Chapter 11 : Family meeting

Chapter 11 : Family meeting

The next day, we went to meet our new colleagues. After school, of course, because in our group there are people older than us, and to be able to take the class as a whole, we need to take an equivalency exam or something like that. The teachers need to be sure that we are prepared to take better classes.

Apart from the exam, I am completely elated to be able to be promoted in my first week. I heard from our statistician William that we entered the school's history as the only group of five to be promoted in the first week.

He said that we need to be careful and prepared for the difference in difficulty of this group, eh, blah, blah, blah, I'm here to learn, not to beat around the bush until I'm like the rest. If I'm ready for this, I will do it, and if I'm not cut out for it, I will try again, and again, and again, until I'm ready. Nobody can hold me down or make me wait.

Anyway, today we were instructed to go to the tailor, and he gave us new shoulder plates with C engraved on them because we were promoted. They are moving fast. On campus, we could see people from all groups and all ages until age 10, when you need to go for the exam at the Hunters Academy, so our studies will end in 5 years.

But if we are able to promote this fast, at this rate we will be in the special group in no time.

Today, because they need to prepare the exam that we will take a few days later, our only class is the fighting class that is at 6 p.m.

So for today, we were granted a free pass and a carriage to go meet our families and get out, *cough*, not for William, who lives here. I heard that we will be taken to a building when all of our families are so I will be able to meet my friends parents and, of course, see mine as well.

Being able to have a free day and meet my family is heaven. I know what Alpin told me, but even though they are not my real parents, they acted like I was their child with no trace of hard feelings.

After a few preparations, we were ready to go. The carriages were lined up at the front gate, and I finally felt like I was someone important maybe I really am, who knows.

The carriages were white with spirals and flowers made out of gold, they looked like they were made from marble, but it was wood, the colour was so vibrant and immaculate that it looked incredible, the interior couches were covered in red velvet, and the interior walls were plain wood but painted to be smooth and shiny.

Even the horses were white, probably white gives you some attire of a noble, they probably believe white means purity, and they want to give off this vibe wherever they go.

So with that, we set off for our destination. I sincerely thought that the capital would be more exclusivist in a way. We were on the outskirts of the city, but I didn't expect to see farms and, let's say, modest houses. Apart from the farmers properties, the green of the glades combined with the yellow of the wheat and the white of the sheep gave off a feeling of peace and happiness—the usual 'everything is fine, but then again, when I look back and I see the walls surrounding the city, I stand on my toes, waiting for every danger lurking out there. I always admit that I know nothing about this world, and I don't know what I will face in the future, but I'm trying to take everything step by step.

The fields filled with grass slowly started to fade away as we entered the residential district, where the houses were much better and the city looked like a city. Houses made out of bricks, wood, and other materials; people going from left to right and right to left wearing clothing of all kinds. Some were wearing suits, some shirts, some dresses, and some pants. Everyone was concerned about their own problems. We also saw soldiers, hunters, and explorers being encouraged by people as they came back from missions.

As we passed the residential districts, we entered the royal district, where all the houses were in a contest of beauty and whealth. All houses were built from the best materials, and above their entrances were the crests of their families. For a noble house, the family crest is their identity; a noble always introduces himself with his house name, not the kingdom they are in.

It was a bit strange that we went straight to the royal district, but apparently the place we need to go is here. The only good thing is that the people aren't glued to the carriage like in the other districts, so I'm feeling a bit comfortable.

I'm not good with crowds, but I will get used to it if I'm going to become a hunter.

The carriage stopped in front of a big house. When I got out of the carriage and looked at the statues placed on the sides of the stairs, I felt small and unimportant. Seeing the statues of those people in armour, I got goosebumps. If the statues were this imposing, I'm curious how they were in flesh and bones. As I walked up the stairs, the shield of one of the statues blocked the sun and left me in a penumbra, making me feel that sensation again.

The building where we were brought was obviously made out of white marble, the trend in this world.

When the door opened, a big light blinded me for a second, and then I saw a big, bearded, smiling face—my dad. I remained silent for a second, unable to say anything.

"Hmmm, so you forgot your dear father already? That's not good." My dad said this while laughing and moving his finger in disapproval.

Then, before I could respond, my mom came over and started squeezing me in what was supposed to be an embrace.

"We missed you so much, we heard that you were promoted and you are doing very well, but we were still worried." said my mom while crying.

"Yes, we heard that you were the first to be promoted this fast, and on top of that, we are in this fancy place, the benefits are amazing, ha ha ha!"

My mom punched my dad in the stomach, saying to not think about the material part of things; well, it was a joke after all, and then we entered the house. It was a truly superb house, everything was made of wood, it was so bright and clean, surely it was a lot of work to clean this place but maybe it was already clean.

I'm not sure yet what the purpose of this building was, but for now it's a celebration house.

My friends were also with their families, and then we started telling them everything that had happened until now.

Everyone, in their own way, started explaining, some of us even wanted to show what happened. Everything was filled with laughter and happiness. I really wish to have more moments like this, but life doesn't give you what you want.

After an hour or so, we had a special guest at the party.

"Welcome everyone. I hope you are enjoying the party to its fullest." said Henry Blazering as he entered the room with a smile on his face and holding a glass of champagne."

"Of course, this is incredible as it is, we even couldn't ask for this much." said Max's mother.

"Please, this is even too little in comparison to what these five children did."

Then from behind Henry appeared William, a little shy and unable to say anything.

In that moment, me, Max, Helen, and Riley went to William and jumped on him.

"So you are being sneaky, huh, you couldn't tell your roommate about this."

"I didn't know myself, so I didn't have anything to say."

"No, no, that's not good, he needs punishment." Helen said, turning his head from side to side.

So we grabbed him, took him to the sofa, and began beating him with pillows.

"Kids, stop. This is not nice." said my mom, surprised by what happened.

"Oh my, I didn't expect that, ha ha ha. There's no problem, leave the kids play, their happiness is the most important thing."

After a few more hours, during which we discussed either with our parents or between ourselves, we took the carriage back to the school. My mom embraced me hard and started crying again as she told me to be safe, to learn, and not to get into any fights, while my dad patted me on the head and told me to show them who his son is.

After we got back to the school, we still had a couple of hours before the class, so I don't know about the others, but I took a shower and got something to eat because starvation is my biggest enemy. Of course, after the morning lazyness, who is the final boss.

When the time came, we got to the fighting grounds, where we met our new instructor, Frederic, and the other classmates, who looked at us like wolves at their prey.

"Welcome, to group C's fighting class!"
