Adam Rynard - Sewer Delving Slime Adventure (Chapter 47)

Adam Rynard - Sewer Delving Slime Adventure (Chapter 47)

[Quest: A Not-so-Shitty Slime]

[Description: The Sewers of Stamford, Oseas, hold hundreds to thousands of slimes that purify the waste of the residents of the fishing town—an unexpected influx of slimes that haven’t been introduced externally but from some unknown variable. You and your party members; Karri, Nilo, and Ari, are to find the source of the overflowing slimes, preferably before someone complains that slimes flood from another resident’s toilet.]

[Objective: Find the source of “Purifying Slime” overpopulation (0/1)

Optional Objective: Reduce the “Purifying Slime” population (561%/100%)]

[Reward: ???]

“I hate this,” Karri states.

“Why?” Nilo asked, “This has got to be the best-smelling sewer I’ve ever been in.”

“How many sewers have you been in Nilo?” Adam asked.

“About five?”

“The reason it smells so good is due to the flowers that grow around the dungeon the slimes are from,” Ari read out loud from a dungeon brochure.

“How does that work?” Adam asked, looking down the sewers while activating [Identify].

“The dungeon is similar to a national landmark, considered to be the greatest date spot and a beautiful place to just look at. Most perfume here is made by some who keep pet slimes and feed them the petals.”

“You can keep monsters as pets?” Adam asked while he focused on his [Swordsmanship], approaching the slimes.

“Do you need help?” Karri asked.

“No, they’re all Purifying slime, level one,” Adam said.

“It might be wrong to kill them,” Karri said.

Adam looked back at her, curious at what she meant.

“Well, they’re part of the sewer system,” Karri said.

Nilo strode up, and stepped on one of the slimes, popping it beneath her foot.

[Experience points have failed to increase]

Adam prodded the corpse with his sword, watching as the puddle lit in blue flames.

[You have Looted: 1x Purifying Slime Liquid]

Adam tapped his Inventory panel, and selected the clear liquid item, manifesting it in his hand. “They don’t even have any filth in them…” Adam said curiously in his inspection of the small glass flask of liquid.

“How did you do that?” Arietta asked, curious at the strange way Adam manifested the item.

“He’s magic,” Nilo stated flatly, kicking a slime away softly.

“We’re all magic, Nilo,” Karri retorted.

“How were you able to collect the slime’s liquid?” Arietta asked Adam

“Magic powers,” Adam told her while focusing on the expansive tunnel.

“We can’t die to level 1 slimes, right?” Adam asked his party without turning around.

“Even if there are a hundred of them, we’d probably be fine,” Karri said, looking where Adam was, taking careful steps on the concrete and brick paths that contain the empty river for filth, avoiding the middle section of dried dirt.

“What if there are more than a hundred?” Adam asked, poking his blade through the slimes that began to enter through the grates on each side of the wall.

[Experience points have failed to increase]

“Then they better pay us more money,” Nilo answered for Karri.

“If we do reach such a large amount of slimes,” Arietta began to speak, pulling a rapier out from her belt, “I know light magic, however, I’m not entirely confident I have enough mana to destroy what is essentially a sea of slimes… without a mana recovery potion.”

“We don’t need to kill all of them,” Adam said.

“Just most of them, right?” Nilo asked.

“Correct, one point for Nilo.”

The group proceeded through the sewer system, breaking most of the brainless slimes that slowly began to flood the sewers.

“Adam, shouldn’t you be (Looting) them?” Nilo asked.

“I mean, I can… However, the slimes might need it more. If that makes sense?”

“This stuff better not be worth a million gold or something,” Nilo grumbled, prodding one of the crushed slimes.

Arietta and Karri held the backline, arrows would kill slimes that went unnoticed or tried to attack Nilo or Arietta. Karri spoke to Ari as they fought the waves of increasing slime.

“So, if it isn’t something really personal, I need to ask you about your relationship with Sebas.”

