Ch 19

Ryuze just stood there, eyes blinking in silence over Eugene’s suggestion. Not knowing what to do in this awkward situation, Eugene continued. “I mean if you want to. Though I think you should take a break as well. You just seemed exhausted after all.”

The Dragonoid needed a few more seconds before he was able to respond to Eugene’s offer. He wanted to refuse, after all someone needed to keep watch in the house. But it’s not like he would dare go against his lord. So he reluctantly relented, “…. As you wish Lord Eugene. What must I do to ‘relax’ my lord?”

Eugene was taken a bit back from Ryuze’s question. It’s not exactly one most people would ask. The boy stammered, trying to figure out how to answer him. “U-uhm what is it you usually like to do?”

The Dragonoid tilted his head, not sure how to respond to that. “I…don’t know. I have never been given any opportunity to take a break before. I was always given an assignment to accomplish and when I was in between one I was always on standby, ready for any surprises”

Eugene just looked confused; he started to wonder what kind of life Ryuze lived. He wanted to ask him, but he didn’t think it was a good idea since they only knew each other for a week. Now that he thought about it, Eugene wondered why he would refer him as his ‘lord’. He didn’t think of himself as one in high society. Even with his house, it’s not like any of his family were in some high-ranking positions.

This thought only got him to wonder about the rest of his familiars. At first, he thought that it was something common among the relationships between the summoners and familiars. But after seeing how other familiars act it seemed there were more about how summoning works than he first thought.

For now, he needed to figure out how to get out of this awkward situation. How was he going to show the Ninja Dragonoid how to relax. After some thinking, he decided to just go with a simple suggestion, embarrassing as it may be. “W-well if you don’t mind, maybe you could join in some of the activities I enjoy.”

Ryuze simply nodded, not finding a reason to deny his summoner’s request. Though he didn’t really have much enthusiasm for it. To everyone’s surprise Sife had jumped into the conversation, awake from his nap.

“Mind if I join in boss, I am curious what kind of stuff you enjoy. ~”

“O-oh uh sure!” Eugene nervously responded.

“Question. May this unit request to join in these activities as well? This unit wishes to better understand Master Eugene’s desires better.”

Eugene felt a bit cornered; he already was nervous and a bit embarrassed to show his interests. Nonetheless he relented, not wanting to disappoint his familiars. “O-ok…. uhm so I guess we’re doing this.”

The boy racked his brain on what he should show them first, pressured by the thought of what they would think. But he finally relented, not wanting to leave them waiting.

He decided that the first thing he would show them would be his collection of comic books. Series of books that are mainly illustrations depicting a story across the pages. Many of these books were thin and very easy to hold but Eugene usually prefers thicker editions as he always liked taking hours going through several chapters and being engrossed in the artwork as they tell their stories.

He had a closet full of these books, organized by different genres and series. He was surprised to see that his familiars looked interested in them. He wasn’t really expecting that.

He didn’t want to waste this chance so he started to try to sell them to the fun of the books. “Feel free to come here if you’re interested to read, I have different types of genres and if you want, I could recommend a few for you. Oh, but if you find any that have the same title but different numbers next to it you should start with the book with one next to it otherwise you might get confused on the plot.”

Eugene finished his explanation before he remembered something. “Oh, but please be careful with them! It’d be bad if they get damaged.”

Abdul’s ‘eyes’ were lighting up, more than likely scanning them. “Understood Master Eugene. This unit will endeavor to handle these ‘comic books’ with care.”

Sife was giving off a big smile, already looking through the selection before deciding on a popular romance series. “I see, they really improved in the quality of books from last I saw them. To think they have pictures of them! Don’t mind if I do. ~”

Having chosen his book, the bull Beastman was already going to lay on his favorite spot on the couch, excited to start on the story.

Eugene seemed relieved that Sife found the comic books enjoyable at least. On the other hand, Ryuze’s gave an indifferent expression on his face.

