11. Nanny Dairen

Days slowly passed by. Snow felt like being stuck in her bed was torture. If it wasn't for her injury, she wouldn't be lying around. Luckily, Dairen helped her out to the balcony, when she asked for it, but any other strenuous activities, she wouldn't be able to last for an hour without getting extremely tired.

Strangely, she also noticed a few things about Dairen during her time with him. He would disappear and reappear in the most unusual times, making her wonder where he went.

When she confronted him, he brought up a strange explanation of having log in points from this world to his, and her home was one of those points. She didn't ask any further as the medicine put her to sleep.

"Nanny, Dairen." Snow smirked coyly as he called out to him. It was a nickname she has started to say as he was the one personally taking care of her.

"I'm not a nanny." Dairen rolled his eyes as he walked into the door. He saw her up and making her bed. "You seem fully functional."

"Fully is a matter of opinion, but I'm quite sure I'm ninety percent recovered. Just need a few more days, and I'll be all good." With a last tug of her blanket, her bed was made. She then turned around and smiled, which caught Dairen off guard.

Dairen wasn't sure how he should feel when Snow smiled. It dazed him all the time, but two out of every three smiles were something he knew first hand that it had much more uncomfortable meaning behind it.

The last smile made his skin crawl, telling him he needed to run, or he will get his skin flayed. The small practical joke he played on Snow annoyed her, and she sent three magical arrows, chasing after him. He felt like he saw his life flash before his eyes when that happened.

Unsure what to say, he quickly snapped out of his daze.

"Anyways, for all the help you have done, how would you like me to repay you?" Snow was serious about what she had said. Mainly because he took the time to help her that it warmed her heart, she was willing to return that favor by two folds.

"Don't worry about it." Dairen waved his hands; he wasn't the type to ask something in return and just went with the flow.

"No. There is something you need or want. Money isn't much of a problem." This was the truth; she had an astronomical amount of money squirreled away gold, and if converted, it would be quite a large sum that she could live without much of a problem for one lifetime.

"I don't need anything. Really." He once again denied any material gains.

"There has to be something….." Then it hit her. "You said you're staying for a bit, right?"

"Yea…"

"If you got nowhere to go, you can stay until you get your place. I can convert the living room for you. Free of charge." For the past week, Dairen had shown her kindness and even went as far as taking care of her. She knew he was a stranger, an Alien, which she also believed it would be dangerous if he left her sight. This was for his good, that's what she repeated to herself over

and over again.

Dairen thought over what she had offered. He didn't think too long before he spoke. "Sure." He gave her a pleasant smile. "This way, I can know more about the magical world." His hidden thoughts surfaced, throwing Snow off guard.

Snow crossed her arms. "You almost died. You still didn't learn your lesson?"

Dairen snorted. "Even still, I want to know."

"Like I said, it's dangerous, but it is still your choice. I can't be there when things go south, you know."

"I fully understand." Dairen nodded. "When I leave, I know what I'll be fully dealing with. I would like to arm myself when such time comes."

Snow sighed, wrinkling her eyebrows. Not long after, Snow got a chime from her phone, initiating a text message. She went over, unlocking her phone with a swipe.

The message was from an unknown number that she didn't recognize. It read:

Come to Cantansoa tonight at 10 PM. Bring the ALIEN.

Wondering who could have her number, she flipped through her memories but couldn't think of a single person.

"Is everything alright?" Dairen came from behind, startling her. She quickly dropped her phone to her side and nonchalantly replied.

"Yea. Tonight, I need to take you somewhere to meet someone."

"Who? And what time? I need to go somewhere for the day."

"The Dealer. At Cantansoa. 10 pm."

"The Dealer?"

"That's what people call him, but I believe he is the devil. Plus, where do you need to go?"

"Work." Dairen smiled excitedly. "While you were asleep, I was able to find a job. Send me a text message, and I'll meet you there."

"Wait, you got a phone?"

"Yea. three days ago." Dairen pulled out his phone that was in his back pocket. It was the newest model that Salico had made. "Give me your phone, and I'll give you my phone number." He asked, motioning her.

Without much of a thought, she gave him her phone. Dairen quickly inputted his number and pressed send.

"There you go." He replied. "I'll see you later tonight." He made his way over towards the door, where he started to put on his shoes.

Snow felt a bit odd, seeing him off. It was like they were newly wedded, and she saw off her husband, which made her skin crawl.

"Don't forget. 10 PM sharp."

"Okay." With a click of the door, Dairen opened and left.

Snow was alone in her home, feeling a bit empty. The one week that he was here, his chatter kept her company. Still, she quickly washed such thoughts and emotions behind, knowing full well that it was trivial.

