CHAPTER 26: THE CONSPIRACY IN THE SHADOWS

Connection Restored!

----------------------------------------

'Sir, sir! I-it's connected, it's connected!' excitedly exclaimed a griffin, working tech support. His bright eyes visible behind his rectangular framed glasses with a wide smile as he turned around to inform the Senior black dragon.

The dokkaebi appeared from behind and showed a menacing grin, 'R~eally now? That's great! You really are wonderful, especially deserving of a promotion!' he said clapping his hands.

The griffin showed an embarrassed expression at the praise though for some reason he felt a chill run down his spine,

'Oh, thank you sir! But I was just doing my job.'

'My, my, aren't you the humble one? Truly worthy of praise', the dokkaebi said.

The griffin looked at him happily.

'But there's something I don't really understand...' continued the dokkaebi rubbing his chin.

'Yes, sir? Please ask', replied the griffin, enthusiastic yet confused.

The dokkaebi's expression distorted to one of threatening rage, 'What I don't understand is why you're still gawking and yapping here, and not pulling up the surveillance footage!'

The griffin's expression turned to one of horror, his face growing pale as the dokkaebi continued berating him,' Do you think you did something amazing?! No! The only way for the connection to be restored is if they've left the blind spot! Who knows what they've learned?! Did you even pay attention when you were being explained the system as an intern?! How are you even at this position?!'

'Uh-I...', the griffin started.

'You're frightening the young one, please stop abusing you're authority. It's a very bad habit', said the kitsune entering the room.

She turned to the griffin and gently said, 'Please dear, quickly do as he said. It's very important to know how much damage this variable caused'.

'Y-yes ma'am! Right away!' said the griffin as he typed away at the keyboard, regaining his spirit.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

The kitsune made eye contact with the dokkaebi and rolled her eyes at him. He raised his eyebrows and shrugged his shoulders with a smile.

While they were having this exchange the loading was complete and the screen showed the image of the group at the entrance of the Snowy mountains.

'They're at Yuki Xue Shan! That means they already know where to go next! Who knows what they've learned!' said the Black dragon.

'Wait, zoom in on the image', instructed the kitsune as the griffin followed her instructions.

Her eyes moved to the orb in Jason's hand and the dragon resting on Alice's shoulders.

'That's...that orb. I remember it was a map made by Aylin. Whereas, the dragon...', she cautiously looked back at her colleague, then continued, 'It looks like the one raised by Yuki, it's Snow, your...'

The dragon interrupted, ' Stop. Whatever you're about to say is currently irrelevant and unnecessary. We should focus on how this is possible. Because it could mean those rebels left a way out. They betrayed us even in their last breaths.'

Suddenly, a voice loud, containing a hint of amusement resounded through the room,' It's their nature to go against the system after all. You should've expected this much.'

Those present in the room all got down on one knee and the black dragon said, 'My king! You are indeed wise. I couldn't possibly compare to your foresight'.

The dokkaebi shook his head at the dragons words.

The voice replied, 'So you are stating that you aren't competent enough to be at this position then, and using it as an excuse rather than accepting and correcting your mistake'.

The dragon realized what he'd implied and quickly said, 'N-no, I didn't mean that. I-I apologize for the over sight. I shall not make the same mistake again. We'll get back to work.'

The voice was not heard again, so they considered the silence as a sigh of agreement.

The dragon immediately stood up and instructed, 'Quickly check their vitals and the level of their awakening!'

'Yes, sir!' the griffin checked and stated, 'Their conditions seems to have significantly improved. They've all formed cores, and their ability awakening is from 5% to 20% already'.

They jolted at the information.

The dokkaebi laughed, 'Hah, they're monsters.'

The kitsune said, 'How did they manage that in three days when it took them a decade to reach even 5%?'

'It seems like those traitors left behind something very important for them at the blind spots. Perhaps we can use this to save our time instead. Whatever they found can speed up their awakening, maybe even have it reach a 100% at a phenomenal speed', mused the dokkaebi.

'But it's a risk, who know what they find out there', cautioned the kitsune.

'They'll find out anyway, one day. It's something we can't avoid. Risks are acceptable when the pros outweigh the cons. Think about it, we assumed it'd take centuries before they manage to fully awaken but here we have a chance to get it done in decades, maybe less', said the dokkaebi excitedly.

'They have reached the 30 year goal in 3 days so let's do it this way', agreed the dragon.

The kitsune couldn't argue against this and decided to agree as well. They considered it acceptable since the King didn't deny it either.

'I suppose we'll have to watch history repeat itself then. Five anomalies from the same world, gaining power in the blind spots. The only difference is that this time we want it to happen', said the kitsune with a far away expression on her face.

'Then, since it's a majority agreement, let's send out instructions to them', said the dragon.

'Wait, but what the 4th blind spot of the underworld. They don't have access unless they die. We can't have that happen', reminded the kitsune.

'Hah, I suppose we'll have to have them reach completion through time and experience for that part. But we can still send them to the accessible one's', decided the dokkaebi.

The kitsune nodded her head.

'Well then, send out the instructions!' ordered the dokkaebi.

'Yes, sir!' replied the griffin, getting to work.