“They remind me of the scrolls we used back in my home world to exchange information my lord. For what purpose do these ‘comic books’ serve?” He genuinely asked, showing off his lack off awareness of enjoyment.

Eugene was quickly trying to figure out the right words to say to the Dragonoid. “Oh! Uhm…. Well I guess there really isn’t any practical purpose to them from what I know…. It’s just for fun.”

Ryuze tilted his head, thinking about the comic books. “Hmmmmmm”

Feeling like he was losing him, Eugene quickly jumped to the next activity he had planned. “W-well if you don’t like that there’s always video games!”

The Dragonoid turned his head more to the side. “Video games? I know of shogi, though I do not think I have the mental fortitude to play such games.”

“Well, it’s not shogi. It’s uhm… how do I describe it?” Eugene was a loss for words, unable to figure out how to properly convey what a video game is.

That was when Abdul stepped in, “Explanation. A ‘Video Game’ is a type of recreational game played electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program on a monitor.”

“Electronic? .... Monitor? …. ah, you mean those devices I’ve seen around with the glass cover? Hmm sounds complicated.” The Dragonoid pondered.

“Why not see them and try it out?”

Ryuze lightly bowed. “As you wish lord Eugene. Lead the way.”

Eugene nodded before bringing them to a large drawer he keeps around in his room and next to his television. He opened one shelf and inside was an array of plastic containers that contained a cd or cartridge. Seeing the way they were arranged made the robot butler’s ‘eyes’ blink for a few seconds.

Before they could comment on them Eugene showed them the next few shelves which held various controllers, all of which had their wires wrapped on them. And the last shelf, which was the largest, contained a few consoles. One look someone could tell that they all had good use and were at least moderately maintained.

Despite that, Eugene could have sworn he was seeing Abdul shake each time he opened a shelf. “And that’s my physical collection. I also have a library of games stored in that computer over there.”

He pointed towards the table at the corner. There was an interesting orange change with cushions sewed on it. They looked comfier than the average chair. On the table was a decently sized monitor with a light up keyboard in a slot below the table. At the bottom was a computer case, with colorful rainbow lights shining inside it through a see-through glass.

“You sure have…. Quite a collection lord Eugene.” Ryuze pointed out.

Eugene nervously laughed while rubbing the back of his head. “Ehehehe yeah… I always had a lot of free time…” He admitted with a bit of sadness to his tone.

Abdul took a look at the computer, ‘eyes’ lighting to show that he was examining it. “Examining. This computer has been hand designed to accommodate high end graphics and frame rates. A must have for the latest Video Game according to this unit’s research. This unit will endeavor to adapt to better understand these Video Games as it interests Master Eugene’s desires”

Eugene perked up when he heard the robot’s response. “O-oh really?! Well feel free to check out any of the games. Just make sure to put everything back once you’re done.”

The butler nodded to the command as he walked up to inspect the collection of video games in the drawer. “Understood. If this unit may excuse itself master Eugene. This unit wishes to take to the time to accustomed to these games.” Abdul asked while bowing to his master.

“S-sure go right ahead, what about you Ryuze? Does this seem interesting to you?” Eugene turned to the black and red Dragonoid, waiting for an answer.

“If you wish for me to lord Eugene I would be comply. But to be honest….” Ryuze was about to stop himself from answering, but seeing his lord’s face it was easy to tell he wanted the Dragonoid to be honest. “…I think I would have a hard time understanding this activity.”

“Fair… I wouldn’t want you to force you to it since it’s my idea to help you relax. Hmmm well the only thing I got left would be this card game I play.”

“Card game? Is this similar to your mana crystal lord Eugene?” Hearing him mention cards intrigued Ryuze.

Seeing an opportunity, Eugene jumped at the chance. “Yeah, now that I think about it. It is similar to the cards that come out of my mana crystal! I could teach you if you want”

After taking a moment to decide the Dragonoid nodded. “If it isn’t too much trouble for you, my lord.”