She walked over towards her kitchen stool and sat. Bringing her phone out in front of her, she started to surf through the magical community webpage.

Ordinary people couldn't find the webpage, mostly because it was not easy to surf through the protective magical barriers and illusion that their web page consists of. If someone did stumble onto it, the most they would find is a sock store selling different designs. Strangely enough, she heard that Sleepers would continually come back to the site just to buy a few pairs of designer socks.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

There wasn't much to look through as she surfed. The typical day of unrest of increasing fluctuations of Sleeper humans, creating more dark spots for dark spirits to thrive in, was the number one highlighted news. Upon reading, she saw three top areas written in bold letters: Sacramentona, NewYark, and Atlantis.

The last city that she read made her frown. Now that she thought about it, she did notice a massive influx of dark energy spots, and it wasn't just her random thought that has been bothering her recently. To see it in the newspaper, she knew she didn't imagine things. She dislikes going around the infected area, mostly the heavily densely populated area. She knew such an area attracted trouble.

Dark Energy Rising

March 21, 2130

Thirty Two Baker Street has been quickly increasing in dark energy. Since the first spotting of the area in 1987, the tainted land has expanded to 150 miles. A 50% increase in death tolls has been recorded since last year in the area. It is expected to rise another 5% by the end of this year.

Constant purifications are in progress, but the priest that has been blessing the area. Oddly enough, people have been attacked by dark spirits or killed. The recent priest, Pastor John M. Hayes that had died was three days ago, inside his apartment, who has been living around the area. Pastor John has been one of the significant forces in cleaning the area. But the recent murder, six days ago, has caused unrest.

Security has increased around the area as a new Priest; Pastor Liliam Larry arrives today to do a blessing. Baker Street energy levels had decreased since her blessing, helping to control the outburst of negative and dark energy that has pooled around the area. Today, pastor Liliam and Pastor Kyle Davidson will arrive again to do another full cleaning, blessing the area for any possible lingering dark energy that has accumulated.

Such a high level of dark energy hasn't been seen in over 200 years. Some people speculate the demons are proliferating in the hopes of coming back to Earth. Others think it's just a natural phenomenon that happens almost every 50 years or even sooner, depending on how much dark energy congregates in one area. One does not know, which is the truth, but it is essential to be ready for dark times to arise possibly. It has been known that if a gateway to hell is opened, destruction ensures.

Such an event has happened before, when a Grand Duke Demon had escaped from the gates and on caused a 7.9 magnitude earthquake in San Fran, California, in 1906, causing 3,000 deaths in one day. There has been another deadly attack on March 11, 2011, Tonaku Earthquake and Tsunami. The latest report confirms 15, 895 deaths, 6,156 injured, and 2, 539 missing.

Hells gate opening needs, heavy casualties to open, and natural disasters are the perfect cover-up for such things. Most of these things happen around densely populations, but there have been instances where it is not such a case. There have been mass suicides to open such gates as well, but such situations cause smaller doors to open.

The Magical Police has been issued out through the community to watch for any suspicious activities.

Snow flipped through the news some more and stopped.

Rosemary of Jamison has been Stolen.

Created in 1920 by the witch, Jenny S. Jenkins has been stolen from the Natural Museum of Witch Arts and Craft. It is a wooden beaded bracelet with the pentacle at the center of each bead. Such items are considered a cursed thing, known to be used to kill or curse the beholder. Any females, who are coupled, will result in a twelve-day curse that eventually lead to death. Most people have only gone past seven days before the rosemary is cast out or brought back to the Natural Museum. If you or anyone find this object, it must be brought to attention as quickly as possible.

Snow thought over what she had read, putting aside her phone. It wasn't often that such things happened, especially someone brave enough to break into a museum to steal a cursed item.

Throughout the day, she relaxed and enjoyed the peace. Popping in a DVD, she watched the latest movie, eating popcorn and drinking Orange Soda until evening. It was one of those days where she didn't want to do anything but laze around.

While watching her 3rd movie, her phone as it started to ring. She reached over, pausing the TV, to see who it was and noticed that it was Mr. Jay.

"Hello?" Snow spoke first, wondering why he had called.

"Snow." Mr. Jay's voice had a slightly strange fluctuations to it, causing her to wonder what was going on. This wasn't like Mr. Jay to sound...scared.

"Mr. Jay?" She tilted her head, pulling back a strand of her. "Are you okay?"

