A Journey Begins

“Hello young trainer. I am here to help you start your journey.” Oak said to me as I opened the door. He was dressed as you would imagine him to be when you started any game he was the one that gave you your starter pokemon.

“Oak, what…” I tried to say but he cut me off.

“Professor Oak. Someone took me out of my retirement.” He said, grinning at me.

“Alright. Professor Oak, come in.” I said as I allowed him to enter. We sat in my living room where he put an egg inside an incubator along with a pokedex, a laptop and a few pokeballs on top of the coffee table we had there.

“As you know, you are kind of in a special situation. Usually new trainers receive either a starter pokemon from a lab or they already had a pokemon before starting their journey. You weren’t allowed to have a pokemon by law and we can’t give you a starter one, hence this egg. He will hatch the moment we take it off this incubator he is in.” He explained it to me. I understood all that he implied. My pokemon would have 0 training. He would be way weaker than the pokemon other people would have at this point in their journey.

“I get it.”

“Also, take this pokeball. It’s a special one.” he said as he gave me a pokeball that was clearly heavier than a normal one.

“What is this?”

“That pokeball is the most secure pokeball in existence, as far as I know. Once you catch a pokemon with it, the pokeball will lock on your DNA and will never be able to be moved more than a meter or two from you. It will also emit a pulse that will make your pokemon think you are always near them. I think the radius is around 10 kilometers.” He happily explained to me.

“This sounds expensive.”

“I could give you a thousand of those and not make a dent on my bank account. Not that they have that many made yet.”

“Well, thanks. I guess it wasn’t easy. You could barely get any data from me, right?”

“Bah! Not a problem. This just shows that we didn’t learn everything about pokemon yet. Now continuing, this is a pokedex. I don’t have to tell you about it, right?” He said as he pointed to the red device near the egg. It was an updated version of the 4th generation pokedex, I think the ones you would find in the Sinnoh games.

“Yes, didn’t think my request would actually be heard.” I said as I took it and registered my trainer card in it so it would become my pokedex.

“Most kids just use their Rotom phones for everything. I am still surprised you don’t.”

“If something happens to the Rotom almost every function of the device stops working correctly. I don’t want my pokedex, much less my phone to suddenly stop working if something happens to the Rotom while I am in a pinch.”

“Well, it’s rare for such things to happen but they do. So I guess I can’t fault you for being cautious. Anyway, I think it’s time for you to get your partner. I am sorry but I have no idea what the pokemon will be. It was hard enough getting one that would be able to hatch on command.” he said as he pointed me to the egg. I wasn’t going to complain no matter what came out. He already went out of his way to do so much for me, no reason to be a brat.

I carefully took the egg and began to caress it. Like I was told, it took less than a minute for it to begin to glow and hatch. To my surprise what came out was a small charmander that was all too happy with me. I don’t really know why but I began to cry tears of happiness.

Oak took the laptop, did something and turned it back to me. There I saw Green and Blue.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“Hello kid. I see you liked the surprise.” Green said to me with smugness.

“Hello dear. Are you alright? Also, nice clothes.” Green said to me.

My clothes were similar to the ones Black used in the first Black & White game. I liked his style and these clothes had a nice function to regulate temperature. No matter if it was freezing cold or blazing hot I would still be comfortable. The only difference is that my jacket was red as it was the only color available. I also didn’t have a hat. I don’t like hats. I have no idea how people with long hair use hats. My hair is barely on my shoulders and I feel strangely bad putting anything on top of it.

“But how? A charmander egg can take from 5 to 10 months to hatch at random.” I said as I dried my tears.

“I have friends, you know. Also, that is not any charmander. That’s my partner’s kid. Take good care of it.” Green said as his Charizard appeared on screen and said something that my charmander looked to take to heart.

“Yeah. Catch and go on an adventure already. Nobody should have to stay cooped in their house for so long.” Blue said, hurrying me to go out.

“Well, are you ready?” I asked the charmander.

“CHAR!” He happily said to me. I took the special pokeball Oak pointed to me and pressed on Charmander’s forehead. He happily got inside. The pokeball shook just once.

My pokedex suddenly updated, showing that I now had a pokemon registered to me. It also had some information about my pokemon, like gender and approximate levels of power, not that I need it. I could feel them myself. Once I checked everything once I sent my Charmander out once again.

“Little guy. Your name will be Blaze. We are going to travel the world and become the best. Are you ready?” I asked Blaze. He puffed some fire showing he was ready.

“Look at it. He is saying that is going to take you on, darling.” Blue said to Green.

“He can try but I will not hold back.” Green said.

“Well, no sense in just delaying now. I can say how happy I am with everything. I promise to make all of you proud. I will also look at what is happening to me when I can.”

“Enjoy your adventure first. You deserve it.” Blue said to me.

“Yeah. And I believe we will see each other in the conference, right? Our kids plan to at least try to get there once from this side but even if they don’t we will go see you. I know you have what it takes to get there.” Green said to me.

“What if he wants to participate in contests?” Green ask.

“We go to. Their respective conferences happen one after the other after all.”

“I plan on at least trying a bit of everything.” I said.

“Well kid. Then you can go. Don’t worry about the house. Me and Daisy will keep it at least clean.”

“Thanks everyone… Blaze, let’s go. We need to train you a little.” I said as I ran out of the house with him following me. Of course after I put everything I had to in my bag.

Professor Oak

“I can tell he still had a lot to say or to feel but good call on just making him leave.” I said.

“The sooner we can get more data, the sooner we can understand what happened.” My grandson said to me.

“Any leads yet?”

“Nothing new. It was a pokemon but nobody knows which pokemon and we don’t know exactly why he was the only one left alive. Everyone looked everywhere and we didn’t even find rumors of people in the same situation as him at any point in time.”

“Well, at least we don’t have to fear for his safety. He is a prodigy if I ever saw one.”

“Yeah. Kid is too good.”

“Reminds me of you and Red when you two left for your journey.”

“That’s you just getting old. I am the best and I am going to prove it when we can understand what is going on.”

“I am sure he is itching to finally have a rematch after your last draw.”

“Probably. But let’s drop this topic. Did you manage to get the files?”

“Yes, they should be arriving on your side at any moment.”

“Do you really think Kyogre was the one that saved him? Ruby and Sapphire checked on the guy and he was still sleeping.”

“It wouldn’t be the first time a copy of a legendary pokemon appeared out there.”

“Can’t argue against that. I am going to check the guy with Hoopa to see if something happened. He showed signs that he is still alive and if there is a pokemon that could summon a Kyogre it would be him.”

“Well, good luck. I will see you personally at the end of the year.”

“Thanks. See you then Gramps.”
