“Hey Lucas, wake up!”
“...*zzz*”
“Bro, wake up, we're gonna be late!!”
“Huh… what's wrong, I'm trying to sleep, wake me up in the morning.”
“It is the morning, we're going to be late, how can you be so lazy? So wake up, WAKE UP!!”
When I finally understood what I was told, I jumped out of bed, but I landed on my butt.
“Ow, damn, why didn't you wake me up earlier?”
“I'm trying to wake you up for 20 minutes, but you are so lazy, it's like you don't understand what I am saying.”
“First, I'm not lazy all the time, just when I wake up, and second, I was exhausted from the test with your father and from the travel to get here.”
“I don't care, get changed and let's go, I will wait outside.”
After I changed my clothes, we went to see the tailor for the uniform and straight to the classes. Honestly, this whole thing feels so amazing, probably for most of the people here it's not a big of a deal but for us kids and for me in particular, this feels surreal. Being able to learn magic, to be a warrior and save the world, and to be respected and famous for that, it's the best thing ever. Today's first class is ability theory. Technically, we learn how our ability works and how to best use it.
I was somewhat listening throughout the class because I needed to learn every bit of information that I could. At some point, I was lost in my thoughts, and the teacher asked me:
“Mr. Zachary, can you please tell us what you are thinking so deeply about?”
“Huh... sorry teacher, this is my second day here in Zorynyl, and I just remembered how many things happened yesterday.”
“Is that so… Well, that means you already knew what I was teaching, so can you tell us what it is an ability?”
“Well, everyone is born with an ability that is the product of our soul power, so in other words, our ability reflects the thing that we can do the best.”
“It's a good answer, but you are not entirely right. It's true that the ability is a product of our soul power, but it doesn't reflect what we are best at it reflects what the soul's preferred 'environment' is. To put it simply, it's what the soul is good at, not the body, because the soul and the mind are completely different from each other. When you reach the peak of your ability, you will think with your soul and not with your mind. When you grow, you will learn the scientific explanation for this, but for now, we will stick at this.”
I wasn't never good learning theoretycal stuff so I expected not to get it right, but it's good that I understand how the ability works a little better, so that means that I'm good at martial arts and fighting in general. Those years of reading payed of at least.
“Now, next we will learn about the classification of the abilities. I will first give the classification and a little explanation, and then I will explain more about it.
『ABILITY CLASSIFICATION 』
— CREATION TYPE:
(You can create things with your ability.)
— SUPPORT TYPE :
(It is meant to help your teammates, the best example is the healer.)
— FIGHTING TYPE :
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
(Best suited for combat.)
— ELEMENTAL TYPE :
(It's like manipulating an element, but more complex and specific.)
— TRAIT TYPE:
(The most specific type of ability)
“Now that we have the outline, we can begin an explanation. So, Mr. Zachary, from the classification on the whiteboard, where would you classify your ability?”
( Why I am the first asked, she has something with me?)
“Fighting Type 100%, because of the name of my ability and because I was told it's a fighting type.”
“Ok, I will not ask the name of your ability because everyone knows that it is taboo to ask what the name of someone's ability is." Now if someone is eager to know more about this ability type, they are free to raise their hand.”
I learned that every type can have a 'subtype' like the fighting type, which can have only fighting or only body enchantment, but that's pretty rare.
The creation type creates things like the name implies, like arrows, shields, swords, and pretty much everything else; it's not rocket science.
We learned that the support type is crucial in a team when we became hunters because it's imperative to have a healer or a person who can boost your power, but it's also the most vulnerable teammate.
The elemental type is like if an elemental can use elements like fire, an elemental type can use explosions, glass, or ice shards. Sometimes an elemental-type ability can be more useful and powerful than being an elemental.
And the trait type, which is the most interesting but weirder at the same time, For example, your ability as a trait type can be to transform your hands into giant claws, use tentacles, grow wings, or have exceptional hearing or sight, that's why it's said to be the most specific.
After the ability class, we had a class that told us about how hunters formed and our duties when we became hunters, so boring stuff. It's like history, it's in the past, and I am living the moment.
Then we had elemental theory. In this class, we didn't have the whole class present because not all of us are elementals. We had like half or less of the group, like 10 people, but the point is what I learn, not how many are there. After she finished her explanation, the teacher stood in front of the class and, with a joyful voice, said:
“I know that what we are doing here isn't much fun, but the next week I will bring a measuring crystal to see how much soul power each of you has, and that way you will compete with each other to see who is the strongest.” She said this, bringing her hands to her face and making a fist.
“She sounds happier than us about this. To be honest, it's just a measuring crystal, what's the big deal anyway?” I said disinterestedly to William, whispering.
He didn't say anything, not a smart remark, nothing, so I believed he didn't hear me, so I turned to him. When I did so, my only reaction was:
“Huh?” It was some sort of confused wonder filled with boredom or indifference.
*sparkle*
“Why are your eyes sparkling so much? What's the big deal? Go into eclipse phase already. Close those damn headlights.” I said it in a somewhat angry tone, still whispering not to draw the attention of the teacher like in the first class. I can't deal with that kind of attention, my anxiety will go to max level at this pace.
After what I said, William somehow came back from his trance, and after class he began to explain to me that a measuring crystal is a very important instrument for a young kid who wants to become a true hunter.
We had something like that in my world as well but it wasn't very important, it was used to measure your mana level.
"Okay, I understand it's a good tool, but why are you so desperate? Couldn't you make your father buy you one for your birthday or something?”
“It's not that easy, in case you forgot, we are 5 years old, it's not like we lived long enough to do everything we want.”
(Maybe you haven't lived long enough, I had a interesting but friendless life, like the introvert I was, but I decided to change, so here I am.)
“I get it, but you were too entranced by what the teacher said, and after all, you were more interested in the class about hunter history than the ability theory.”
“For what I saw, you weren't interested in anything.”
“I don't care about theory, I just want to fight!”
“We still have two theory classes before the fighting mechanics class.”
“What, nooooo, not more theory, I want something entertaining.”
“Theory is interesting and entertaining, so let's go.”
After he said that, he grabbed me by the shoulder and dragged me to the next hell… I mean class.