“What do you mean by relationship?” Ari asked, hiding a blush.

“Why are you looking for him Arietta?”

Arietta’s face darkened as she began to speak, albeit reluctantly. “A long time ago… A really long time ago, there used to be four of us… prospective heirs of Disel.”

“Prospective Heirs?”

“All of the firstborns, we grew up together, practically inseparable, we grew up together, exploring newly created dungeons, which was a stupid thing to do, now that I look back on it.” Arietta chants a spell.

“Creatio lucis, percutite eos qui vos blasphemant.”

[Party Member: Arietta Lightbringer has cast the spell on you: “Enchant Weapon; Light”]

A large beam of light began to shine from Adam’s broadsword, lighting up the ever-increasingly dark round tunnel they entered.

“What happened?” Karri asked, engrossed in topics she normally would never have anything to do with, something that’s practically outside of her “proper” social circle.

“It was… Sebas’ tenth birthday, when… Nick died.”

Karri couldn’t respond, turning over to Arietta.

“Someone died?”

“One of the “Heirs,” She corrected.

“...What happened?” Karri asked while nocking an arrow, aiming for a large slime.

“I’m not certain…”

“All of a sudden, Nick… Nicolas changed, he started acting out, using his skills to mess with Sebas all day.”

“That sounds like a common thing for a child to do, no?”

“Not Nick.”

“Why not Nick, it seemed like he chose a proper time to embarrass Sebas?”

“Nick… didn’t embarrass people, he was kind.”

“Forgive me for saying but-”

“I know what it sounds like.”

“You think there was some sort of foul play?” Karri realised.

“I don’t know what sick fuck would manipulate a child into acting out, but with the infinite possibilities that skills bring to our world…”

Karri contemplated, placing a finger to her lip before losing three arrows into a slime, a glowing golden arrow popping the creature from inside.

“... what happened to Nick?”

Karri choked while remembering, her face glowered as she remembered.

“It was a sparring match, but… Nick said something to Sebas and the way he looked at me… It’s like whatever he said ripped his soul out of his body.”

Karri placed a hand on Arietta’s shoulder, and looked over at Adam, “Can we take a rest?”

Adam looked back, seeing that Arietta was in distress, and nodded. “Let's retreat.”

----------------------------------------

“I’m sorry,” Arietta murmured to Karri.

“No, I shouldn’t have asked you about this mid-mission.”

The group took solace near the entrance of the now-sealed sewers. Karri and Arietta sat next to one another while Adam and Nilo played with the glowing sword.

“The way he looked at me-”

“You don’t have to finish,” Karri said, holding her in a small side hug.

“It’s like whatever was said to him, he was killed from the inside out… I don’t know what you can tell a child like that to make them break like that,” Ari looked over at Karri.

She turned away in guilt. “Then Sebas killed him.”

Karri’s Eyes went wide, “Sebas did?”

“He launched forward, hate had filled his eyes, and everyone was cheering when he awakened, he was winning one-sidedly against Nick until the match was abruptly ended by him ripping Nick’s throat out with his teeth.”

“That makes sense, cause his class is the Biter, right?” Nilo said while she and Adam clashed blades.

“Nilo,” Karri said in an admonishing tone.

“What?”

“They’re having a serious moment,” Adam said.

“Ohhhh… Feelings…”

“I don’t know if it was Nick or Sebas’ fault,” Ari said while looking at Karri.

“What do you hope to find out?” Karri asked.

“... I don’t know. I mainly want to speak with Sebas… I only saw him once in the capital before his sudden and latest death that didn’t seem to stick.”

“You’d be surprised, he has this thing where he fails to die often.”

“Do you think he’s okay?” Ari asked.

Karri began to speak before properly thinking about it. “Knowing him… he’s probably gone and done something to get himself in trouble.”