"No time to explain. I need you to get to Cantansoa quickly." He hissed in a low voice, catching Snow off guard. The moment he finished what he was saying, the phone cuts off, leaving Snow with more confusion. She stared at her phone, unsure of the sudden strange call from Mr. Jay. She dialed back, trying to see if she could get connected. It rung for a moment, eventually connecting.

"Mr. Jay? What do you mean….."

A loud grunting like sound was heard, followed by something smashing and a scream. Snow eyes became wide; her hand clasped tightly to the phone as she tried to understand everything that was going on. Few more tussles and movement could be heard, followed by silence.

Just when Snow was to call out to Mr. Jay, she listened to a familiar tune, freezing her. Her mind becomes blank as she shuddered, knowing full well the same familiar song that she had been dreaming about for months now. If she could just forget about it, she would, but whoever or whatever was on the other end of the phone wouldn't let her.

"Sweet…..Sweet lullaby rock me to sleep…." Humming like sound could be heard followed by a low deep beat that reverberated deeply in Snow's soul. The hair on the back of her arm raised as she got goosebumps. "Let me hear your whispers as you fall into sleep…"

Humming gently, but creepily, he disappeared like the wind, leaving behind a soft clip-clopping sound of the footsteps as the person hummed.

Snow hand trembled, afraid. How? Her mind was blank, unable to figure out what was going on the other side of the phone. She had a sickening feeling that something terrible had happened with Mr. Jay. This feeling was an ugly itch that wouldn't go away, but a definite sense that Mr. Jay was either dead or wounded.

Trembling, her thumb pressed end, disconnecting.

"That's not possible…" Her voice became smaller, eyes wider, looking at the phone in her hand. The chances of the same person ending up where she was going was meager, almost impossible. What was even more shocking was that she had a horrible feeling that it was the same man that murder, making her not want to head straight towards danger.

Quickly, she dialed 111, the magical police force, but stopped. She didn't want to be questioned or get herself logged, giving away her name and address. Everything would be magically recorded and even publicly identified, making it impossible for her to stay anonymous.

Still, Mr. Jay was in trouble. Quickly, she dialed the force. It didn't take long for her to give all the information. It was a chance to take.

She dialed her best friend, Heather. With a bite of her lips, she anxiously waited for her to pick up. It took a bit of time, but Heather eventually answered.

"Snow? What's up?" Heather replied in a chirpy tone. "Are you doing well?"

"Heather," said Snow in a hurry.

"Yea?"

"We need to go to Cantanosa right now." Snow stated firmly, she was already running around her house looking for her keys, and finally putting on her shoes.

"Wait. What? Now?" Heather asked, confused. "We got another 4 hours left."

"You got to believe me, something bad happened to Mr. Jay."

Turning the doorknob to the front door, she exited.

"What do you mean….?"

"Let me get in my car." She half ran towards her car door, fumbling for her car keys, she quickly enter, stubbing her knee onto the side door. With a yelp, she cried out in pain.

"Snow?! Are you okay?"

"Y….yea." She groaned, swearing. The rude awakening of pain, brought tears to her eyes, making her

jolt back to her calm state.

"What happened?"

"Knee banged on the side of the car." Her words were choppy as she gritted her teeth. She hated how at times, she would hurt herself so easily. With a grunt, she pulled herself in and started the car.

"Ah, you got me worried there for a second. I thought something awful happened, but it's your usual clumsily self."

"I'm not that clumsy."

"Yes, you are. Don't you remember the time when you trip over yourself like every ten minutes because you couldn't stop staring at a hot guy?" Snow heard Heather car door slam, telling her that she was heading out.

"Hey, that's beside the point." Snow left the garage and on her way to Canatonsa. "Anyways, that's not important. Right now, Mr. Jay is either dead or hurt. I'll meet you at Canatonsa in like 30 minutes."

"Wait? What happened to Mr. Jay?"

"I'm not sure, but I was on the other end of it and….and heard him fighting with someone." Silenced followed after, bringing in an unsettling feeling. "We need to get there now. He called me before the incident happened."

"Mr. Jay called you?"

"Yea. He wanted me to come today, but he hang up so quickly that I didn't get to ask anything else."

"That's unlike him….."

"Yea, that's the weird part, which confuses me."

"What about the magical police?"

"I called them."

"Strange…." Heather wasn't too convinced in what Snow had to say, but she didn't push her for an answer. "Either way, I'll meet you at Cantansoa in thirty minutes."

"Okay."

"Don't get into a car accident."

"Yes, mom." Snow jokingly stated.

"Good, dear." Heather quickly replied with a chuckle.

Snow continued driving as the phone clicked off. Her hands clenched tightly on the wheel as she stared into the distance.
