(Levian’s View)
Levian sneaked around the battlefield, taking out stronger monsters left and right. He had a mission to do, and today was the day he was at a crossroads of change. Was he going to take this chance to change the world? Yes. He would and would never look back at his decisions.
He walked a very bloody path, taking out old enemies and new ones, changing the course of history a step at a time. Activating the dungeons, killing the bad apples, working with the dark society, taking over the group, and becoming a leader. So many things that he didn’t tell Snow. He didn’t believe he needed to.
Not only that, he had personally killed a Demon Prince, taking its place. From his previous life, he had never had a chance to even get such a quest, but when he heard Dairen having the main storyline quest for himself, an ugly twist of jealousy skewered his heart.
Everything that he wanted in his past life, Dairen had it effortlessly.
Why? How was it possible? What was different from Darien to himself? He should have been the Hero and the one next to Snow as they have been partners in the last life. But, instead, the bubbling past brought back emotions that he stuffed away in the corner of his heart.
It was twisting like an ugly knot, growing slowly the more he saw Dairen and Snow together.
Levian snorted, shaking his head and wiping the blood off his face.
He had to bring back his chaotic thoughts that dwelled in his heart and mind, remembering why he had thrown away many things in the past. From his guild position to his loved ones to save the world. But not to be a failure of a person who had lost the last war. This was what he promised himself when he had woken up from his second life. He wouldn’t repeat this failure a second time. Yet, he knew what he needed to do.
A mistake he won’t repeat.
His eyes became bloody, his mind sharpened as he sped through the monsters, disappearing and reappearing like the ghost.
It was then that he had felt the appearance of the Demon King. The virtual message that popped up rang in his ears as the quest screen appeared before him.
Chain Quest: Kill and Replace the Demon King. Your destiny awaits. (Part VI)
Quest Level: SS
Failure: Death
Quest: Kill five of the nine demon princes to obtain most of the demon prince’s power.
Kill the Demon King
Reward: Become the Demon King and a legendary item.
Info:
The demon King’s appearance has put a dangerous spin on your world. If the demon king destroys the city, he will have access to exit out of the dungeon. Prevent him from destroying the sacred tree and stop him from leaving the dungeon. Take the crown and control the fate of the world.
Levian read it once more. He had already accomplished killing five of the nine demon princes, taking the majority of the demon power. However, he knew that Dairen wouldn’t outperform him or be on the same level as him in power. He had made sure of that.
Waving his hand, he pushed away the quest log. It has taken him through tooth and nail to get through this point of the quest. But, even still, he didn’t tell anyone that he had this quest. He had done things that no normal humans could stomach. But, it was necessary, and he knew this route would be demanding the second time he came back to life.
Stolen story; please report.
A shockwave of energy rippled through the field, telling Levian that the first Sacred Tree was destroyed. Then, just like his past life, the same thing happened.
Nothing has changed.
Even Snow bounding off to grab the Black Box was still the same, just that this time it was Dairen who took his spot.
It was fine; sending the second Demon Prince candidate away was better. This was the chance that he was waiting for.
He had diligently watched the fight between the three: Mr. Rogers, Falcon, and Mr. Jay. Even Mike was ready to go in and join, but the constant barrage of monster waves was keeping him in check. Just like the rest of the others.
The Demon King walked forward indifferently. The smoke around him cleared as he walked straight toward the wall. Then, he raised his hand up, he shot a powerful blast of energy that left a giant hole.
Mr. Jay, Mr. Rogers, and Falcon attacked all at once, trying to keep him from entering.
Mr. Jay was thrown across the city straight into the building as the Demon King shot him out of the air. Then, another magical energy shot forward, Falcon was completely decimated as his mechanical contraptions were destroyed to pieces.
Only Mr. Rogers was breathing heavily, leaning against the wall. The fight took a heavy toll on him, making it impossible to stand. His red eyes stared at the Demon King with anger, but as he was trying to pick himself up to continue to fight again, a blast of energy smashed into Mr. Rogers, knocking him out.
Levian followed, fighting his way through the group of monsters, swarming to get in. He jumped, slashed, and even sent powerful waves of energy, slicing them in half.
While the Demon King killed soldiers left and right from encroaching upon him.
Neither the hunters nor the Players could get close without getting injured. Even though they were all strong, they were still no match for the Demon King.
From Levi’s guess, he expected at least four or five players, who were the strongest, would be able to hold themselves against the Demon King for a very brief moment. Plus, Snow wasn’t here to give them the much-needed buff.
On the bright side, the spells of resurrections and magic that Snow had left behind for the priest helped immensely bring back the dead.
The constant fight was a ceaseless pool of experience points to grow stronger and stronger, but the mental exhaustion from the ongoing battle wasn’t easy.
It took a toll on everyone, especially the citizens of the city.
There was a giant hole in place on the wall, an ugly reeling of hopelessness set in.
Screams of people could be heard as they were slain by monsters that had spilled into the city.
Death was apparent everywhere he went.
Houses and buildings were broken and on fire. Animals ran around in terror but were slain by the monsters that caught them. Magic flew all around as the battle between the two forces was laid out on the streets. Each trying to overtake one another. Citizens of the city panicked as they were trampled by monsters and humans alike. They were torn to shreds by demons or eaten alive on the spot everywhere Levian looked.
It was a complete mess.
Still, Levian pushed forward, forgetting about the cry for help that resounded in his ears. In the past, he would jump into any fight, trying to save as many people as he could. But not today. He needed to keep his strength and magic.
Levian knew where the Demon King had headed too: the only sacred tree in the center of the city.
If the tree fell, it was the end of the city’s life.
Quickly, Levian jumped onto the building, rushing toward his destination. Time was ticking, and the scream was getting louder.
His heart pounded the closer he got.
Just thinking about the fight against the Demon King again had enthralled him. He was on the sideline pushing the demon army back in his previous life, while Mike was the one in the forefront against the demon king. But, even with Mike against the Demon King, he did not succeed.
Instead, death followed Mike as he was slain in this dungeon.
Almost half of the Hunters and Players were utterly decimated in the first life. Now, he noticed that most of them were holding themselves up against the Demon King’s army a bit better than before.
Even though Mr. Jay, Falcon, and Mr. Rogers had been battered and momentarily put down, they were as resistant as a cockroach. He had a feeling that when they woke up, they would still drag their tattered bodies over to fight once again.
Levian felt dark energy coursing through his body, the slain demon prince’s having given him the much-needed boost in energy.
Not only that, he had personally called out the thirteen mighty underworld Hunters, hidden in the Dark Society that he had taken over. Giving them a task to help out in the city, but at the same time be ready when he succeeds. There were too many things to do and so little time.
Things that were supposed to happen two years in the future were happening now. Entering into this dungeon had sped up by a couple of years. The number of high-level players was still a lot more shorthanded.
Would they be able to survive through this? Probably not, but there was nothing he could do but slay the demon king.
His eyes focused, Levian climbed up onto the building, pulling himself up on the roof. The streets were crowded with monsters, and he didn't want to tangle with them. So instead, he raced across the rooftop.
A burning desire to change the fate of the world was close by, and he was going to take the chance given to him.
He was ready to face the Demon King again. But, this time, he will be the one to slay the Demon King and take the crown.
Nobody was going to stop him.
He will make sure of that.
