Finally, everyone was accounted for as the teacher goes through roll call. Afterwards he began going through some announcements for the day.
“Now, since we had to start classes a week late, we will have to skip introductions. Instead, we’ll be going through your mana evaluation test.” The teacher then began passing each student a gray orb, Eugene remembered having used this before last year.
It was a tool to assess one’s maximum mana capacity, they had them use it every year to monitor any changes to their mana. This year though, it’ll be used to determine how much they have used on the summoning ritual.
Most of them who used it evaluated a high mana capacity which was normal for them, though for some reason Eugene’s always turned out to be a lot lower than average. Of course, there were those who chose to mock him for it.
With the fact he had summoned three familiars, Eugene would have been surprised to have any mana to spare. The teacher instructed them through the process as everyone used their mana orb.
As expected, everyone’s orb had glowed in less intensity than what they showed before. The ritual having sapped their mana capacity to manageable levels.
Except…
One of the students started to freak out. “H-hey what’s going on with that weirdo?”
“Didn’t his barely glow much light last time? That’s like three times what he showed!”
Indeed, when Eugene used the mana orb it instantly glowed brightly! This shouldn’t make sense, no one has ever been known to increase their capacity before! It makes even less sense with the fact that the ritual should have drained a lot more of his mana than the others.
Everyone started to stare at Eugene, making him feel nervous. He couldn’t understand why this was happening, but now that he thought about it something had felt different about him ever since he finished his ritual. Like as if something restricting him had been released. This would be something he would need to figure out later on. For now, the bigger issue is what he would do about his current predicament.
Lucky for him the teacher sensed the discomfort around Eugene so cleared his throat, grabbing everyone’s attention, Eugene letting go of the mana orb.
“I’m sure you all have some questions, but let’s move on to the next step, shall we?”
No one objected and let the teacher continued, taking back everyone’s orbs “Now, mana capacity is all well and good but it’s important to have control over it or you won’t so much as conjure a small ball of magic.”
To demonstrate the teacher pointed a finger up as a small spere of mana began to swirl over it. “Last year, you were taught the basics on mana flow. I would like you all to demonstrate how much you have practice over the year. It doesn’t have to be big now, just enough you can feel comfortable in.”
Everyone followed his directions as they began to conjure a small magic ball in their fingertips, with various levels of success. Some managed to do it easily with various sizes, others could only keep it going for a few seconds before it dispersed. But overall, everyone managed to conjure it at least one, everyone except Eugene….
A look of discomfort was forming across his face as he struggled to conjure his mana, everyone was looking at him expecting something unexpected but seemed rather relieved to see he still had little control over his magic.
“Hah, and here I thought something else crazy was going to happen.”
Some of them even started to snicker to themselves “What’d you expect, a Beastman lover like him would always be a lo-”
Suddenly, a large ball of mana started swirl reaching up in the air above Eugene’s finger. Being the size of Eugene himself, it was hard not to notice it appear before it quickly dispersed into nothing leaving everyone stunned once more.

“W-well good effort Eugene, with enough practice you should be able to have better control soon.” It was clear even the teacher was nervous, but he tried his best to keep a calm demeanor.
“Y-yeah…” Eugene could only sink into his seat, not daring to look at his fellow students who he could only imagine glaring daggers at him.
Meanwhile on the familiar side of the room. Sife, Ryuze, and Abdul each had a strong but unique reaction to what they witnessed. Sife had a look quite impressed, there was excitement in his eyes as he couldn’t help but give a hearty laugh. “This summoner of ours just gets more and more interesting every day! ~”
Abdul on the other hand had his eyes glowing rapidly, as if he was analyzing the events that had unfolded.
As for Ryuze, sweat was forming across his cheek as started to crack a smile, though it was hard to tell if he was smiling in excitement or nervousness. “S-such impressive mana….”
The teacher cleared his throat as he glared at their direction. “Need I remind you familiars that you are not to interrupt your summoners lessons.”
That got them all to quiet down as the teacher continued the lesson, meanwhile Ripley simply stood by as he had his hand over his cheeks, deep in thought.
“Now that we have that out of the way, it’s time we give a basic rundown of everything you have learned. Starting with simple explanation of how our world and others work.”
Many of the students groaned, having already learned this before. But Eugene and Alphonse were paying attention, excited to relearn the lesson.
The teacher took out a chalk as he began to draw on the chalkboard. Forming six circles, five of which seem to surround the sixth larger circle, he then began to draw some connected line around each circle, overall making it look like a five-sided star and ending it by drawing a giant circle over it all. “Now this is a rough design of our universe”
The teacher took out a pointer stick as he directs it around the entire large circle “This is the border of our universe, which bind all our worlds together.”
He then points towards the center circle, “And this as you may recognize, is our world Extoria. It is the center of the universe, and all worlds are connected towards it.”
The pointer then directs to the upper right then lower left sides. “This here is the world of Genesis and this Terminus. Genesis is a heavenly world filled with angels and other holy creatures while Terminus is the opposite. A demonic world filled with devious creatures and demons.”
Ripley squinted his eyes, as he’s forced to keep himself behaving. Probably reacting to him mentioning his world. The teacher continued as he pointed towards the upper left and then lower right sides.
“And these two are the worlds Jiwonda and Shokan no Kuni respectively. Jiwonda is known as a highly futuristic world with technologies more advanced even compared to our world. In the opposite side, Shokan no Kuni seems to encompass a more traditional past land. With a divide between nobles and commoners, this is where the Dragonoid species originate from.”
Abdul’s eyes seem to light up upon his world mentioned meanwhile Ryuze’s eyes seem to twitch upon hearing the name of his world. All the while both showed no other signs of emotion.
The teacher finally pointed at the topmost point as he finished his explanation. “And finally, this is the world of Beastria. It’s quite similar to our world with the only difference being that instead of being filled with humans like us, they are filled with the species of Beastmen instead.”
Sife cracked a smile, reminiscing in memories of his own world.
With his explanation finished the teacher put his pointer away as he examined his students, seeing if any of them were paying attention. Only sighing when he found only two of them invested in his lesson.
Eugene and Alphonse had a look of enjoyment during the whole explanation. Alphonse, having taken the extra step in writing down notes while Eugene had his eyes fully focused on three of the worlds.
“Beastria huh… not just that but Jiwonda and Shokan no Kuni too… they all sound so interesting…. I want to visit them…. Maybe I could get to know what life for them was like in their home world.”
Without thinking Eugene started looking at his familiars’ direction from the corner of his eye. They all seemed to be deep in thought, thinking about the world they came from.
They were then interrupted by the teacher who continued on with his lessons.
“It seemed only a few of you have been paying attention. I know these are basic stuff but it’s important to understand the worlds your familiars come from.”
The looks on many of the students’ faces showed that they didn’t quite agree with that statement. The teacher decided to move on, not wanting to make their familiars uncomfortable.
“Now we’ll get into the important part. I bet many of you have wondered why it is a requirement to participate in the ritual summoning when you turn eighteen. Why everyone at your age and above all are partnered with a familiar.”
Without giving them time to answer the teacher grabbed his pointer tool, turning it to reveal the crystal embedded at the bottom, revealing it as his mana crystal as it started to glow. He began to draw in the air, a light structure showing an image of the human body appears.
He used his mana crystal to point towards a section of the stomach as he described it. “And the reason why, is because of this, our mana core.”
