath his hand while he flopped backward. The feathers on his body molted in an instant, most turning to ash or disappearing entirely as Sebas began to glow a violent mixture of vibrant sunset orange on random areas of his body as the explosive energy of the Dragon threatened to burst out of his chest; Horrific void-black sections of his body threatened to implode as each section of explosive light threatened his body. Sebas’ eyes rushed in and out from two extremes of pitch black to a vibrant gold that sent light in small whisps out of his sclera. He rolled over as his body rumbled and bubbled, violent gold and black shone from the horrific featherless skin of his wings.

[The God of Mercy holds her hands over her mouth, crying, and begs for you to let her shoulder your burdens.]

[Player has mentally declined.]

[Energy Feedback Loop has begun.]

Sebas felt as both energies filled his body, making him violently jerky as the ring around his heart expanded and shrank. During this process, both energies threatened him violently, but he healed off any skin that fell off in bunches, or any explosions within his body, and both energies locked themselves into the now gaping cavity that sat within his body. It was a primordial game of tag, and Sebas was the merry-go-round.

The Core in his chest glowed gold and black in a spiral, both threatened to explode or implode his still-breaking core; The new center of his existence as a monster. He looked up at the flashing gold above him, his featherless, fleshy face inhaled in pained gasps as he shoved his hand inside over the broken vessel and let his scaly fingers absorb the remainder of the potion.

Sebas looked up through his strobing and disappearing eyesight, and scowled at the elven woman who looked down on him from a hilltop with an expression resembling pity and worry.

He weakly held a hand in the sky, gold light flashing throughout the veins of his only limb where a middle finger stood on the monstrous appendage, prompting his visitor to place a hand over her mouth and disappear into the moonlight.

Sebas’ body shot out, limbs flexing and unflexing, increasing each involuntary motion in violence and rapid succession as the messages in his head violently threatened to split his head in half.

He finally fainted for the first time, only to wake up in a moment, still delirious and trying to scream with his frayed vocal cords. Finally, Sebas sat still and unbreathing.

A few panicked no’s followed, as a new highest-rank recovery potion was emptied over the entire length of his body.

[Internal Re-calibration Complete, Nervous System, Respiratory System, Muscular System, Skeletal System, and Partial Cardiovascular System functions have been restored.]

Sebas shot up and clutched his chest, releasing a wail of pain as his clawless limb dug into his chest. When no pressure in his chest was released from his inflicted wounds, he slammed his back against the ground until he was unable to sit back up, as an invisible force held him down.

Sebas cried as he writhed against the pressure on his body, while another potion drenched his upper body which began to bleed out of every tiny pore of his body. Writhing turned to lashing out, and lashing out turned to thrashing, and thrashing turned to biting at his surroundings.

Sebas’ vocal cords finally released a new sound; his head rolled backward and his throat expanded as he made a roaring howl, a pain-filled guttural shriek that promised violence, starting up and petering out as his consciousness faded and lit up over and over. The glow of Sebas’ body was ethereal, shining violently for the dungeon of undead, deep underground. His body slowly shifted from its meaty red cover into a smooth black shine over the entirety of his being. His teeth were spat out as he flung his black smooth head from side to side, talons and claws fell out from the insides of their sockets as new sharp nails grew in their place, turning into hard and sharp claws as they reached the air of the dungeon.

Sebas dug his growing hand forward, trying to scratch the hard skin as its pain was only equal to its irritability, he wanted to scratch the everliving fuck out of it. He whined as his assailant refused to let him harm himself or scratch whatever itches he felt. Sebas curled up against the pressure against his stomach and rolled to the side, forcing his foot into the ground with as much power as he was physically able to.

[Please avoid movement and sit still.]

Sebas ignored the mental voice and scratched across his body, where ash fell out from in between segments of the plates that lined his flesh. His small claws slowly scraped out the itchy shavings, revealing hardened interstices that let through the vibrant golden energy between each groove.

Sebas ripped out multiple hexagonal scales as the itchiness of his body became worse, he snarled the tiny growing teeth of his mouth in a disgusted pained expression as he ripped out the obsidian black scales with sinewy tendrils around the middle of his chest. Vibrant gold shone out explosively followed by the boiling blood from his cavernous chest, slowly illuminating the underground world with the energy radiating from his chest like a spotlight.

Sebas watched as his flesh sealed over, creating a new larger scale overtop of his core, veiny spirals engraved themselves overtop the pitch black diamond. Sebas lurched forward as his body spasmed again, loud crackling and snapping was audible, his torso enlarged, followed by his shoulders and limbs. Sebas screamed as his back violently popped, his spine stretched across his back to adjust to his new lanky body, fingers became spindly and long, similar to the arm it was attached to, while his legs buckled from underneath him, unable to properly support his body under the shaking of the bones in his body.

Another potion was poured over his body, somehow increasing the pain he felt in his body, engraving the pain on his now scaled flesh.

The itching returned, and small cracks were appearing across his entire body, before a second pair of wings launched out from his lower back, causing him to scream as flesh began to grow. Sebas twitched, face down against the ground as the now stretching limbs hardened with its contact to air, creating new scales against it and its twin.

Sebas had no ability to scream anymore, but new fractures and cracks spread around his body’s scales as down feathers sprouted across his body, emerging from their entrapped casing with bloody splattering.

Sebas felt another splash of a potion cover his back and mumbled explicatives as the painful liquid forced his scales to reseal around the down feathers as they emerged.