[Perspective Shift; Sebas Aren (LV 24)]

----------------------------------------

Sebas Aren stood behind a barred steel cell door, holding a set of folded clothes. Inalos spoke with him from behind the cell’s entrance.

“I’ll speak with you tomorrow, the Church of Mercy will confirm your status as an agent directly from the Goddess, however, you’ll still have to pay the fine for the killings.”

Sebas sighed.

“What is the matter?”

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“I’m in prison.”

“Well, as long don’t cause trouble while you’re in here, and if you’re not lying about your status, you’ll be out by sometime tomorrow.”

“Yippie” Sebas mumbled sarcastically, looking at the clothes he held.

[Prisoner Uniform]

{Common Clothes}

[“Clothes made of cheap material that were designed to fit a smaller Goliath, hopefully, this will fit you, they didn’t have a very good selection for “Nightmares”]

Sebas put on the strange orange outfit and spoke with Inalos. “What do I do about my prosthetic?”

“What kind of modifications did you need to be done to it?” Inalos asked him.

“Well… it’s currently the size of a human male’s arm at the age of 17… and I’m not… Human.”

“Yeah, I can imagine how that might cause issues… Look, if nothing happens and you’re not a liar, I’ll take you to someone.”

“Sounds good to me,” Sebas said with a grin, “How are the kids doing?”

“It’s a bit difficult to find lodging for a few hundred children,” He began, stroking his bald chin, “We plan to get word from Sydil, the Capital, where we’ll hopefully get a subsidy for them.”

“A subsidy?” Sebas asked, not knowing the word.

“Hopefully they’ll give us money to feed hundreds of children.”

“Oh, gotcha… what about the Red Pearl?”

“It’s yours, we confirmed it by the message the god sent when we tried removing anything off of that ship.”

“Oh that's awesome, It really does belong to me?”

“As long as The Goddess of the Hunt lives to uphold that, we can’t touch it.”

“That’s awesome.”

[The Goddess of the Hunt says it better be]

“Alright, I gotta go… kid? Kid,” Inalos said again, awkwardly confirming it.

“Why with the indecisiveness?”

“Shifters just don’t look like the age they are.”

“Thanks, I guess?” Sebas said, as Inalos left.

Inside the cell, concrete walls with magic inscriptions that faintly glowed surrounded a tattered bed that floated, with no legs to tie anything around or sharp implements to break off. Sebas sat down and inspected the bracelet on his wrist.

It took five minutes to get any proper information from the strange artifact, but it finally showed weak and wobbly text above the object.

[Experience Blocker]

[??? Artifact]

[“Created by ??? the ??? uses ??? to ??? the players ???”]

[]

[Experience has been extracted]

“What the fuck.”

Sebas pointed his hand inward, scratching the object with his claw.

[Tampering with the “Experience Blocker” has caused “Electrical Discharge”]

Sebas screamed as the bracelet began to flood his body with electricity, his voice filled the halls and valleys of the prison until it was filled with jeering prisoners who responded to his pain as “Initiation.”

[The Goddess of Mercy prays for you]

“I know you do, just… make sure I get the hell out of here please.”

[The Goddess of Mercy says she will]

[The Goddess of the Hunt asks why you didn’t say she was the one who gave you the mission. She would have lied for you, She states]

“Ihta, where the hell is your church in the first place?”

[The Goddess of the Hunt says that is not important]

[The God of Humanity laughs at the Hunt]

[The Goddess of the Hunt asks Humanity why he’s still here, her disciple is no longer human and doesn’t need “old man germy divinity” infecting his “status panel”]

[The God of Humanity says he is keeping an eye on a potential Demon King Candidate.]

[The God of Afterlife calls “Bullshit”]

[The Goddess of the Hunt states that her Disciple couldn’t become the Demon King even if he wanted to, he is not a Demon.]

“What if I kill a demon and offer its heart to you and get another blessing?”

