Chapter 36. Plan
"Garry, have you met the other crafters?"
"I did. I explained what had to be done in the coming days, but we need a basic idea of what the city should look like. How should the areas be distributed."
I put some thought into it. This was going to be the only chance to decide what the city was going to look like, no changes after this.
"I, want the city to be divided into two parts. The inner city and the outer city.
The inner city will have five big buildings, one towards each direction and the fifth one in the center. The outer city will be divided into 4 four parts lining with the four buildings in the inner city.
A factory, crafting, market area. A residential area. A medical and institutional area. An area containing inns and restaurants. A circular city, that is the image I have in my mind."
"That is somewhat complicated but not something we cannot handle. We won't be able to extend the inner city once we start building the outer one, is that okay?"
"Yeah, expected that." Expanding the inner city will need demolition of the outer city, but that could happen in the future if ever needed.
"What will the four buildings be used for?" Garry asked, "We could then perhaps design it according to the needs."
"Well, the institutional area will have a building for the temple, which if the church needs could use as a branch. The market area will have an auction building, and again if needed can be used by the Union.
The Inn area will be used by the guild and the building will be used as an adventures hall for putting up commissions and paid work. The one with the residential area will have the building for the Law Enforcement department.
And the main building in the center will be the town hall, where the leader lives and the place where he will have his meetings."
From my perspective, the Union, the Church, and the Guild should be neutral when it comes to the power struggle. Their member would not overlap unless they had two classes, and their branches could be in any city.
The cities which would have their main branches would be neutral zones, where none of the other three, the Syndicate, the Council, and Home will be able to rule. That was why these three were given main buildings of their own.
If not, we could repurpose them later.
"The Law Enforcement Department?" Garry said with confusion, "Like a police?"
"Yeah, the department that I will manage."
"Huh? The who will be the leader, I thought that was you."
"I doubt the people would accept me as their leader," I looked around and no one dared to look me in the eye, "Especially after what happened this morning."
"They would still listen to you," Garry said not understanding the reason why I was doing so.
"When a king is a person that people are scared of, it gives them a righteous reason to betray and revolt. This makes the King a bad guy, but if the King was charismatic, kind, and loving you are not left with a reason to revolt. Now if someone betrays he is the bad guy.
The public will only see what you show them, it doesn't matter if you are the bad guy or the good guy. At the end of the day, the citizen will support you for who they know you are."
"I see. We'll make the blueprint and inform you after that is done, it might take a week to get that all done." Garry said after thinking and calculating some stuff.
"We have a month, after that we won't have enough place to house people that come in."
"We could move to the forest and put down enough tents for everyone. Doing that will at most take one day."
"If it comes to that." That will be a nice alternative because we had enough food now and we could even try growing our own in the forest after clearing some land.
Garry said his goodbyes and rushed to the other craftsmen. This was probably his biggest project ever and that meant more levels and skill levels for him. How could he not be excited?
"This is the first time we are talking." I sat on a chair and said to the chained before me.
"I hoped it would be on friendlier terms."
"I don't. Just tell me what the Syndicate has planned for the gathering phase, enough so that I stay away from it. Not that you know anything important, I doubt you would be informed of such intel."
"Straight forward arent you," said with a smirk. "But why should I? This betrayal has a high cost, and I don't think you can afford that."
"Afford?" I started laughing. "Listen here you little shit, this isn't a negotiation. You give me the information and you get to live, as simple as that, and if you don't, you die."
I said after pulling him closer by the collar. But apparently, he didn't believe me, "Like you have the balls!" He said and spat on my face.
"I thought so," I wiped the spit and picked up a wooden box that was kept beside my chair. After opening it, I kept the box right in front of him. He looked inside and his face paled.
"What.... do you want to know."
"Now we are talking, aren't we?"
"We don't have much planned out, to be honest, and if there is I do not have the authority to know. We were told to gather food and capture people. The ones that were either an asset or a threat.
Then set up a camp and wait until they give us a signal for further instructions." he narrated everything he knew.
"How will they give you these instructions?" As far as I knew no proper way of communication should have been established that could reach all over the world.
"I have no idea, but if I had to guess it would be using the insignia that we were given. That is the only material thing the organization has given us."
"Do you know how they got this? or who made it?"
"Only the ones at the top do."
I nodded. "See, it wasn't that hard. Now you can finally rest."
"Really, you will let me go?" He had a hopeful look on face his face.
"Yep, you can rest forever." Thorn formed in my hand and pierced his heart. "No! You said I get to.... live." Life left his yes as he finished his sentence.
*Why did you break your word?*
