Chapter 70: Questions Best Left Unasked

Chapter 70: Questions Best Left Unasked

You tell Yasha to gather her wargear while you strap your own on. You leave your pulse pistol sitting in its case and holster your foehammer instead. No need to draw attention to it before Jace looks into putting a suitably Imperial appearance on it.

You and Yasha enter the Main Plasma Drive Room in time to see the backs of Sargent Danus and his team as they exit, a large black casket humming along between two of the honor-marked Marines. You nod farewell in passing, and proceed onwards to find Jace and the Dark Angel Techmarine conversing in the squealing chitter of enginseers everywhere. You can't make heads nor tails of it, but you get the feeling that a great deal of information is being exchanged very quickly.

You get the urge to start asking questions as to what relics Sargent Danus is taking with him. But as you think it over, you decide for once in your life to leave well enough alone. Jace will have a log of what was taken or disturbed, and asking questions where the Dark Angels can hear them is likely to draw their ire. Given that they are reluctant to work with the Inquisition, and Rubicon's comment about them probably shooting at other Imperial forces in the past, you deduce that that ire is likely to be expressed as incoming bolter rounds.

So instead you wait for Jace and the Techmarine to notice you. "Lord Pyrus is headed for the Main Computer Core, as Kamas is likely to put in an appearance there in the near future. Any luck in rigging up a stasis trap of some sort?"

If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Jace and the Techmarine both shake their heads. Jace speaks first, "I believe that I might be able to construct a stasis storage unit, but nothing deployable in the field. And doing even that would take materials that I do not possess."

"That's a no then. Techmarine, can you or your Chapter be of any further assistance in this matter? Or do I overstep my limits in this?"

The Techmarine throws back his head, and you get the impression that he is laughing inside his helmet. "Sargent Danus would say that you are overstepping your bounds, but such an honest question deserves an honest answer. Do not expect aid from the Dark Angels on any but their own terms. They only brought me along on this expedition to oversee the stasis casket, and they did not even tell me why. Now I must depart, leaving only a wish for good fortune in your future endeavors."

You give a formal bow to the Techmarine. "Then go in honor, Techmarine. May the Emperor guide your path and your weapons."

"And yourself Master Von Sebastion. Now I must depart." The Techmarine walks off down the corridor after Sargent Danus, vanishing around a corner.

You let out a sigh. "Ok, we don't have an available stasis trap. So how do we fight a being that can bend reality?"

Yasha cocks an eyebrow at you. "With one of our own of course. Lord Pyrus is probably up to the task..."

Jace nods. "But he is going to need backup, to keep Kamas occupied if nothing else."