[The Goddess of the Hunt says that is just silly, one’s body can’t handle more than one blessing, especially when you nearly died when you took the first one.]

“So I can’t just go hunt every single monster and get you to transform me with their parts?”

[The Goddess of the Hunt asks where the divinity will come from.]

“I don’t know what that means.”

[The Goddess of the Hunt says “Exactly, so Shush”]

[The God of Humanity says it isn’t an entire impossibility.]

[The Goddess of the Hunt claims the ability to “Fuck you up, old man”]

[The God of Humanity groans about non-human races.]

[The Goddess of Mercy Prays for you]

“So, tell me why you guys are here anyway?”

[The Goddess of the Hunt says “She originally planned to make you her Apostle, you killed the White Stag, despite it not growing up, it is a Legendary being in her Doctrine.”]

[The Goddess of Mercy states “She worries about you”]

[The God of Humanity shrugs it off, saying “It is not for you, idiot.”]

[The God of Afterlife claims, “You’re entertaining”]

“Afterlife, Do you not have things to do?”

[The God of Afterlife says “He can work when he is dead”]

Sebas chuckles.

A loud buzzer sounds throughout the cells, and a bright red light begins to glow on the floor in a beam flush to the ground.

[Please report to the dungeon, Analyzing your body.]

[Quest: Dungeon Duty]

[Description: Report to the second floor of the dungeon, you are to slay 24 “Undead Hound(s)” or your Sentance will increase from “Undefined” to “Three Weeks”]

[Reward: One Day removed from your Sentance, Meal Services, no penalty]

[Failure: Increase in Sentance time to “Three weeks”]

“What the fuck.” Sebas said, looking at the panel that popped up in front of him.

The depths of the sewers revealed to Adam, allowing him to lead his group further into the surprisingly clean underground. Adam’s skill, [Identify] revealed the creatures that stayed outside the mist of the light that glowed from Adam’s blade.

“Karri? What is a Slime King”

“That would be the most likely reason why there are so many fucking slimes,” she said in unnatural anger.

“What’s our plan?” Nilo said with increased volume while slamming her feet and dagger on slimes, “I’m not exactly a front liner!”

Adam nodded at her, impressed by her adaptability, Despite the almost infinite amount of slime slowly encircling the four of them.

The next arrow in Karri’s hands began to glow with a bright light, illuminating the arrow while the trio defended themselves from the slimes. The bright spear shot through the air, illuminating the circular hallway and making the light seemingly run down the hall as the ring of white launched down the tunnel, only to make the transparent creature turn into a miniature sun, only with a large blue sphere similar to a crystal ball to be visible from the shadows that it created.

“I’m getting sick of these fucking balls of invisible garbage!” Nilo yelled desperately while she fended off the creatures.

“Adam if you could hurry up that would be appreciated!” Arietta yelled as he dashed down the hallway.

Adam didn’t respond to either one, as his blade began to glow brightly while he focused on the skill [Hero’s Strike].

[Hero’s Strike: Triple-Slash has been activated]

Three large glowing slashes bisected the king slime into six different parts, causing light to ripple down the tunnel with each slice of Adam’s blade. A large blue sphere fell to the ground, sliding into six pieces like a magic trick with a deck of cards.

Adam rushed backward, charging an additional [Hero’s Strike] to assist his party, where his new ability seemed to augment his skill once more. Three beams of light launched off of his blade, taking out several slimes as the razor-sharp slashes rode the air, and passed harmlessly over his party members.

“... Does anyone want to be the princess of the sewer?”

His party members didn’t honor that stupid question with a response.

“Well… that was more than enough excitement for one day,” Karri said.

“I can't believe I almost died to slimes…” Nilo said.

“Oh don't be such a baby, you wouldn’t have died, but you might have been extremely burned!”

Nilo and Karri looked over towards Arietta in confusion.

“They’re able to dissolve just about anything, so you would have probably been burnt from their slime juices.”
